it wasn't a crossbow was it? looked like a pump action rifle to me.

Well, it fired some kind of bolts. How it was propelled is beyond me. It looked like some kind of rifle / shotgun, but it fired stakes. If only it fired steaks! I'd certainly have to get me one.

This was quite an interesting episode.

The kids were annoying. Little girl can't act.

There was something very off-kilter about that scene in the railway tunnel, where Samwise comes up behind them.

Eichorst was described as being "about 45 years old". Umm, no. Try 55.

That scene with drunken Eichorst taking a wiz seemed all a bit homo-erotic. Then I realised it was just there to show us that Eichorst still had his wedding tackle at that point.

Was that Ron Perlman as the assassin-not-quite-rescuer at the end?

Watched the first two episodes. Little too dark for me and the drama is getting to me. Will give another two episodes a chance. There better be some ass kicking.

face palm at the vampire swat team and the dumb cab driver
Ya, what type of person starts asking what is going on, "what is?" as some tentacle tongue thing is on the window.

No it's most like gas, NOW.

It was kinda interesting to see how the infected guy went and found a bat (or bar) to break the glass. It's weird with these varying infected types. You have some that seem to be mindless (but can use tools?), the one bad German guy (can he walk in sunlight? I don't think so..?), the ancient evil guy and now these hunters.

Yeah, the whole "sunlight" thing seems inconsistent. I haven't read the books, but it seems that only major direct sunlight hurts them...? They've shown a lot of them in basements/sheds, but the secretary of whatever/mom in the house was obviously fine just walking around in the house during the day until she put her hand in direct sunlight. Same thing with the solar eclipse (which I'm not sure why they included it). There was some light, but not direct sunlight.

In fact, I thought it was really dumb how they made a deal about the eclipse and all it did was allow some newly infected to come out during the day. BUT, since they seem pretty brainless, wouldn't the eclipse have killed them? Like even if they had an internal clock for the day/night cycle, a solar eclipse goes pretty fast. They would have been trapped in the direct sunlight because the moon's shadow receded so quickly.

[Strigoi] "Good, the sun has gone down; time to feed!"
[Eclipse ends]
[Strigoi] "I'm melting! I'm melting...what a world"

Maybe the longer you're infected, the more capable you are of intelligence? The German guy has been infected since shortly after WWII; that might be why he can talk/reason/etc. Possibly the same with the vampire hunting vampires? The newly infected seem to only think about feeding/spreading the worms. Or there might be Strigoi classes: Master, apprentice, worker, etc.

go look at the clip again, it has some type of pulley arrangement that goes the length of the barrel. looks like a cyberpunked crossbow as it fired stake projectiles.

I just realized del Toro basically used his vampire from Blade 2.

ecc_reaper_bust_3.jpg

Whats interesting is that vampire was the attempt at making a daywalker, and they fed on vampires. Now in The Strain there is apparently a similar group of vampires walking around during the day killing infected (vamps). Maybe he should have revived the Blade TV series.

Surprise twist. Wesley Snipes guest stars as Blade leading his team of daywalkers to contain the Strain. :D

Well, at least it is moving things a bit tonight...
and by that, I mean they got away in the bread truck...

PSA: Just remember kids, "that is why I carry rebar!"

BTW, how do they explain the
CC authorization for the gas pump ?

Freaking epic. They're like vampire zombies. And they can climb shit quick too. LOL I'm glad I gave this show a chance. The ass kicking is just starting. I figured this episode would explain the vampire SWAT team, but this show was dedicated to escaping a gas station.

I was also wondering how he got CC authorization on that gas pump.

I go back and forth on this show, sometimes it's fun other times it's silly. The acting is pretty hit or miss as well.

Last nights episode was pretty bad imo - the whole thing pretty much takes place in that gas station store. It felt pretty slow to me and like not much progressed.

I think that is most likely some kind of gas chamber (or possibly a spring) to be able to fire bolts. (I mean below the pulley)

On a per with Extant. Sci Fi being a favorite, I'll watch it and Extant unless it (they) get too convoluted. IMO Galactica was a much better show, better acted better plot, though on the dark side, and that got cancelled! Unless a blockbuster hit, I think some of these shows should be conceived as mini series, rather than a four/five plus year expected run. The Dome is good, but may be outliving it's plot twists. Of course there is always The Walking Dead, which is pretty compelling, due to characterization and acting. Person of Interest another well done sci fi series...interested to see where that ends up.
One of the best new series (IMO) is Tyrant, not sci fi, but overall an excellent show with good acting and an original plot.
Anyway, yes I will watch the Strain, mainly because I'm a sci fi addict.

After everything they've seen they're still skeptical? I find that more annoying than anything.

Yeah, the CDC guys questioning the old man gets old, especially when he's never wrong. At least the exterminator trusts his eyes, and within 10 min of meeting the old man just outright asks him wtf are they and how do you kill them.

Since you're a scifi fan, have you checked out Almost Human? Sadly it was cancelled which is no big surprise considering the network (Fox).

Reminds me of the gun in the game F.E.A.R. That gun would tack you to the wall. LOL

Holy crap, ENOUGH with the stupid by standers. What are you doing, uh I'm going to run. It's getting to the point of being a distraction on how stupid anyone but the main characters are. (And even the chick is pissing me off, what have we become, forgive me etc ugh).

Speaking of stupid stuff, why wouldn't they give a full body checkup to see how many worms there are... they are the CDC, so, they know they need to check everything, not just the face...

And they keep saying 'that is not possible!', 'forgive me!', and other stupid things.
I am wondering if the book version of this also have these idiotic people running around saying stupid crap ?
