Wish I could get into books. I'm more for sophisticated manuals and the like. I would actually sit down and read an aircraft manual for a Boeing 737NG. I did read Inside Delta Force by Eric Haney though. That was interesting. I have some survival books and the like. One of them being about tracking. Like paw prints and such. Even have a SAS handbook. But novels? Nah...

I'm the only member of my family with a bookshelf which is pretty sad. Although my sister reads novels.

Cool story, bro.

yah pretty much, except he does die when exposed to enough sunlight or silver unlike that super hero.

So, someone said "oh, just like Blade!" and the writer was like "what can we do to make him different enough not to get sued? Oh, sunlight CAN kill him, if he sunbathes on the beach for a weekend!"

There was a series based on Blade and the way the vamps there avoided the issue was to wear head to toe uv protection in the form of motorcycle helmets and clothing.

The daywalker phenomenon is common in vampire lore so I don't think just the concept would get them sued. Personally I like the idea since it adds another type of vampire to the hierarchy. It's a little like having a queen in chess - all of the advantages of other pieces with none of the drawbacks.

book spoiler

Eventually in the books it doesn't matter about day walkers. Master wins by detonating 6 nukes at all the birth sites of the Ancients which kills them and causes a nuclear winter. So basically the Earth is blanketed in crap 23 out of 24 hours. So the vamps under direction of the Master pretty much control the planet. The day walker bit is rarely played in the books. The sensitivity to silver for the Master's son, also referred to as the Unborn or something like that, is played out a bit more due to the book on the origin of vampires and how to kill them that Dr Eph and gang need to figure out where the Master's birth place is. The Unborn guy can handle the book a bit and tries to help them solve the mystery of the Master in order to defeat him, but it's his sensitivity to sunlight and silver which ultimately prevents him from helping the team. The book is designed to only give its secrets in full daylight when held by a human.

Well, Del Toro did direct Blade 2. Theres a lot of similarities with that and Strain.

I got caught up, smh. I like how vampires are killing people left and right and you have stores open and business as usual. Sure we will do take out delivery, sure we will have bus routes and everything else like normal.

Yup. Was rewatching Blade and Blade 2 last night.

Maybe I misinterpreted something previously, but I thought it was clear that the master was going to transfer to the rocker a couple episodes back.

As far as the transfer process, didn't anyone watch the previous flashback scene where the master transferred to the "giants" body?

Maybe they did it to cheapen the budget, but the building explosion seemed to be underwhelming. And the guy setting them and running away very shortly thereafter walks in to the upper floor level?

The trip to DC seemed to be a waste of time. If someone was trying to get this out and made, why not grab a laptop, get all info into some digital files and then flood the info everywhere. NYC may be in technology he'll, but posting that stuff and submitting it directly via the net in DC going to be a bit harder to stop than simply taking out a couple individuals. Realize this may have been done to make overall plot theme of show mimic the book closer, but execution was rather lacking.

The fight scene was great, some good sword action then pull out the uzis to finish the rest of the little bastards. Have to wonder how many of them are left.

And yes, was fairly lol at the butler guy coming back into the series to only loose his head. Not sure how he actually got offed, but for TV why not use him in some suicide role knowing you've got about a day left in him before transformation starts taking a pronounced effect.

Man that "explosion" to bring down the building seemed weak AF... I mean unless that new hunter guy is twice as good in combat as the Master, I don't even see how it's possible that fight was going to even be remotely close. The show has already shown the old man is no match for the masters right hand guy... so ya..

the thing about the show that is bugging me is that the city knows there are monsters romaing around in packs that shoot a 6' worm out of their mouth and kill people. If the city knows, the media knows and a story that big would be viral faster than Rosi McDonald eating a big Mac.

so where are the troops? why hasn't the area been turned into a warzone hunting them down. the whole idea that its being treated like a Ebola outbreak and the CDC is handling it is just stupid.

And the ebola outbreak had plenty of military personnel involved. So it's not like just because the CDC is taking lead = no other action is taken.

However - sometimes there is this idea called Suspension of Disbelief. I try not to pick apart all the little things. Every single show has them. Every movie has them. Every novel has them. Accuracy is sacrificed for plot purposes. Or the authors never imagined that was possible from their POV and didn't bother explaining how they reach that conclusion. Perhaps they are outright wrong, didn't think of it, don't address it... oh well. The show won't go down as an epic award winner, but I'm enjoying it.

Stoneheart and $$$$$$$$

Also... this. Forgot about that.

Broadcasts are completely cut off, as is the internet, so the speed of the messaging is significantly slowed down. Think back to old days when news traveled very slowly. The only word is some word of mouth from media personnel who can get off the island or other people who have left. And on that matter, Stoneheart has a very heavy hand in what can leave, with a lot of censorship happening at higher levels.

Don't forget when they are walking in DC taking to the NG officer he mentions they have spent considerable resources but adding something like getting pressure from above, which ties to my previous reply.

haha, yeah that was totally worthless it seemed. hopefully the upper building was demolish and it was only because they were underground?

I dunno, the vampire was training for 2000 years to beat The Master, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing. He just as to be prepared for The Master's speed.

That is a bit about why they introduced a few more characters to the TV series, like the hacker girl, to make that black out of info a bit more plausible. In the books basically all the vamps, having lived for centuries, have accumulated vast amounts of wealth. The Master is basically using all his accumulated wealth, along with certain promises to high ranking government and media officials, to keep the info black out going during his assault. In the books there was more than just Palmer and the CDC chief, but they weren't really named characters either.

Also, in the books, NYC isn't the only city being assaulted like this. It just happens to be where the master is at. He actually has a few lieutenants assaulting pretty much all major world population centers about the same time doing what he is doing.

Another thing, whenever anything is posted about it on the internet, his human sympathizers are there to do whatever they can to get is dismissed by the masses. His shills make it seem like the posts or videos are fake movie trailers, or bad costumes, or whatever.

Finally, as his influence spreads, he has his vamps and some human sympathizers take out infrastructure related to media spread in the books globally. Communications go down and get spotty every where as the vamps spread.

Guessing the TV show doesn't have the ability to delve that deep so are using a few key characters to sort of convey about the same level of media black out. I don't think it's effective as the characters as basically doing computer "magic" to pull it off. Not quite as bad as swordfish, but I really hate computer magic.

I was wondering as I caught up last night if Del Toro wrote the books based upon his work in Blade 2, or if he was hired for Blade 2 because of his books.

I really wish they'd expand more on why the general population doesn't seem to notice there's a huge issue going on. It's one of the big sticking points for me on this show.

It's not like the Master hasn't been doing anything this whole time.
He's even old than him since you know it's his dad and all.

Yeah, but The Master spends most of his time laughing maniacally and telling people he's the master. The other dude is Russell Crowe in Gladiator.

The 'gladiator' vamp?
Looks like he learned a few tricks in all those years...

If the master knew of him, (how could he not?) then, you would think he would have sent everyone after him.
I wonder if this is going to be another of those 'he was under the protection of the stationary vamps', but, don't know how they could protect anyone ?
