Vlad of the verge got 3 days of battery life and he didn't even use any of the battery saving modes on his phones! When Android L rolls out, battery life will be even BETTER. Wouldn't be surprised if you could get 4, maybe even 5 days of normal use with Android L and stamina mode turned on. Apparently Android L increases battery life by 30% by itself.

IT TOOK ME NEARLY THREE DAYS TO DRAIN THE Z3 COMPACT’S BATTERY
One of my biggest challenges with this review was figuring out ways to use up these phones’ batteries. It took me two days and 20 hours to drag the Z3 Compact’s battery to below 10 percent. Even on the day when I went out shooting sample photos and video with the Z3 Compact, I was only able to eat up about a third of its charge. The Galaxy Alpha, which accompanied it on the trip, was in need of a recharge in the evening having been fully topped up in the morning. The Z3 is just as impressive as the Z3 Compact, though its larger screen consumes more power under intensive use and leads the bigger phone to run out of juice a little bit quicker.

Even without activating the Battery Stamina mode — which minimizes data transfers to improve endurance even further — I found the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact to be the longest-lasting smartphones I’ve tested. There’s an extra Ultra Stamina mode, to make the most of the last few drops of power remaining, and a power consumption monitor that can tell you if some apps are being particularly greedy. Sony has put together an excellent combination of the biggest possible batteries, the most efficient possible processor, and some of the most useful power management software around.

This is probably going to be my next phone.

If Sony brings the Z3 Compact to all major US carriers and gets some decent marketing muscle behind it - I think it'll be an industry shaking move. Techies will get it first, but word of mouth will build even for non-techies.

Compact, powerful, amazing battery life, light skin - as long as Sony brings the Android L update close to the end of the year, they'll have a winner and set themselves up with buzz in the US for the next gen as well.

<edit> Getting a good ad company is critical - being able to make the right biting ads focusing on size and battery life should be a slam dunk - but I can certainly see them screwing it up.

thats good considering they dont have removable batteries.
I still would prefer a slightly smaller Z3 Compact. But overall its good stuff.

Sony is getting some good press and buzz with some early favorable reviews of the new Z3 phones. If they don't screw up on the US availability, Sony might create some waves and take some market share away from Samsung, HTC, and LG. I'm probably going to get the Z3 Compact mainly out of curiosity and to see if the hype of real and worthy.

Sony recently threw the kitchen and everything out the door with their revised downward mobile sales forecast. Sony investors might finally see a nice upside surprise next year.

It's the midrange and low end phones that screwed over their profitability. Their xperia Z line sells pretty well in Europe/Asia.

Midrange and low end are zero sum game best left to the Chinese. Sony is not selling in Asia. Sony is pretty much only selling in Japan. Outside of Japan, it's pretty much Samsung. And even in Europe it's mainly in the UK Sony is selling. Sony needs the high end for the margin. Sony is a premium brand. If Sony can't compete in the high end, it's better for them to completely exit mobile and admit complete failure as a company.

They just announced that it's exclusive to Verizon the US market. Since I'm not on Verizon - and am definitely not switching - that sort of sucks. I guess I can try getting it on Ebay... but I think I'll just give up on the Z3.

Only thing that's a dealbreaker for me on the Z3/Z3c is the lack of development and the fact that unlocking the bootloader cripples the camera. The hardware on this thing is solid. I would love to run CM on this thing, and while I know it can, the Z2 never got the attention it should like having double tap 2 wake in its CM builds.

well, they said a Z3v variant is exclusive to Verizon, with wireless charging

T-mobile should still get a Z3 sometime..

Verizon models are SIM unlocked and have AWS LTE for T-Mo though...

CDMA 1x EVDO 850 (BC0), 1900 (BC1) MHz

At this point shouldn't this no longer be an issue? Refarm seems mostly complete and so most of AWS is now LTE with 3G on PCS.

well, t-mobile still mainly uses AWS 3G ...

so if you don't get LTE, then you'll drop all the way to 2G

anyways, that model is the Z3v exclusive, not the Z3 model going to T-mobile (which has all bands including band 12)

How is Sony in terms of updating their phones? Last I checked, track record wasn't that great.

No. T-Mobile will have a normal non-v version. Same release day as the "v".

With the 32GB note 4 and 16GB 6+ at $750, and 16GB 6 at $650, think the Sony is priced competitively

Z3c D5803, 100% on 2g/3g for att and tmobile

Att: 100% LTE (2,4,5,17)

T-Mobile: works on the two main LTE bands(2,4), missing the 700mhz band 12

No sprint or Verizon.

With 10% Sony EPP and 5% discover, comes to maybe $480 after tax?
