Believe it or not, this movie had some serious geek cred. Hell... the first 10 minutes of the movie where Zuckerberg was hacking all of the dorm room facebook sites probably had more accurate technical dialog in it than the last five so called "hacker" movies put together. No fake Hollywood graphical UI's, no made up techno-babble. It was the real deal.

Bravo to Arron Sorkin... he did his homework on this one.

LOL? The idea that those Harvard twins had was nothing more than an idea on a chalkboard. I can start talking about making flying cars but that does not give me the right to say that I am the creator of flying cars when they do go into production.

The movie IS about FB, greed, money, betrayal, and ultimately the lonesome path that great financial success brings.

He was hired to code ConnectU, took over that code, and remade it into FB...
Also, he is not that smart either - its not like he invented PHP...

Edit:
The Soundtrack:

Is awesome.

I love it, be CEO of a company which has completely permeated our society and you're considered "not that smart"

A Beautiful Mind was about game theory.
Flash of Genius was about windshield wipers.
Envy was about a spray that could vaporize dog poo.
Pirates of Silicon Valley was about the personal computer.

Weird... I watched and thought they were about the people and their achievements. :)

Just like this movie is about the guy who stole ideas/concepts to create Facebook [similar to Pirates of Silicon Valley].

Like it or not - Facebook is worth more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes - and I'm jealous. :)

He screwed few people, he had connections, he got lucky a bit, and he knew how to code.
That is it. With few right type of well connected people around you, YOU could launch a successful project, whatever that may be. I am sure that you thought about at least one web based idea that COULD be useful. Most likely though, the diff between us and the Zuk is the fact that Zuk was ready to screw his closest associates over in order to get what he wanted. I am not sure if I could screw someone over to get the project move my way...

So maybe that is the diff?
Tue fact that some people are ready to go that "extra mile" and cross the moral line in order to achieve what they want?

Edit:: He also took over the code as well. He was hired to do connectu and he took it with him to CA saving valuable time and resources.

Man, you make this whole permeating modern society and changing social norms for the entire world thing sound pretty easy...

The film is excellent. And the score ( by Trent Reznor!) plays as important a role in this movie as did the score in There Will Be Blood.

All I want is for someone to succeed fair and square. We want and NEED leaders who play clean so that they can serve as an example. We have enough shady creeps as it is. We don't need them to run the world...

For example, Google guys: Sergiey Brin and Larry Page.
Decent, smart, well articulated pair that has achieved a great success without rolling anyone over in the process.
Sure, they do have some small problems here and there but it is expected and understandable given the size and the global reach of Google.

What a great movie. I was actually a little disappointed when it finally ended because I wanted more.

You think Google got where they are without screwing a single person over? It's business. You are gonna screw someone over whether you intend to or not.

I understand that, but no one sued Google over the origins of their first "core" idea. Their research and prototyping process has been well documented over at the Standford's CS department...
Google guys were legit scientist guys with an excellent concept. Also, the way Google has carried itself ever since is good IMO.

I am not an absolutist. I understand that the business requires tough choices and actions. Still there are 3 lawsuits against FB that have been settled for large amount of money (like 65 million in one lawsuit). You do not settle for large amount of money unless you have something to hide.
Guilty as Bill O'reilly with the fallafel :)

Quit defending the retard douche already...

Hollywood and its exagerations...

Why not make a "myspace"? Just whatever sells you know?

Facebook = fakebook? Catfish or crapdish networking?

I'm sure if you ask yourself the right questions, you can read google how facebook was created without having to watch the movie. However, the target market aims towards a younger audience - sounds like something Hollywood would do to strap cash and milk the cow on something popular.

Personally, I'm not going to bother watching it, movie looks stupid anyway. Maybe if it were a comedy, perhaps, but it looks like a full fledged piece of drama crap.

It's actually targeted towards the adult demo, hence the sorkin/fincher connection.

but hey, whatevers, it's nice to know you can't get past the subject matter of the film.

Also, 97 metacritic rating.

FB wasn't an original idea, and did less than other similar sites. It was mostly luck, something that makes an impact on society isn't always make the creator "OMG so brilliant!" What are the 2 most popular web sites today?

Facebook.com
Twitter.com

Twitter? really? I rest my case.

Saw the movie last night and thought it was great. Well acted all the way through from people I previously didn't think could act. It won't take MY best movie of the year, but it was still very good.

I liked how some emphasis was put on the exclusivity part of connectU and facebook, which IMO really is what made it popular. When facebook was for college kids only it was at it's peak... much cleaner and more mature than Myspace which is what set it apart. Good to see that make its way into the story.

I had facebook from 2007 until my boss told me to get rid of it. Zuckerberg is more of a douche than Steve Jobs but I actually respect Jobs, alot. Anyway, I'll watch this movie when it comes to Netflix.

Anyone who respects Steve Jobs has no say in how any CEO is.
