My 13 year old niece wants to see this, she was like "OMG, Justin Timberlake!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"

So I blocked facebook.com on my sister's router.

Way too many commercials for the movie on TV. Seeing the same thing 20 times a day is not going to make me go see it.

what I want to know is whether this got made with zuckerberg's approval, ie, whether it's going to touch all the allegations of him stealing the website from others

Have you seen the trailers? It sounds like MOST of it is based around Zuckerberg getting sued and accused of stealing.

FWIW, I remember reading something that Zuckerberg wasn't all that happy with "the facts" in the movie... which probably means it's accurate 😛

Yeah the WSJ had an article today about Facebook getting into damage control mode about the movie. Like the OP I went from thinking this was lame to thinking I might actually watch it. I usually like Sorkin stuff.

I hate the actor playing him. I guess he does kinda look like him, but I just don't like him. He's the bastard child of Michael Cera and Andy Samberg and he annoys me.

It'a a movie about facebook.

It's a movie. About facebook.

A movie. About facebook.

REALLY? About facebook? REALLY? SERIOUSLY? Facebook? REALLY?

i bet it's a movie about facebook like fightclub was a movie about soap.

i think the trailers look way too dramatic and terrible. i doubt that's how it all went down. will wait for a non-fiction documentary.

I love all the douche ATOT'ers that go 'FACEBOOK, REALLY?'

I guess one of the most culturally significant events in the past 5 years isnt worth making a movie about...

Yep, I will definitely see this; not sure whether in theatres or as a rental.

I've listened to the 5-track sampler a few times (Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross) and I really like it. This movie should have a wicked soundtrack too.

Culturally significant? Really? Serious? Facebook? Culturally significant? Really?

NO

The culture we live in consists of a lot of people that aren't you. And millions of them use Facebook and it is a significant part of their lives.

A Beautiful Mind was about game theory.
Flash of Genius was about windshield wipers.
Envy was about a spray that could vaporize dog poo.
Pirates of Silicon Valley was about the personal computer.

Yeah, farmville and mafia wars are serious business. 😛

For real though, anything that gets my mother online and looking up her high school friends is pretty significant. She has a hard time even using the DVR.

I don't use Facebook, but there isn't a day that goes by where I don't hear it mentioned by somebody at least once.

Well it kind of is and you are completely missing the point. I'm not even on Facebook and I can understand this.

KT

Indeed. There are lots of things I have only a passing knowledge of and I don't give a shit about (iPhones, iPads, Twitter, American Idol, Glee etc.) that I can nonetheless identify as culturally significant.

Tends to make conversations less awkward when you can actually acknowledge this.
