showering everyday for me lowers the amount of dust and loose hair in my room. So I shower to get all those loose cells and hair out.

LOL, that's practically the definition of a neurotic phobia. If you can't tell from observation or your senses, but have to think about it, the problem is you. Hey, I have a few myself--the texture of seafood bugs me beyond all reason--but we both need to acknowledge that these are just personal (or cultural) hangups which have nothing to do with facts and reason.

Besides, it's not like showering rids you of 100% of dirt and bacteria, and in fact it would be bad if it did. Being too clean is just as unhealthy as being too dirty, but for different reasons.

ok i discussed this with my boyfriend and he agrees i might just have a slight phobia about it. maybe a tad ocd about it....
but i do think its ok to once in a while skip a shower or not shower after having done nothing in your own apartment all day.

i like the part of feeling refreshed that a shower brings and if i shower twice in a day, its usually because i did something that caused me to sweat or feel unclean and i wash the parts of me that feel dirty to me.

Does she use a bidet (*)? If so, carry on. Else showering a little more regularly would be a good thing.

* or uses the spit technique.

You're so lucky to be living in an age with indoor plumbing.

Back in old old times, rich people bathed roughly once a year.

In the early days of America, bathing was though of as a health hazard.

Even go back just 50 years, draw a bath weekly, and one by one each person bathed in the same water as the previous person.

I'd say you have a mild case of bacteriophobia, or one of the other dozen fears of being unclean.

LOL
i would DIE if i had to live like that. but then again, showering daily has become the norm... and now that i do think of it, i dont like dirtiness of really any kind... excessive dirtiness.

hmmmmm, makes one think!

It depends on whether I've done anything that day. If I'm not going to leave my apartment (whether it's for homework or otherwise), then sometimes I won't shower that day but will definitely shower the next morning.

Most weeks I shower every morning, since most days I have things to do outside of my apartment. It's those rare days when I have nothing to do outside of my apartment that I'll skip a shower.

Women don't sweat as much as men, so I'd say it'd make sense if some of them could get away with not showering daily (especially if their hair doesn't get oily).

LMAO.... i dont try to control her. but anyways... let me just clear up that skipping a shower like once a week-ish isnt that big a deal, granted you were previously clean and spent an entire day lounging around your house. thats ok IMO and im certain ive done it a few times myself.

The funny thing is though the girl I am currently seeing says I shower too often and she asks me to not shower for a couple of days sometimes. It's really strange and I feel very dirty when I do it, but it floats her boat for whatever reason (she says it's manlier).

KT

I think it's Robin Williams who does a bit about that; basically, it's about how French men don't bathe very often. However, because the body secretes natural pheromones, French men get laid all the time. You go over to France, everyone smells like they spent their day rolling in dog shit, but that scent they reek of also contains pheromones which work subconciously to drive women wild. When you take a shower, you're washing all those natural pheromones off. Consequently, the less you bathe, the more attractive you appear to the opposite sex.

Go figure.

aww hell naw!

It's good to remember that filth actually strengthens the immune system, making you more resistant to REAL disease. Farmers that work with a lot of manure are statistically at less risk of developing lung cancer, for example. They're constantly breathing in dead (and some live) bacteria. I read a good article about it; having the immune system constantly fending off attacks (even if the invaders are already dead which is often the case) keeps things running more smoothly.

It's a little counterintuitive, but an immune system constantly under attack is better than an immune system that rarely has to do anything. And that's not just with respect to a particular strain; fending off the bacteria from cow shit entering the lungs somehow helps to prevent cancer because the immune system is stronger overall.

So yeah, leaving a completely clean environment is less healthy than living in a slightly dirty one. I'd wager that showers probably don't do much for our health, they just make us smell nice and feel good.

depends on the level. constant infection/inflamation is linked to cancer

and theres farmers lung
http://www.cdc.gov/nasd/docs/d...0/d001538/d001538.html
Farmer's lung is an allergy caused by dust from moldy hay, straw and grain. In early stages of the disease, it can seem like nothing worse than a nagging winter cold. If ignored, the allergic reaction can cause permanent lung damage. The victim may be forced to give up farming and -- in some cases -- may suffer from permanent disability or even death.

Early diagnosis is crucial if lasting damage is to be prevented. Because farmer's lung is characterized by cold or flu-like symptoms, early detection is difficult. Many victims won't even bother to visit a doctor despite persistent symptoms. When they do, the exposure to moldy crop material is rarely mentioned to the physician. This can be disastrous, because each exposure increases the damage. Farmers who don't seek medical help could saddle their families with an invalid.
Molds the cause

When crops are stored without sufficient drying, they begin to heat. Many kinds of mold grow in such environments. When a farmer works with such material -- for example, when a bale of hay is broken open -- the mold is released as part of a very fine dust. A farmer who is working indoors can inhale a large amount of this dust in a very short time.

Because the dust is so fine, it gets past defense systems in the nose and throat. When the dust reaches the inner parts of the lungs (called the alveoli), the lungs' internal defense system takes over. In most cases, the dust is removed without damage. However, an allergy to the material develops in a few individuals. In other words, the body 'assumes' that the mold is more dangerous than is really the case, and prepares to combat the intruders.

The first exposure in sensitive individuals only creates the allergy. Every subsequent exposure triggers an allergic reaction. The body's immune system goes to work against the mold, producing symptoms which may resemble anything from a cold to pneumonia. Scar tissue (fibrosis) forms within the lungs. While cold-like symptoms may clear up, the fibrosis is permanent.

Lung damage may be too slight to notice in the early stages of farmer's lung. However, each subsequent exposure increases tissue damage. A victim will soon begin to notice that they are short of breath. At first, this makes strenuous work more difficult. Even routine tasks become too much after frequent, repeated exposure. Eventually, the victim may find it a struggle to even get out of a chair.

This is not a good poll. Since once and twice every day will be the most common responses, you should have at least split those up.

Just keep in mind that 2 generations ago it was not uncommon to only shower once every 7days or so (usually the day before or same day of Church) "cleanliness is Godliness".

Side note as well it's not insanely horrible to not shower everyday or every other day your helping your body grow immune to simple germs. Where as washing constantly (OCD clean) may keep you from becoming immune to them.

If you don't stink or have greasy hair... if you don't feel like you need it... so be it.
I personally *feel* dirty even if I just have a normal day if I do not take a shower.

Most of the time I take a shower in the morning, then always wash my face and sometimes take a shower in the evening to calm down.

I'd rather you stayed slightly OCD than listened to some of the nerdy slobs on this forum, theres people here that will tell you not to wash your hands unless you shit directly on them. And then there is the people that will tell you that blowing your nose on your shower wall is cleaner then using a goddamn tissue. Argh, this forum and hygiene is at odds with each other.

My GF is a clean freak. Showers day and night.

I shower usually once a day and during the summer 2-3x a day as I can't stand sweat.

GF also always showers faithfully after each every sex. It's kind of annoying because often times she refuses sex saying, "No I don't want to / have time to have sex then shower!"

I have to take a shower to wake up. I also stink so bad after working out that I have to take a shower. That always leads to twice a day showers for me.
