This is exactly what I was hoping to see from MS, and why I have been waiting to picking up a 360. Excellent news.

The most important thing about the zephyr is 65nm.

You wont need to buy extra cooling to stop the POS's from freezing up every hour or so periodically.

What's so special is MS gets a cut of every drive sold.

If you could use any old drive, they wouldn't get anything from the sale of them.

I also think MS learned from the original xbox, which was easy as pie to drop in a new drive.

Get one now that runs hot as hell and is know to either run or dies suddenly for no reason or get one that is sure to address those issues and may run forever without a hiccup? Shoot I wont even touch a steal of a deal 1st generation after reading the horror stories on it. I want to know when I turn it off for the night that the next morning it will turn back out without rings of death or lock ups, or having to buy external coolers, or what have you just so I can play with it for more then 3 hours straight or worry it will die all of sudden.

I agree...getting a generic drive like the PS3 would be nice...but wouldn't make as much business sense for MS. Only really hardcore/tech savy people are likely to use that feature and they wouldn't make such healthy profit margins off the HD sales for unlucky Core users. Again, I totally agree it would be nice if they gave you that option.

As for the wireless adapter...there are PLENTY of other options of out there.

I believe this is absolutely 100% bullshlt. There have been prototype HDMI 360's floating around for over a year now. All this probably is is a picture of one of them.

I don't think Microsoft is stupid enough to do this.

I trust Engadget and they are usually spot-on with things like this.

I believe it and I will be replacing my Xbox with a new one when they come out. I could really use the HDMI port as well as the 120GB HD.

Aye, that's why I'm thinking this maybe the real deal here. Although we may not get our hands on it till fall perhaps, any earlier would be a real suprise, although CES 07 is next week, MS might drop the whammy.

And yes, the cable that plugs into your TV right now (the HDAV pack) has a spot on the back of it that allows you to plug the optical cable into it. I have mine plugged into it.

Does this mean that the user now has to have 2 video cables plugged into the back of their xbox360 in order to use an optical output? That would be a horrible design decision.

Again, I'm sticking with my feeling that this is not real and it's just one of the prototype ones that have been around for a while. But with the MS show in the near future, I could be proven wrong.

Oh man, this is GREAT! Talk about punching Sony in the MOUTH! Sony is already seeing PS3 sales slow down, this will just add to Sony's pain. I like it! I'm glad I waited on buying my 360, but I'll probably get v2 as soon as it hits the shelves.

I don't think I've ever seen a TV that didn't have a digital output. So you run HDMI to your TV and your TV passes the audio out the digital output to your receiver.

hdmi supports 5.1. you just need a receiver that has hdmi in, which is not hard to find these days.

Why would you need two? If it carried the same design as now, the HDMI port would in fact be the same as the port is now, where the 5.1 comes off the back of the connector. Thus, the hdmi goes into your video port into the TV and the 5.1 surround sound comes off the back of the HDMI connector in the 360, as it does now with the RBG connector.

Well from the pics of it, it looks like hte back of that 360 doesn't take any proprietary connector for the HDMI as it currently does for it's video output. It looks like it takes any old HDMI cable that can plug into it.

Also I did not know that HDMI cables had 5.1 incorporated into them, so I am clueless about that part. What if you have a receiver that doesn't take HDMI but a TV that does? (as I do)? Then how would you get the optical output to the receiver if I wanted to use HDMI for video?
