Anyone know if the new 8 gig model has a gimped processor like the current gen one?
It seems the new IPT is video only... like the previous generation Nano was. If it's the same camera, he would've mentioned something about a backlit sensor and talked about the HDR that's coming in iOS 4.1. Of course this is the pessimist in me talking, and knowing that this is at least a HD 1280x720 capable camera, I think you can get some decent stills off of it even if it has to be downsampled to say 640x480 to be decent. The stills for the previous Nano were terrible, but that was a VGA camera with probably as bad quality as the original VGA camera phones like on the Moto V300 in 2004.
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/“You should have seen it!” is a thing of the past. Because with iPod touch, you’ll always have a great HD video camera with you. Say you’re at a party and you see someone popping and locking. You’re ready to capture the moment in all its glory. In high-definition 720p video. You can record video in low-light settings, thanks to the advanced backside illumination sensor. You can even edit and create your own
mini blockbuster right on iPod touch using the new iMovie app — with Apple-designed themes, titles, and transitions. It’s available on the App Store for $4.99.

new apple tv looks nice and at a decent pricepoint. whats going to make or break it for me is how open it is on formats streamed from a computer. knowning apple it will be pretty restrictive, although the mod community did wounders for the original appletv so we'll see what magic it can work for this one.

H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
I'm surprised he didn't demo the Touch, also it appears it cannot take photos?
I've been holding out for an iPod Touch, but now the question is to save $50 and get the 3rd gen model or is there enough in the 4th gen to justify the difference.
I really want a iTouch mostly for the apps/games. Games for android just aren't there yet. I just wish the 32 GB wasn't 299 still.

Steve Jobs said:"So let's start off with the iPod shuffle. We thought we could make a really affordable player that is super easy to use. The second generation was even better. The third generation we took off the buttons. but people clearly missed the buttons... so what are gonna do? The new iPod shuffle."

Don't care too much about the ipod stuff, but since I've been looking into various media options recently I have to say the AppleTV announcement is pretty bad.
It's a Netflix/YouTube streamer? So is the Roku, which is cheaper. You can rent movies for $4.99? Netflix is cheaper. You can rent TV shows for $0.99? An antenna is $10. It's guts for being a media extender look to be pretty weak. The SageTV Home Theater 300 is much more robust and $150.
Seems like it's too pricey to be a low-end streamer and too weak to be a cheap extender. And I think the TV rental model is bound to fail. It may be moddable, but there are other devices that don't need to be modded around the same price point.
What's the point?
The new Apple TV is an iTunes-crippled version of better media streaming devices that are already on the market. Buy a Western Digital WD TV Live Plus; no hacking needed and it already has 1080p support, along with support for infinitely more media formats.
