Education is very expensive.
No it's not. It's free. Look up the high school graduation rate of blacks in America and get back to us.

The status dropout rate declined from 12 percent in 1990 to 7 percent in 2010. Between 1990 and 2010, status dropout rates also declined for Whites (from 9 percent to 5 percent), Blacks (from 13 percent to 8 percent), and Hispanics (from 32 percent to 15 percent).
Nothing you just mentioned is unique to non-blacks.I never got given anything in my life! I worked my way up from scratch! Black can just do the same!
*had parents with college education, the #1 strongest determinant in how far you go in life*
*got first job out of school because 'looked respectable' unlike 'those types'*
*allowed into fraternity where important connections were made*
*had sufficient nutrition guaranteed throughout childhood, without daily stress and hunger*
*given a verbal warning when caught with pot, rather than sent to jail for years, thereby making getting any job much much harder*
*not told my entire life that I'm a dangerous thug*
Higher education is undoubtedly expensive. However, in some school districts in the country blacks are graduating at about a 50% (!!!!!!) rate from high school. That is free education, and they are not quitting school in general to make ends meet and help out their loving mother who works 60 hours/week. They are dropping out because they give zero shits and because nobody is around to tell them any differently (damn near 3/4 of black kids now grow up without a father. That is ball-busting insane).http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=16
Three percent difference, the question is why?
I had to drop out when my mom could no longer afford me, so I had to start full time work and got a GED. She had custody and my dad was out of the picture. I imagine that happens more than most realize.
Edit: When I said that education was expensive, I was obviously talking about higher education.
There are always exceptions, but when you look at hispanic communities for example you find a great deal more of them are not having children out of wedlock and, despite being impoverished, their success rates in school are much higher.

But the statistics I quoted above show that Hispanics drop out of high school at almost twice the rate of blacks.
It's odd that the same site shows a much different number for 2008-2009 drop out percentages than the chart you linked.

I would agree that it's always possible, I'm just saying it's more difficult, on average. For instance, a lot of people do not have parents capable of supporting them. That's just one plan. There are other plans such as apply with other companies, especially government entities or companies who work with government as contractors. If L-a is a smart black woman, she would be a double golden for companies (black AND female) to fulfill their AA/set aside programs. She could start her job search while she was in college to get experience and recommendation to go with her good grades and so on.
Then she could move back with parents to save money while she looks for job, she could move in with roommates to save money while looks for job, she could do this and that...and so on.
My point is it will NOT be easy for her for sure but give up and not trying her best is not the way to go IMO.
I'm not sure dropping out and getting a GED counts as not appreciating education. I once knew a guy who dropped out at 16 and went to work as a apprentice radio tower technician. He finished his GED at night. By the time he was 21 he owned two cheap houses outright. Not all good education comes in government buildings.http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=16

Well said, with the caveat that this applies to some percentage of every group. Even Asians, who have the best culture as a racial group, have people who feel entitled to something for nothing. As a Halfrican-American myself...I think the problem is two fold:
1) As someone previously mentioned, it is that they expect to be treated differently and
2) The have no interest in education or educating themselves in any way.
Item #2 bothers me the most.
Also well said. And the easier it is to climb out of the ghetto, the more ghetto children who will have that longing - because it seems possible. How refreshing to see someone who claims to be half black saying that we don't have an interest in education or being educated.
Really? All black people have no interest?![]()
Hasty generalization.
As I am sure you know, MANY of us do have an interest in getting an education and doing something great. I wish you idiots would stop assuming that we all follow some type of group-think where we all have the same morals, ideals, and aspirations.
I grew up in Detroit, in a "bad" neighborhood. According to the posters on this thread, that means I am dangerous and that I'm probably a thug. You guys need to stop making these generalizations about how people are because of where they grew up. In am a shining example of how wrong many of you are about people from poor areas. You make me want to actually steal from a white person just so I feel like I am satisfying the stereotype.
Yes, there are many blacks who come from poor areas that don't want to do or be anything. At the same time, there are many blacks from the same areas that long for an opportunity to get out of where they come from either via sports or education.
During my military career and current job I've worked with minorities of all races/nationalities and never seen any that were held back because of their color or nationality. Personally I see your post as being extremely disrespectful to those minorities that have busted their ass to attain the level of success they have in their lives.
Some people get out of that, sure. It's definitely possible. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do more to make sure everyone has the tools and opportunities to make as much out of their life as they can.
It was a Democrat President that did that, wasn't it?I agree with this. 60 years ago the USA incarcerated a bunch of Japanese who had committed no crime whatsoever.
Can Asians who had to use different water fountains too also use that excuse? The problem with blacks in america is basically that they have never been treated fairly.
Put yourself in someone elses shoes.
You've been taken from your home country. Scattered all over the country working against your will all the while being denegrated and treated like the scum of the earth. Then freed and scattered about the country with not knowing what your roots are and forced to overcome a society that continued to oppress, kill, and cheat.
And now in current day society, a new form of racism was created. A system that continues to ensure black folk will stay in their current situation in life, while allowing a small token few to experience the "American Dream".
I have to admit that those in power are clever. Creating a new system of racial segregation without muttering a single ni**er word. Bravo.
Dude, this is America; none of us know anything about our roots. We're a mongrel nation, and damned proud of it.Put yourself in someone elses shoes.

Nothing says segregation like NAACP and BET. derp derp.
That's funny because BET has no problem inviting non-black artists to perform at their events.
Clearly, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
What the fuck does the guests have to do? You can bring on whitey to make fun of them, that doesn't take away the fact you feel the need to segregate saying "THIS TV IS APPARENTLY WHAT BLACK PEOPLE WATCH. This is not like whitey to watch. Go back to Discovery Channel."
BET is not my cup of tea, but it hardly makes fun of the white talent it occasionally features. (Granted, in its sitcoms white people are often rather cartoonish, but so are blacks. That's the nature of sitcoms, writers are often tempted to go for the easy laugh.) And BET is not an attempt at segregation, just an attempt to make a buck by catering to a minority which may be under-served by mainstream programming. It's like FoxNews - you identify a void in the market and make buttloads of money filling it. Hell, it's probably not even owned by black folks. What the fuck does the guests have to do?
