top shelf stuff. its a shame it isn't sticikfied. i can somewhat understand why jonnyG wanted to let it slip, but the fact remains, 95% of the psu threads created here are answered on the first page.

of course, i guess people could just go here but history shows they won't :p

Yep! Alimentación is literally, alimentation or food energy. Alimentos are items of food. And caca is our local slang term for mierda a.k.a. merde, a.k.a. that bad smelly stuff.

OK a very liberal translation would, POS. And that is "un pedazo de mierda." A "PDM?" :D

All kidding aside - an excellent series of articles and knowledge. Good job!

I recently move from socket A to socket AM2. I just
found out the new CPU and PCIE demand much more
12 v than my my old CPU and AGP card. I'm using a
Cooler Master eXtreme power 430W with 18A on 12v
rail. On the CMOS's PC health section, the MB's reading:

+12.0V [11.52 to 11.58V]

As pointed out by myocardia, he suggested a PSU provide
at least (but not last) 11.80v.

Is there any way to determine the real out on 12v rail by
looking at the lable provided by manufacture?

Fro example,

Outpost is promoting an Ultra V-Series 400W PSU (free AR). It
claims to have 20A (max the standard). Can I expect it to
deliver 11.9v on 12v rail?

Many PSUs have double 12v circuits. Is there a
way to predict the combine 12v output without
actually install it?

This should be a new thread.

I would only use an Andyson built Ultra PSU. The UL number would be E239028.

The Youngyear built Ultras are E126556 and I would avoid those myself.

I think you mean WinTech rather then Andyson. I don't know of any Andyson built Ultra PSUs. The V-Series, X2, and X-Finity PSUs are WinTech. The X-Connect is Youngyear.

Hi. I've put together a little script that calculates efficiency savings, etc. when upgrading a PSU. It's not supposed to be something to tell you what sort of a PSU you need.

It's terribly crude at the moment (because I've just knocked it up in 45 minutes) and I've guessed at the default values.

But what's different about this calculator is that it attempts to take into account PFC and wiring losses in your domestic wiring.

If people think it's a useful program I'll put a bit more work into it.

Comments on my 'pre-alpha' calculator are most welcome: Mark R's test PSU PFC/Efficiency calculator

That is a picture of the first computer pop up I've gotten in reference to my power issues. I am going to take it apart and see how I have it wired to make sure I'm not putting too much strain on the PSU on one rail.

This is my system:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester 1GHz FSB Socket 939
Leadtek GeFORCE 6600 GT
1 GB RAM, 2 Sticks
1 10000 RPM Raptor
4 7200 RPM HD's
1 CDRW
1 DVD-RW
4 Panaflo 80mm Fans

You need to connect a power cable from the PSU directly to your 6600GT.

Assuming that 6600 even has a power connector, right? ;)

It does not.

These are the specs for my current power supply.

Is this enough?

Can you provide a link to your graphics card? Is it AGP or PCI-E?

Hey Seasonic must be total junk. I have an M2 700. The wires are thinner than Antec/Enermax and the molex pins/sockets are tin instead of gold plated. What a rip off.

Thanks.

Do you know why the vid card could be displaying such a fault?

Bad motherboard? Bad video card?

Why didn't you start your own thread?
