Doubt most true diehard Bronco fans care about that at all. Tebow already provides us with enough bandwagoners, we don't need new ones from Manning.

I get that you are clearly just a Manning fan. Most people around here are Bronco fans first and foremost. We all loved Jay Cutler, but once he left we didn't follow him to Chicago, and we won't follow Tebow or anyone else. The real Bronco fans will support our team regardless.

Uh, oh. On one of my 49ers fans mailing lists we are not allowed to discuss "real fans".

There is no way such a discussion can end well.

(We have also forbidden Montana vs. Young discussions.)

Not really, its still a 2-horse race. SF has no chance

If you're saying that because of your "Manning won't go to the NFC" thingy, I give more credence to CBS sports than I do to you:

"What's to like: Like Tennessee, Denver is in the AFC, and that's good. A person who should know told me the whole AFC/NFC thing isn't much of a factor with Manning, though it was at one point. But that changed as time went on, and he's OK with either conference." (Italics and underlining added by me.)

Not saying I think he'll go to SF, but there's more than "no chance."

Hey ... You can believe what you want. Manning worked out for SF on Tuesday and no body in the local media even noticed? That speaks for itself.

That kind of thing could never happen in Denver, our sports media would be all over it. John Elway can't even tie his shoes without it being on Twitter.

There is a reason we are the only city in the West with every major sport, and by far the smallest city with all of them. Even the not so major sports are all here. Hell there aren't even too many other cities that have all of them, large or small. And the Broncos are by far the biggest thing around here.

Hey, I am probably off. I would believe what he has to say as well. I still don't think SF is really much of a contender - but really, stranger things have happened

So, what is with this 49er talk? I think he is just trying raise the price now....I mean really... it's playing out like "the decision", just without the TV special.

I am a Colts fan, and Irsay lied. Plain and simple.

I definitely get that. And if you are a Colts fan you will forgive, or at least forget it.

I believe that you probably are a true Colts fan, and you will be more than happy once Luck gets a couple years under his belt and continues the winning heritage Peyton started

I understand being pissed at Irsay. And it may have made sense to keep Manning a little longer. I don't know enough about their salary and team situation to weigh in on that.

But Bill Walsh's philosophy was that it's better to cut a guy a year or two too early than to keep him around too long. Everything I've seen (and I'm probably the world's foremost football expert ():) :D ) makes me think he was right. Keeps fresh talent coming in, prevents you from getting old and being stuck with a team in decline.

Be glad you had Manning so long. Be glad Luck is on the way.

There is a reason we are the only city in the West with every major sport

That is one of those useless facts that only locals pull out to try to make their city sound better than it is.

I got a similar kind of thing for the 49ers that made me feel better when they sucked:

The 49ers are the only team to play in more than one Super Bowl without any losses.

As I said in another thread, I'll be one of the first in line to get my Andrew Luck jersey and I'll also be one of the first in line to get Peyton's new jersey.

It has nothing to do with that, its only saying that sports, all sports, are really popular here. Most people don't know that. Some people might not even see that as a good thing. Its just a fact.

We are even getting a second minor league hockey team here soon, and most people don't know how popular hockey is around here.

And frankly, everyone who lives here knows how great Denver is. In fact, we want others to think that it sucks here, WAY too many people moving here as it is

Why, I am stupid b/c I ask why he would rather run down the clock then score the TD?

They'd rather run down the clock because it's as close to a sure thing win as they can get. Do that instead of giving other team the ball and a chance to make something crazy happen.

Be glad you had Manning so long. Be glad Luck is on the way.

I think if Irsay would've been honest and upfront and said "Look, we just can't make this happen," people would have felt better about the situation. However, he said as recently as right before the Super Bowl that Peyton was a Colt if he was healthy.

Now, the rumor going around was that Colts doctors told Irsay months ago that there was no way on earth that Manning would be recovered enough my March for them to declare him healthy or able to play. Therefore, Irsay was trying to be the "good guy" to the fanbase by saying that Peyton was a Colt if he was healthy and that if he wasn't, he would not put him at risk. The entire time, he allegedly knew (according to this rumor) that there was no way Manning would be healthy enough. None of them expected Manning's quick recovery and it took them by complete surprise and that's why there was all the media drama and Irsay was trying to save face.

Now, about Luck. He is compared to Elway and Manning, and even though there have been #1 overall QB picks that were busts (Russell, Couch, Carr, possibly Jeff George), I don't recall any of them except perhaps George being called an all-time talent. So, I do have some comfort level that the buzz about Luck is probably accurate and he will probably be a great QB one day. That is comforting. :)

No, you're stupid because you said this:

Those are 2 totally different statements/questions.

MotionMan

OK....so I am stupid for asking why Peyton does not let his defense just take care of the rest of the 1 minutes and 45 seconds?

Well, I am not sure you are technically stupid (you used that term first), but your football IQ appears to be very low.

Not the same as discussing Montana vs. Young with 49ers fans.

MotionMan
I actually almost got into that with a very good buddy and fellow 49er fan, I fall on the Montana side, he's on the Young side. We agreed to just drop it pretty fast :D
