Wouldn't be saying that if both your grand daddy and grand mama were used as military sex slaves, then had their heads cut off in public and fed to dogs.

Sure I would and I would admit to my countries' mistakes too. Japan itself isn't perfect nor not guilty of all crimes of it's past but it sure is the most advanced form of civilization there is in terms of economic power and social progress. There's no denying that no matter how it got there and that's what makes all of the other almost 3rd world corrupt asian countries so jealous and angry because we got there and they have not. It's a mere complex issue. The difference with Japan was that it was able to overcome all of that while the other angry countries continously bring up past issues without fixing their own issues.

If Japan is such an "elite society," why does it blatantly lie in the text books that all these things never happened? Social progress? Please. Japan suppresses the atrocities.

I guess Germany must not be an "elite society" since they are so open to their past.

It's a tiny minor issue that wouldn't make a difference in society anyway. Some things are simply better kept buried. Much like Area 51 ;)

Not really, you'll have an even bigger mess that you'll feel inclined to clean up and brag how you 'brought up' a levelled country.

You are overreacting a little no?

I'm not equating you with the guy in the movie. I'm exposing the fallacy of your argument. In fact, how about the fallacy of your argument on two levels: are you Japanese? If not, what the hell difference does it make whether you are "Asian" or not? Asia is a pretty big place, and the only place where "Asian" is a race is America; regardless, simply because you are <insert race> doesn't mean you cannot make a racist statement towards that race.

What about South Korea? They got there without being sadists. In fact, they got there after being ravaged by Japan as well.

Eh who cares about a bunch of copycats anyway? They even teach their kids to hate the Japanese from kindergarten essentially brainwashing them.

No Mr. Momusu otaku, I'm not an elitist ahole. I'm an ahole that can blatantly admit and accept truth who looks forward in life, not backwards.

See, I don't hate China nor Korea. In fact I wish the best of luck to them to finally dump their old memories and accelerate, move forward and stop being a bunch of whining annoying people who constantly pull OUR legs.

The fight is done and over with and we're even a completely different generation who really have NO TIME for any of this as there's far more important things to do like develope one's own country with one's own power. Wow, what a concept.

Look Kogase, your point is well taken, but when I said what I said, I didn't mean it. It was a sarcasm, to be taken with a grain of salt. I am a Korean, and I will admit that majority of Korean women in Korea have plastic surgery. That said I think you took it a little too seriously. My father was born in Japan due to Japanese colonization, and I still have relatives there who are 3rd generation Korean-Japanese, so I not far detached from Japan.

you speak like memory of the past is some kind of impediment for progress. I think countries like s. korea, germany etc are doing very well even with full knowledge of the past. there are a lot of reasons for china's relatively poor state (which is improving rapidly) but I'd say it has much more to do with the communist party than knowledge of the past.

No..you are quite detached in that no current gen Japanese in their right mind would bring up such ugly past : )

btw i'm chinese.

They refuse to even mention those deeds in their history books and there have not been general apologies, let alone for specific deeds. The Emperor never apologized. Some politicians have said that 'bad things happened', but only on a personal status and not for all of Japan, and they refuse to acknowledge the sex slaves as that might mean they'd have to mention them in the history books (OMG! It might mean the Japanese wouldn't look like the heroes of WW II!), and that they might have to compensate them for f*cking up their lives.

My great-grandmother (whom I have known still when I was a kid) was a prisoner in a Japanese camp, so screw anyone telling me that there is no need for the Japanese to acknowledge and remember the horrible things they did.

Several of the Japanese camps made Auschwitz look like Disneyworld, and I still think they should have nuked the Emperor's palace instead of Nagasaki.

The textbook that people like to cite is used by less than .03% of Japanese schools.

At least the Japanese do not celebrate their atrocities like the British.

Modern Japanese do not like to face ugly truths of their past. This is well documented.

It does not however change history or the facts. Omissions from textbooks do not erase the past. Some will never forget.

Japanese atrocities or British atrocities?

I'm amazed that someone can ask about either one.

You stated that the British celebrate their atrocities and I want you to cite an example because I clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

problem is china continues attrocities to this day. and won't even admit to its own horrors, from the 30 million dead in the "great leap forward" countless purges and gulags, tienamen square etc etc. heck they threaten the us over taiwan when we saved them from the japanese and even nuked their hated enemy. its no enviroment for apologies. the japanese have an open society where they are free to learn whatever they want. books on anything are published freely. you cannot say that at all about china who even censors their internet and sends agents into the chat/blogs to manipulate opinion. frankly most of the hustle is just political moves by china, their real goal is to prevent japan from gaining a chair on the security council. its underhanded bs.
