I guess Germany must not be an "elite society" since they are so open to their past.
The textbook that people like to cite is used by less than .03% of Japanese schools.
At least the Japanese do not celebrate their atrocities like the British.![]()
Japanese atrocities or British atrocities?
I'm amazed that someone can ask about either one.
You stated that the British celebrate their atrocities and I want you to cite an example because I clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

They refuse to even mention those deeds in their history books and there have not been general apologies, let alone for specific deeds. The Emperor never apologized. Some politicians have said that 'bad things happened', but only on a personal status and not for all of Japan, and they refuse to acknowledge the sex slaves as that might mean they'd have to mention them in the history books (OMG! It might mean the Japanese wouldn't look like the heroes of WW II!), and that they might have to compensate them for f*cking up their lives.
My great-grandmother (whom I have known still when I was a kid) was a prisoner in a Japanese camp, so screw anyone telling me that there is no need for the Japanese to acknowledge and remember the horrible things they did.
Several of the Japanese camps made Auschwitz look like Disneyworld, and I still think they should have nuked the Emperor's palace instead of Nagasaki.

I'm saying that they celebrate the British Empire. It is viewed favorably when they killed more and subjugated large portions of the world for a much longer period. The Japanese and the Germans do not celebrate their empires.

Wow. Perfect opportunity to call out deathkoba on his nonsensicle "jealousy" argument, and you ruin it by being a racist dipsh!t. Way to go.
Since I am an Asian, I must be racist

There is a huge distinction to be drawn here.

The British Empire was far more ruthless than the Germans or Japanese. You have to be kidding if you think that they did not claim large portions of the world by torture, genocide, and ambition. Greed is not a noble ambition. The numbers killed under British rule make the Japanese and Germans look like amateurs.
You sound just like a crazy Holocaust denier.

perfect example of the ignorance of the people trying to recast this as the new holocaust. sorry, as bad as it was it doesn't compare. the victims of auschwitz alone are between 1.1 -1.5 million. the infamous rape of nanking was maybe 100-200k people. horrible yes. but saying aushwitz was like disney world? thats ignorance. anything the japanese did the nazi's did. from human experiments to rape and murder. the germans killed their neighbors, their own people in a systematic system of genocide. much of the japanese horrors can be explained as just the army running amuck. before the rape of nanking the the japanese had fought through massive resistance by the chinese.

Dude, you are high or something. Their is very little that can compare to the wholesale slaughter the Germans, Japanese, and the Chinese have done in this century.
Whatever the British did a couple hundred years ago would pale in comparison without a doubt.
And with that I leave you to your British hate....

Nanking is only a small part of the Japanese atrocities. And yes, Auschwitz was far from nice, but the Japanese were no angels compared to them either as some people would like us to believe. The horrible abuse of power by Japanese soldiers was actually encouraged by their government, and that is one of the things they do not want to acknowledge. They too experimented on prisoners, and they too killed a lot of people. Saying we should forget about it is saying we should forget about Auschwitz too, that the murder of millions of Jews in Europe is so long ago we shouldn't think about it anymore.
Both of my parents were alive during the Dutch hunger winter, and my grandparents on both sides had Jewish friends they took in to hide them from the Germans. I basically grew up hearing about WW II and all its horrors, and I think it would be good if they'd create a copy of Auschwitz (so the original stays in the current condition) to lock up people who claim the holocaust never happened, that 'we should let it go', that it wasn't that bad, or that future generations shouldn't be bothered with it. Let them experience the horrors themselves for a few months, and see if they are still so ignorant (and if so, just shoot them).
Yes, we cannot hold current generations responsible of deeds of their ancestors, just like we couldn't hold every Japanese or German responsible for the deeds of those who commited the crimes. But that does not mean either that we should not acknowledge what humanity is capable of inflicting on others, and that no group of people is free from flaws. There are no 'ubermenschen'. The Dutch and Americans acknowledge their part in slavery, the Germans their part in the holocaust, even the Vatican acknowledge their lack of condemnation against the Nazis, and the Japanese want people to forget their part in WW II?

nanking wasn't the small part of the atrocities, it was the main part, which is why its referenced each time this is brought up.
as for the other guy saying it was 300k, well thats the high estimate.
as for the resistence, it was definetly high in the battles before, even with the communist fighting the government. frankly i blame mao for much of what happened, and supposedly he was complicit with the japanese in a new biography based on newly released soviet documents to boot.
the thing is that it is not the same as germany. the enviroment of china is that apologys to such a regiem are just not prudent. if we stalemated with hitler would we apologize for dresden? chinas motives are highly political and while any sane person would push for an apology sometime in the future, pushing for one to the current oppressive dictatorial regiem while they continue to commit human rights attrocities to this day while white washing their own past is just rather unwise.
