I fail to see the problem, even if it is unusual.

Exactly what I was thinking. The chickens would probably feel pain for half a second. I wonder what they do with the pile of chicken remains??

McDonalds chicken nuggets?

The farmers needed to destroy the chickens because they were "spent" -- or no longer able to produce eggs -- and could not make chicken soup out of them because the farms were under quarantine for the poultry virus Exotic Newcastle Disease, District Attorney's spokeswoman Gayle Stewart said.

I've heard of snapping their necks also as being the most "humane" way. Grab em' by the head and spin them, snaps their neck, job done.

No, I think the joke Nate made was funny. It was a pun off of the use of the woodchipper.

Besides, there is a difference between livestock and pets. These chickens were bred to serve a purpose. They served their purpose, and needed to be disposed of. Perhaps the chipper wasn't the best idea, but it is better than some methods.

I think they should have blown them up... dig a big hole, throw in chickens, and blow them up.

Stupid chickens. They're so stupid.

That is quite distrubing. I think they could have figured out a better way, even if it was more expensive.

30,000 chickens.. that's a lot of flippin' chickens. It must have taken them a good week to get that done.

I bet the smell was horrid.

I would like to have been there for the brainstorming session when they came up with 'woodchipper!!!'

They must have had some other awesome ideas.

2 things I wonder about...

How do you get the chickens into the wood chipper? Do you throw them in 1 by 1? Load them into some kind of dumptruck and dump them in? That is a lot of chickens.

And secondly, has PETA said anything yet? I know the humane society chimed in, I am wondering what stunt PETA will pull now.
