People waited in line so they could get the book and finish reading it faster.

Wow. I just finished the book, stayed up all night. Amazing book, by far my favorite in the series.

My favorite chapter is the Prince's Tale

Wow. Extraordinary end to an extraordinary series

Yep - I loved it, that was also my favourite chapter. Amazing how much was crammed into the book as a whole but that one chapter was incredible.

I have to wonder how the heck they can fit all of it in to a 2 hour movie.

Perhaps make it longer than 2 hours, like the previous ones?

Sorcerer's Stone - 2:32
Chamber of Secrets - 2:41
Goblet of Fire - 2:37
Prisoner of Azkaban - 2:21
Order of the Phoenix - 2:18
Half-Blood Prince - ???
Deathly Hallows - ???

I can't see how it will be less than 3 and still make it a movie that covers the details. The final battle to the end should take a good hour alone. There is also a LOT of backstory that is revealed in the final book, which explains everything. Showing that should take another hour. Add in the scened from before the final battle and you have at least another hour.

don't get me wrong, I loved the book, but I can't really see the final battle taking an hour.... and there's a ton of more-or-less filler that they could cut (dumbledor's backstory would be my first guess). though it's kinda hard to really discuss without getting too much into spoilers.

I know you as the rest of us were all anxious to see what happens at the end (?)
I can understand why you want to buy it as soon as it comes out, but I don't see why suffer and read like crazy when you can take your time, read it carefully, enjoy each chapter of this fine story.
I mean if you had the LAST bottle of a very fine expensive whine series you wouldn't just gulp the whole thing down at once, now would you?

Anyway, it was good to hear you liked it, I'm looking forward to reading it myself.

I didn't want the book spoiled for me, so I read it as quickly as possible simply because it's impossible to avoid spoilers on the internet (and sure enough, front page of the world of warcraft forums, there was a thread titled X, Y, Z DIE! -- wherein, of course, the characters who die in the book were listed in the title).

now that I've plowed through the 7th book (took me about 8 hours total, not counting the break I took to go run karazhan with my guild on sat. night), I think I might go back and re-read the series.

JUST finished the book, and it was AMAZING. I cried my heart out at a couple parts, but...Wow. Amazing. JK Rowling is a master of the written word.

wow, just finished, by far the best of the bunch.

We need a thread for people who have finished the book. So far we have this thread with no spoilers, and a thread labeled spoilers filled with people who have never read the book just posting spoilers to each other.

But I walked into Wal-Mart at 12:15AM and picked mine up without any line at all. :)

Finished it last night. I really liked it, and now I'm definitely depressed it's over. I didn't cry, but it wasn't outside the realm of possibility either. :(

Probably should've waited a few months to read this considering I'm in the middle of Erikson's series. While I thought it was the best of the books, it felt a little shallow since I'm engrossed in Erikson's style of writing right now.

Still, it was an excellent light read, and all the parts of the story involving Kreacher and the other "subservient" races were very well done, IMHO.

Man, I would have never guessed the Voldemort was really Harry's father and Hermoine was his sister.

edit: if you're interested in Harry Potter you may also like the Star Wars movies

A book needs a few good twists, and this tactic has been successful in the past.

I finished it this morning - was the first Harry Potter book I've ever read. I was entertained and created a good story and was pretty well impressed with how the story panned out.

I finished it this afternoon. I thought it was really good and tied up the series pretty well. I'm looking forward to future J K Rowling books.

I finished it this afternoon. I really enjoyed it. I heard/read somewhere that JKR was done with everything "Potter", that she was going to take a vacation. But the Epilogue leaves me wondering if there are more stories that she will write.

Overall, I was quite dissapointed with the whole series. It took a turn for the worst after the 4th book. I still purchased the last 3 books, but overall, I think the 1st, 3rd, and 4th books were the best of the lot.

I loved this book. I'm always sad when series' end but I started reading these books when I was in 3rd or 4th grade or maybe even 5th but I doubt that. All these years. Finally it's done.

The whole story of Snape was really well done. My favorite part by far. It didn't drag or seem too melodramatic like the 5th book.
