Thing is, there wasn't much in the way. Lords of the Fallen was the same week, but got less-than-stellar reviews. The Evil Within was a couple of weeks before. Call of Duty was the only major release close to it (one week after). I was able to get through the game before CoD was out, and cleaned up some Achievements before turning it in to Best Buy for Halo. It was in probably the only late-year lull in releases, as late-October was a bit lonely.
I'm sure it was hurt by it, because not everyone is interested in playing a game for a week, then trading it for the next game, like I did. What's worse is how Microsoft said that some projects might get pushed back from late-2015 into 2016, due to an overstuffed launch schedule. That was met with complaints about delays, and folks in the article comments were acting like they were being robbed of games.
End of the day, I'm glad Sunset came out. There isn't that much in the holiday slate that I care about. The Evil Within didn't grip me, and I was fine trading it back in. GTA, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and Dragon Age are franchises I don't play (not to say they are all bad, or shouldn't have been released). All I intend to plat from the holiday slate is The Evil Within, Sunset Overdrive, CoD, Halo, and Super Smash Bros. Since The last 3 are all November releases and The Evil Within didn't hold much interest, Sunset Overdrive fit into a nice two-week window for me, and it was a good break from the FPS party that will be my November-January life (CoD, Halo, and the Guardians beta).
