No, it makes everything much more affordable because the majority of points I've ever purchased have been 20%+ off. It doesn't matter if there are a few extra sitting around in there, I'll use them eventually.
If they ran 20% off sales, it would be just as affordable.

But what happens if I buy the disc, and just pass it around to my friends after activation? Or if I buy the disc and sell the activation code? Effectively, that is two copies of a game for the price of one. Publishers won't agree to that. And pricing of digital versus physical copies will remain the same to keep it even across the board and the required infrastructure would require an investment they could argue was worth that $10 per game.
