Oh man Halo 2? Sign me up! That game was one of the best competitive games back in the day! I hope they don't change a thing, but of course they will.

I was sad when they pulled Live support for OXbox. I was still playing Halo 2 on X360.

Well looks like Titanfall will be 100% fail in Australia and New Zealand. Minimum 120ms for AU and 220ms for NZ as there will be no local servers for us. Closest will be Singapore which is unplayable for an fps.

I bet they wont lable the game with any information in AU/NZ they will probably still sell heaps even though being MP only its effectively pointless here.

That sucks. Dont understand that as I would think ms has a decent market there. Might not be MS though but EA.

Let's be perfectly honest here, you can play the game with 120-220ms. It might not be super competitive, but it is certainly playable.

120 is playable, 220 really isn't which is what the NZ'ers will get to Singapore. Well 5000ms is playable (game will actually work) but I guess definitions vary. 220 in a fast paced fps is terrible.

If my ping was anywhere close to that I wouldn't touch the game. Not even worth bothering IMO.

Sure the game will connect and let you move but you would be wasting space on the team.

I've played Dota and HoN with plenty of people from AUS and NZ that all average 200+ ping. You get used to it.

I can't read the article, but the title says they won't have servers AT launch. That doesn't mean they won't eventually, so playing on a high ping for awhile might be the price you pay for being an early adopter until they get a server or two in AUS.

I guess you are not old enough to have player FPS online with a dial-up or early BB?

I never played Doom or Quake 1/2 on anything outside a LAN. When I started playing UT and Q3 I had DSL. When I was playing I never picked any servers that were that high in ping.

yeah games like dota and hon are fine FPS are a whole different story with 200+ ms.

Also dial-up was fine I played tribes for years on 56k but then so was eevryone else so level playing field. its no fun dying and then seeing the guy who shot you come around the cnr after you have already actually been shot.

It is because MS have no Azure cloud servers in Oceania at all. They say they should have some up by Christmas or early next year.

sounds like a neutral plan honestly. $100.00 for what is essentially a bluray player/ROKU....is a pretty meh' deal.

What is microsoft going to do with all these ps3s? I'm sure they aren't in the business of reselling used hardware?

Looks like to get the maximum value you have to purchase the x1 at the same time you trade-in the ps3. Since I already own the x1, I would only do this if I could get $100 store credit toward x1 games/accessories.

Regarding PING, keep in mind that games (I hope current ones do this) use algorithms to predict player locations. This helped alleviate some of the 100 ms pings. Sure 10 ms is better ,but games should be doing predictive positioning to reduce the likelihood of issues.

Maybe they have have a deal with GameStop to take some? Could also donate some and take a tax deduction.

Buying the XB1 is the point though. It sure looks like MS concedes that they are losing, and taking steps to rectify that.

A new model PS3 (500GB super slim) is $100 trade in at GameStop. If this is for all PS3s, it isn't a horrible deal. Otherwise, lukewarm. A 250GB slim in good condition is $75 at BestBuy; I couldn't find the newest model, so maybe this is a decent deal.

Just makes it easy to get $100 off and buy on the spot. Never said it was some sweet deal.

well, the ad implies it is a sweet deal. but i dont think anyone in consumer base is taking it as such except maybe kids with a ps3/360 who can now use this to pester mom n dad on upgrading. so without any research, they may fall for the meh deal

Ah I didn't read the whole thing, just found the first article that mentioned it after I heard about it. My bad.

There is predictive lag code, but there is a disadvantage around 120ms+ vs 50ms. You can still overcome it with skill of course.

Back in my hayday, there was a major difference between 40ms and 20ms in quake 2 rocket arena for me - pure domination at 20ms. The more skill you have the more it shows up at lower ping, everyone can look mediocre at higher pings. I used to say I could tell a difference whenever you doubled the ping (10ms, 20ms, 40ms, 80, etc).

I could never game on console's inferior FPS control settings, I always get owned on analog sticks.

Anyone find info about MS releasing the update that enables Dolby surround thru the optical audio port? I just bought a set of turtle beach X42's from GameStop today for $90 and I'm stuck using stereo sound thru the optical port. I really like the headphones but having surround would be ideal. Can't believe they didn't push that update yet

And the nice thing about client side prediction when you have 200 ms is that it is always wrong.

I can't remember if it was dreamcast or the original Xbox, but one of them supported 56K play. So some people were on 56K vs people who had cable/DSL, no fighting chance.

Secondly I think Q3 on Dreamcast or XBOX allowed you to play against PC players on some shared maps, that was unfair, lol.

I bought my PS3 in November from a guy who was about to trade it into Bestbuy at $100 and I intercepted and bought it from him instead. I can still sell it for more than that on Craigslist, but a lot of people (including me frankly) hate craigslist, so $100 all said and done is not terrible.
