cmdrdredd I agree, I never said it was easy but having something on both last generation consoles (whether available at their launch or not) and then making a new console and leaving out what I do believe is something that is a standard now is just crazy (Xbox One is able to do it is it not? also OUYA can stream, My last 3 TV's have been able to stream from PC...) .

Being hard to implement something shouldn't mean you shouldn't do it if they are planning to implement it down the line then this is why i think it feels rushed as to me streaming/external hdd playback are pretty much the 2nd core mechanic after gaming.

Also when I said HTPC's couldn't play games sorry I was referring to they cant play the consoles games not games in general.

I don't doubt that both systems are rushed. At least on the software side. There's reports of the XB1 having issues with the OS and Xbox Live not functioning properly. All rumor of course. Insiders seem to indicate that the software of the XB1 is about 6 months behind and there will likely be a slew of updates as things rollout after launch. The initial gaming side should work though which is the most important thing.

Every launch is like that, for pretty much everything these days. Look at BF4. It launched without features that were in BF3 (such as server queues!). They will eventually patch them in sooner or later (hopefully sooner). But, the core game is there.

Same with both consoles I'm sure. Each will be missing some features they didn't have time to perfect and will be patched in later.

They added server queues but they don't work lol. Yeah it's true...every launch is a little rusty.

I don't feel like upgrading my gpu now to play bf4 so I'll play it on ps4 for the time being. I'll stick with it, I hope the ps plus online is better, and that the UI is smoother. To be honest it won't get much use until other games come out. Maybe knack will keep me busy. As for AC, I feel like I've play 3-4 assassins creed games then I've played them all.

Wait, why would you need to update your graphics card for BF4? A 7970 GHE is going to be able to run that game at least as well as the PS4, with the benefit of a keyboard and mouse (or, if you're really tied to a controller for some reason, you can use the PS4 controller with your PC natively). Why would online be smoother on the PS4 as opposed to a PC? None of that makes any sense at all.

-EDIT- According to these benchmarks, you'll easily be above 60 FPS at 1080P with a mixture of High and Ultra settings.

The patch to enable blu-ray will be available, as well. If they wanted to screw people and only use the online video store, they wouldn't have the patch immediately available. Are you really not paying attention, or just really looking for something to complain about?

That point was about Sony's priorities. The day one patch might also enable the video store, but it appears that was working long ago, just like the music streaming. Basic things like local media playback and DNLA should have been done long ago. They have been doing local media playback on all their consoles since the PS1, and they already did DNLA on the PS3.

Why would you buy a $400 (or $600, in the case of the PS3) for a media center? You could easily put together a HTPC for that. And an HTPC would be a much more capable media center.

I already have an HTPC, but the PS3 is better in many regards. Netflix, Amazon and Youtube are better integrated. The only reason I still use the htpc is because I like the 30 sec fast forward, 5 second back feature, which is good for porn. Dont judge me. Anyways, I use the PS3 for blu ray (3D) and most online streaming services. The only problem I have with the PS3 is its become increasing loud over the years, and cleaning it out hasn't helped. So its worth $400 to me to get a better version of the PS3 that will play the next Uncharted, HSG, Infamous, etc. I bought the PS3 at launch, and it was $600 before tax. If I was concerned about the cost I wouldnt buy anything and save up for more important things. If something is useful I have no problem spending the money, as long as I feel I will get my money's worth. Initially, I dont think I will with the PS4. 6 months from now I might think differently, but that doesnt mean I need it now.

On a different OS that did not have dedicated network chips. Again, I'm gonna keep repeating it...gaming features were priority.

I agree. I like the PS3 as a general BR/media device. I tried the HTPC thing but it's a serious pain to get setup. Scripts, addons..etc. screw that, I couldn't make it work how I wanted and what I did get was something that served to confuse the wife. WMC seemed to be the best and simplest solution but it limits what you can do which defeats the purpose imo.

I think people expect more from a console these days. They laid the foundation for that expectation in the current generation of consoles. If I cancel my preorder, I will get one when they get around to adding the features that are important to me, or release games I want to play. Right now, it appears the PS4 does neither. I'm not saying it wont eventually get there, but we are talking about a preorder.

Yeah I should be fine at ultra settings just not so much msaa and post aa. I'll probably grab it tomorrow and let it download while I'm at work.

Not gonna lie I found some cd's in my car that I listened to in my way from work. They were under the seat for a while. But I haven't burned a CD since 2007 to be honest.

New cars and radios don't have CD players by default sometimes. It is an extra option.

Wow so all of a sudden the PS4 feels REALLY REALLY rushed to me... this is saddening big time for me 🙁

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/ps4-faq-features-limitations,news-17797.html

- No mp3 support
- No External HDD's
- No Streaming From PC's..... WTF SONY?????
- Video Recording is pretty average compared to what I kinda thought it was, also does the MS one let you chop/change/edit your video then overlay yourself talkign to make help videos etc? no youtube?

The PS3 could do all of these, except the recording bit. Surrey their new mantra of being a "gaming focused console" didn't take it this far to go backwards with pretty standard functionality.

I have both PS4 and Xbox pre-ordered but this is really pretty shit, I mean looking at the 2 compared now if the graphics wasnt stronger on the PS4 the XBOX would be the easy choice?

This all looks like it could be stuff that gets patched in later which makes me think they are rushed.

I say give it time and some updates and Sony to get feedback..etc. PS3 added a ton of features and changes since it's initial release, they always get better over time.
I think it will be a year before these consoles really take off anyway and by then we'll have some good firmware updates, tweaks and some games.

I wonder what format their stuff will play in..acc or what? Doesn't Sony have their own encoding for audio. I forgot what it's called.

Altrac? I dont think it will matter to end users since its streaming, or can you buy tracks from their service and save locally? It would need to be able to use on phones as well, or it'll end up like altrac.

Atrac. What marketing genius at Sony thought naming a music technology a homophone of "8 Track" was a good idea in the digital age? It was a good technology too, but Sony always shoots themselves in the foot when it comes to proprietary formats.

Hmm... I don't like Sony taking away htpc capabilities, but the more I think about it I just don't care. I don't use my ps3 for that at all because it wasn't supported, so I already use my Roku box for all that. I'd rather them not bother than half ass it like on the ps3.

Because it is no longer 2002? Who buys CDs anymore?

I do, heck ive purchased 8 in the past 6 months

i will not pay money for lossy quality

I will download FLAC off bandcamp when they have something i want

I prob have 200 CDs in my car in a giant binder (all burned) i actually burnt a new one for the car this morning. Car is a 2005 and has no aux port, has an indash 6 disk changer (stock) that works fine
