I think he should go back and rewatch Toy Story 1. Even with high end video cards, to render that in real time takes a lot of power. Pixar has a rendering FARM, not a couple PCs.

The per frame post processing alone would kill a typical video card in real time. One character model probably still has more vertices than a typical PC game level. Most of the PC stuff just looks close enough because it's low res and they cheat with normal maps and stuff trying to simulate Pixar quality with hacks. And the offline lighting algorithms? Forget it. Vertex lighting, light maps, and stenciled shadow volumes are cheap cruddy inaccurate real time hacks for consumer toys and need not apply in the world of ray traced CGI. Where games use crappy environment maps to simulate reflections, CGI is actually reflecting and refracting the entire scene per pixel, not just simulating it with a texture. etc etc etc

But I think a high end PC with quad SLI Titans could come damn close to LOOKING the same. Maybe.

A $399 toy with a 5 year old GPU? Pftt.

So, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to try out remote play while over cellular. I connected it through my phone's LTE, and Resogun was actually fairly playable. I did notice a slight bit of lag between when I moved the Vita's joystick and the ship moved/fired, but I think it was manageable enough to not die in most situations. It is good to note that I have pretty low ping on Verizon LTE (~40-50ms).

I also tried it with tethering to my phone and with my power LTE reception at home, I was still able to play without much lag.

I haven't tried using Remote Play over the internet as I'm still stuck with 1mbps uploads at home. Price I pay for my unlimited transfer. Yay me. :p

Anybody tried this with a 3G enabled Vita? IIRC, Sony said it wouldn't work.

You need to connect to the same WiFi network as your PS4 is on. 3G isn't wifi. When people are talking about LTE they are setting up their phone as a hotspot and connecting their PS4 and Vita to it.

I have the 3G Vita, but I don't have AT&T anymore to try it that way.

Your first and second statements don't work with each other as I cannot be on the same WiFi network as the PS4 if I'm connected through my phone's WiFi hotspot.

You do not need to be on the same WiFi network as your PS4. If it fails to find the PS4 on your current WiFi network, it will search beyond it. Whether the device is restricted programmatically to only use WiFi is something that I don't know.

If you connect both to your Phone's hotspot you have both systems on the same wifi network. You connect to your phone via wifi and use the LTE to access the internet.

Describe how you connected these because from what I'm understanding it's simply using your phone as the hub or router. What am I missing in the details of how you had these setup?

New rumor based off of Sony's new PS4 commercial. A sign looks like crash Bandicoot with an arrow pointing to the SCE logo. Activision who has the rights to the Crash Bandicoot character etc has removed all references to it from their site. The rumor is that Crash may have been purchased by Sony for use in a new game. Would be cool for sure to see Naughty Dog back at it with Crash but it's a stretch.

That's not what I did. My PS4 was suspended at home while I was out. I connected my Vita to my phone's hotspot, and then just told it to use remote play. It first attempts to find the PS4 locally, which will fail for obvious reasons. After that, it tries to find it over the Internet. Once it finds the device, it will go through the exact same process that it does for internal WiFi sharing.

That's why I mentioned my LTE connection's low latency. It's actually really nice if I ever want to remote into my desktop using Splashtop. I did that using my LTE-equipped iPad to show my friend Hearthstone.

So I port forwarded all the ports possible for the ps4 in my router. On my phone on WiFi I get like 16mb download and 8mb up. But on the ps4 connection test I get 3mb download and 2mb up. Weird. It should not be this slow.

I see...that's interesting because it's not supposed to work lol. Cool though

Is it the same when you are wired? I haven't honestly tried wifi myself. I'll see what happens when I do rq.

wired: 45/8
wireless: 30/5

So I dunno. I use a Netgear Wireless N router running DD-WRT firmware.

I checked and I had like 9mbps, about right for peak usage but it was very slow. I thought the ps3 was very fast. Figured with wireless n the ps4 would be a bit faster.

I have no way to wire it to my router as it's too far. Pretty much just a room and half away but I can't drill holes in this apartment. If I do a speed test on my pc I get about 28mb up and 16 up. I have a Cisco e1200 router and it's an n router too. For some reason everything was faster on the ps3.

I wonder if I remove the port forwarding and set it to dmz if anything will change.

Do you have a way to monitor the bandwidth usage in real time on your router? Try downloading a PS4 demo and watching that screen and see what is going on if you can. Maybe it's not slow but spiking up and down a lot causing it to appear slow.

I've done a search to see if anyone had a solution elsewhere and this has been mentioned a bit, slow Wifi that is. It seems like some routers aren't communicating well with the PS4 or whatever software it uses for making the handshake for wireless connectivity. So far there doesn't appear to be any common patterns (type of router or brand etc). It affects people randomly. I wonder if my custom firmware on my router helps any at all.

No I don't have any software to monitor it in real time. If you know of any I can try it. I tried downloading dc universe but it's 20gb with a 5gb update file. Said it would tale 7 hours to finish for each one. There is no download Que so they both fight for the resource I suppose.

I've read about this all over the Sony forums and many people are having issues. I was about to buy another router but the one I use now is fine for everything else. I too wonder if it's a ps4 WiFi card issue with the driver or something related to each person's router.

I remember a 450mb update for ps3 literally took only 3-4 minutes, 5 at the most.

Some routers can monitor the bandwidth in and out. Custom firmware like Tomato and DD-WRT has this built in but I don't think there's a program to monitor router traffic the same way.

It is strange that it doesn't seem to affect everyone.

Maybe the problem is you're looking for a "que" when you're really after a queue.

Ah stupid auto correct. I need to reset this phones learned words. Happens often. Although I do wish they had some sort of download management like the ps3 did.

Also to anyone changing the ps4 hard drive, careful because not all models will work. I got the travel star model and that one is fine. The Samsung spinpoint m8 1tb drive is incompatible. Make sure you line up the holes correctly when screwing in the hard drive, you don't need to slide it in the cage all the way to the end. The PlayStation screw is also a decent one, the one that screws the cage in..but the threads in the bracket that hold it in are not so good. They seem to strip easily if you put the screw in and out too many times. I've gotten mine screwed in twice and it will hold it tight but does not screw to a complete stop.

I'm not sure I'm reading your posts correctly, but you know you can check connection speed in the ps3/4s settings, right?

I can also verify this. My coworker tried remote play in our office, and it worked surprisingly well. Perhaps just a bit too much latency for a FPS, but the only real "issue" was the video compression due to our slow Wi-Fi network.

So I port forwarded all the ports possible for the ps4 in my router. On my phone on WiFi I get like 16mb download and 8mb up. But on the ps4 connection test I get 3mb download and 2mb up. Weird. It should not be this slow.

Similar situation, I only get about 9/2 on a 55 down connection (I forget the upstream speed). However, I still pull about 6-7MB/s in downloads, much like Steam.
