The lack of DNLA will most likely cancel my preorder. I really just wanted the PS4 to replace my PS3, which does DNLA, Youtube, Amazon, Netflix, etc. Might as well just keep the PS3, or buy a slim version to deal with the noise. Any future PS4 games I was thinking about playing like Naughty Dog games I guess I can just watch on Youtube. I will wait a week or two to see if they change their stance on this.

Yeah I think this is the last nail in the coffin. I would have waited for first price cuts anyway but now, I don't even now were I should but that thing. The idea was that it will replace my current media player but that won't happen now. I think all my money will go into PC gaming especially because this looks like again Sony trying to lure users to their paid services. I mean this thing is basically a low-end PC and could very easily offer these features.

Seriously... Who cares about a day one patch? You get the system, download/install for a few minutes, and then enjoy the system for years to come.
The patch will be completely forgotten about within minutes of turning on the system.

You guys are really searching for things to complain about.

Just opened my PS4 controller up. Initial impressions are that it feels slightly better than the PS3 dual shock, triggers are greatly improved, feels a little cheaper than the PS3 DS, much cheaper than the XB360 controller. I also notice areas that feel unfinished like the seam on the grips and the trigger buttons are cheap and open a huge gap. The textured grip also doesn't add much to the feel.

Overall, I still like the feel of the 360 controller the best and the PS4 is still too light.

PS3 DS 181 grams
PS4 212 grams
XB360 with batteries 272 grams
I agree with pretty much everything you said, except that I don't think it feel cheaper than the PS3 controller... I think it feels better in every single way (build, weight, triggers, sticks, etc.)

Still, the Xbox 360 controller stands at the top of the Best Game Controller Ever list. It looks like the Xbone controller may take that spot, though.

Yeah that lack of DLNA / MP3 support is baffling and downright stupid. The main reason I use my current PS3 is precisely to stream music and media files over gigabit; I hardly ever play games on it, but it works great as a blu-ray player / video and audio streamer.

The main reason I was originally going to get a PS4 was to stream 4k content when it became available. Oh well looks like I won't be buying a PS4.

The lack of DLNA kind of sucks, just about everything has DLNA support now, even Android devices.

I love the weight. That's probably my biggest issue with the PS3 controller, is how light it is.

I like the light weight of the PS3 controller myself. It's odd how people want light tablets and such, actually almost everything they would prefer to be light weight, but a controller that you hold for hours and some want it heavy
lol. Does no one else find that weird?

Too light and it feels like it will break to me. I like to feel a little heft myself but not a lot. With tablets etc they are awkward to hold so they should be light to avoid discomfort.

Again...they want the focus on games period. It isn't baffling at all. They don't want to toss media features in when voice chat is buggy or have it stream music when they don't have the game store running. It isn't that difficult to see what the focus is.

It is really not. These are video game consoles. Didn't you guys get up in arms when MS said the xb1 would do TV and all that and said "hey it is supposed to be about games" now it is totally the opposite. There are other products including PC that can do the streaming. Hell a cheap used ps3 will be fine along side the ps4.

I'm not aware of the x1 needed a day one patch to enable major functionality like this. Care to provide a link?

Not having major features like Blurays playback available at launch is a HUGE omission IMHO. If MSFT did this you would be reaming them and you know it. The fact is Sony's software execution has always been inferior. I have no confidence that they can deliver a next-gen software experience and I'm not surprised they had to cut so many basic features from launch. Obviously the hardware is top notch and can deliver great graphics but that is NOT what is going to win this next generation of console wars.

Next-gen is going to be all about integration. Right now MSFT has way more to offer me than Sony. It is the only box on the planet that can truly replace every device in my home and provide an experience that outclasses or matches them all.

Blu-ray playback is available at launch...download the patch. My god people

I'll say what everybody was saying back in June about the X1....what about military people who don't have access to an internet connection? Or people in rural parts without broadband?

Amazing how the table has flipped. Sony is just as big a fuck-up as Microsoft.

You can get a disc from Sony. Not ideal, but doesn't require internet.

The difference is, you don't need to be online to play games. If you are doing media streaming you will be on a network anyway.

what does streaming have to do with playing blurays?

but i agree, this day1 patch is a non-issue. it's just that people on this forum love to argue for the sake of arguing, and we're all excited/anxious about new consoles coming out in 2-3 weeks and just wanna talk games!

Sony will ship a patch disc to anyone who does not want to connect to the internet and download the patch.

Nothing but you can order a disk from Sony too if you really want. Seriously though everyone wanted games from MS before and moaned about the TV and NFL talk etc. Now they suddenly don't care about games with these systems? I don't buy it. Realistically most people have a device that can do these things already. I have a stand alone blu-ray player that can.

It's not that I don't care about games, I do I was disappointed watchdogs was pushed back. I was expecting the ps4 would not change in regards to the media streaming. It's like it was a no brainer feature since even my phone can be placed on my network and stream wirelessly to my tv.

Just odd I suppose, that's all. Are most blu ray players able to do connect to the network and act as a media server now? I don't own one except for the ps3.

I dunno about server but there are many now that can stream video from my PC. I have a Samsung I paid about $50 for that does.

Well that's fine and dandy. A X1 user can just go somewhere that has internet and perform the update. The point is that MS got hell over somewhat similar shenanigans and now that Sony is doing the same type of stuff, they get a pass.

Focus? They shouldn't have to focus much work to get something running that they already had perfected in the playstation 3. That's something that should have been planned to be put in from the get-go. It shows a lack of foresight and a money grab to push their own music store.

The lack of DLNA / MP3 streaming is literally a make it or break it concern for me and I will not be buying a PS4 until they make that a feature.

Microsoft got a lot of flak because they first stated that you had to always be connected, but then later stated that you only had to "check in" once every 24 hours. That is not the same as requiring a patch for non-gaming functionality.

Yeesh, you people sure do enjoy stirring the goddamn pot in the most nonsensical ways. Just flippin' relax, and you'll have your console in about 2 and/or 3 weeks! :|

Yep and I can't wait. My ps3 is fine as a media box.
