God I'm loving KI... its all I have been playing, havent even cranked up nba 2k14 or fifa yet.

i failed at modding my joystick. i ruined an x1 controller pcb. i think it's just because my soldering iron is so old or something. on it's lowest setting it was peeling off some of the pads for the face buttons.

looks like no joystick for me until monday for ki! sabrewulf is going to be my player all weekend because he is a "charge" character so no qc motions needed.
 
heard from 2 guys who are in my local tournament scene and hardcore into fighters, that the online play in this game is RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME! they both said that they literally forgot that they were playing online while playing it.

and these guys are REALLY picky about online play and rarely played sf4 online because of the "lag". they really only played in local meetups. i cannot wait to get some in tonight, although playing on the pad is gonna be a blower.
 
I am so bad with a controller.

yeah man like the dpad is better than 360, but it still sucks for fighting games. and i don't even think it is just that, it's the buttons. the shoulder buttons just don't feel right in a fighter, and the face buttons are huge on the x1 controller that they feel so close together.

Yeah I agree, serviceable in general but for KI it's kind of bad.
 
I'm actually playing with the analogue stick and doing really well now after battling through for a few hours. The multiplayer is buttery smooth, I was playing while downloading fifa with 0 issues.
 
I think I will try Sabrewolf or another charge character. After about an hour with Jago, I am pretty much convinced I go like 3/10 for SRK motion. Closer to 6/10 on fireball though.
 
yeah man the pad is just garbage for this game. i have to use the analog when i play jago but i miss a lot of moves still, but when i use sabrewulf i use the dpad. i jump on accident a lot when using the analog stick too.

i got to the last dojo challenge and there is no way in hell i can do that with the pad so i am waiting to get my joystick to finish that part of the game though. dojo is pretty damn awesome though, very informative.

I went through a few more dojo tutorials this morning and I understand the combo system much better. My problems right now is doing enders to get the max damage possible, otherwise the combo is somewhat wasted.

Question about combos in general. During the normal parts of the fight, you really don't have much of a combo bar to fit moves into, so you have to end it fairly early. How are you able to pull off 50+ ultras? Does it give you more time to fit in moves towards the end of the match?

if you can play with the dpad then good for you heh. i'm using the analog for everyone except sabrewulf. when using the analog though i'm jumping randomly because i hit an angle up when going left/right sometimes. i also miss a ton of special moves.

i got to dojo 32 and i just could not finish the combos with the controller so i stopped. ill finish it when i have my joystick tomorrow.

as far as the combos being long, there are some concepts that you have to understand to make em longer, which they go over in the dojo a bit but you may not have gotten to those yet.

when you use a heavy auto-double, it fills up less kv meter. heavy's are riskier to use because they are easier to react to and break, but they do the most (potential) damage and make the kv meter go up less. if you use a light autodouble, they are harder to break because they are so fast, but they do less damage and make the kv meter go up much quicker.

then you have linkers. same concept kind of except i'm the kv meter doesn't go up. i know for shadow linkers it doesn't go up at least, can't really remember for normal linkers but i don't think it does either. but if you do a light linker, it is only 1 hit and harder to break, doing least amount of damage. if you do the heavy linker (by pressing the medium button and holding it), you get 3 hits in the linker, doing more damage but easier to break.

so basically, you get the most damage and most hits out of using all heavy attacks in the combo. you should mess aroudn in training mode to see how it works and you can see how many more hits you can get comparing a heavy and light combo, using the same linkers and enders.

but yeah, the whole "cash in" thing is how you get the damage. it really adds to the risk/reward of combos. the longer you go and heavier you go, the more likely you are to get broken and lose the potential damage. that is why whenever you see someone in lockout, it's best to start using shadow linkers and heavy auto doubles because they have no chance of breaking them at that point.
 
I don't feel comfortable using analog triggers for moves. The dpad is ok but it is a little clicky for my tastes.


Just got word that my stick shipped from GameStop. Should have it before the week is out if all goes well. I will check the tracking again tomorrow when it updates but so far it is scheduled for Wednesday.

Love KI so much, probably spent 20 hours playing since Friday 🙂 Its all so well put together, great job by double helix.

I only have 3 gripes:
*Achievement's don't seem to be track-able, i.e. to unlock certain skins you need 50 ranked wins with a certain char etc but it doesn't tell you anywhere that you are currently 35/50 wins.

*The "premium packs in the KI store don't discount if you have purchased the lower ones. I bought the $20 version but then decided I wish I bought the $40 one and got the skins. I thought I read somewhere that in this case you could pay the difference to upgrade your pack but its not the case, it wants to charge me $40 for the skins still. 🙁

*Sadira is OP imo, everyone else seems really well balanced but she is way to strong. I have spent a lot of time with Glacius/Jago/Sabrewulf and I seem to sit around rank 7 with them, its just where I seem to fit currently but with her I get to 8-9 and I don't even feel in control its just that her wakeup is almost impossible to stop. hvy punch web wake up in the air and if they dont block you are into combo if they do block due to the block stun from the web you get first hit and you med kick is a really quick overhead then low move which almost always lands as its hard to block. Seriously I have used it to almost perfect a bunch of fights and had it used on me constantly as well its all anyone does with her as its just stupid.

Yeah sadira is annoying and to be honest feels terribly unbalanced compared to the other characters. I thought it was just me.
 
Also nfi why but the KI store was way more expensive here.

The $20 pack for me is $26 and the $40 is $56. But the USD to NZD exchange rate currently puts $40USD as $48 NZD so nfi where the extra $8 comes in. No biggy just seems weird that the pricing is all wonky, I understand we pay more for retail games but having a premium on digital seems dumb.
 
hmm i haven't ran into anyone who knows what they are doing with sadira. i think it's way too early to say someone is not balanced, especially considering she is a totally new archetype.

larnz for your first gripe, i think you can track that stuff under the one option that lets you look at your progress. i thought when it shows the titles it has meters and stuff that show you where you are in the progress.
 
Nah it does for other games like AC4 in the achievements area, but not on the Ki ones they seem to be either unlocked or in progress but doesn't say where you are in that achievement that I can tell.

well i know it doesn't say specifically for that achievement, but it keeps a tally of a lot of other stuff, so it might show you how many fights you've won with them and what not.
