So there have been a ton of leaks, and if that's what we're actually getting I'm kind of unimpressed. I'm updating only because I can, but just a few more pixels in the vertical direction was not what I was looking for. 🙁 I wanted a big screen increase, like 4.2-4.5". Ah well.
 
One of the things that I'm hoping for in addition to LTE is more memory (1GB+). Additional memory isn't a huge deal for most things, but it's nice mostly for web browsing.
 
128GB of flash memory built in would rock, but won't happen. The leaked photos make the thing look awful...like an iPhone 4 on viagra. But we'll see how it fits in my pocket, and feels in the hand.

Ditto on all points, except I dont care how little or much storage it has, I always use like 2-3 gigs of the 16gb available heh.

I have enough on my phone (and I use my Zune as my PMP) that I've got 10GB on it. I have 50+GB of music on my zune. Hence why I want 128GB of space 🙂
 
I don't see why people are so quick to rule out 128GB. It would be class leading, NAND pricing has dropped dramatically recently, and the phone is growing.

I'd love to see the 3GS go away, an 8GB 4 becomes free on contract, a 16GB 4S for $99, and 32/64/128 5 for 199/299/399 on contract.
 
I really hope it's not just taller, that would look wrong.

I would like it to increase in width as well. If not, I might just upgrade to a 4S and hope they figure out a better size later.

I doubt it will happen. NAND pricing isn't THAT cheap yet. A 128GB would be at least $500 on contract. As for the phone size, doesn't matter so much. NAND is serial.
 
Am I alone in thinking having an IR blaster and finger printer scanner would be kind of nice? I realize I'm probably in a smaller subset of people but I would use my iPhone as a Harmony replacement remote if I could since my old model is crapping out anyway. I could see a finger printer scanner (or even better a iris scanner) useful for unlocking and for payment verification.

I realize finger printer scanners are somewhat easy to trick if someone is determined enough though but can't be any more "risky" then a 4 digit pin.
 
when is the official announcement supposed to be?

can you all link to some of these rumors as well? just been totally out of the loop. i'm up for upgrade in early october so i may end up grabbing one.

I recently got a Samsung Tab 2 7" and at first thought the IR would be meh but once I set up my tv and cable box on it I love it. A TV guide mnu comes up and I can find a program, click one button and the system changes to it. I can even do DVR stuff with it. Pretty cool.
 
I'm due for an upgrade from my 4 but I'll wait it out until Oct/Nov to see if its something I really want, I'm done upgrading just for the sake of it.
 
The only way that we'll probably get 128GB in an iPhone is if we get 128GB in an iPad. Apple saves money by using parts across the devices, which means the NAND would be used in both devices. The only thing that I can't remember is whether the iPad uses four NAND chips or two like the iPhone/iPod Touch.

I wouldn't mind extra space either. Although, when I switched back to my 3GS to allow me to sell my 4S (a rather jarring experience by the way!), I parred down by phone's apps quite a bit. I'm using far more data in music right now than I am apps (11GB in music, ~6GB in apps).

Horizontal resolution is staying the same at 640 pixels; vertical resolution is going up to 1136 pixels, a gain of 176 pixels.

The display itself is only getting taller, not wider.
 
I hope Apple found a way to make the new phone a little bit thinner. I am guessing that by stretching it out a some this will be the case. I am quite happy with my 4S but that thing is a brick compared to almost every other phone out right now. A better battery would be a plus as well.

I'm mostly curious about the camera. I'd imagine they'll be bumping it up to 12 megapixels, but I'm more interested in the video capabilities. I don't know what else they would do (it's already 1080p), but I'm hoping they'll improve even further.

One thing I would really like is software control of the focus, so that third-party video programs can do focus control instead of only doing focus via tap-to-focus. Then you can do neat focus tricks like rack focus with it.
 
the leaked pics/mockups of a taller phone look strange, it could just be because everyone is used to the iphone shape, but its aspect ratio just seems odd to me
