I woke up at like 4:15 and was disappointed because the shipping dates were pushed back.

But, I just ordered off At&T's Site about 20 minutes ago and they were still saying the 21st.

Set my alarm and got my preorder in. The site wasn't even working. Had to use the Apple Store app.

Preorders pushed only after an hr. The 4S took 22 hrs to do the same.

Does anyone know if I can "upgrade" on AT&T without 1. losing my grandfathered unlimited data (I assume 3g and LTE will be treated differently - or am I wrong?) and 2. without agreeing a 2 year commitment? I have not upgraded my phone in 3 years and I am off-contract. If not, I'll just do a family plan on verizon.

On AT&T you will keep your unlimited data with an upgrade, but it will extend your contract so you will no longer be month to month.

Still contemplating getting one out of contract. Looks like the iPhone 4S 64 GB factory unlocked is going for 500 on ebay. Would be easy to subsidize the phone...

I ordered one off of apple's site an hour after pre-orders went up but I changed it to ATT at like 7am and it was still saying it'll be here on 21st so I'm hoping they don't push it back.

If you pay full price it's no commitment, not sure about the grandfathered plan though.

I really wouldn't. You'd basically be throwing $500 down the toilet if you tried to sell the phone in a year.

Just remember your "unlimited" plan is really "slower than carrier pigeons" after 5GB.

When you go to upgrade, it does remove the "Unlimited plan for iPhone" but it replaces it with 'Unlimited data plan for 4G LTE iPhone".

But, yes, in order to get it for $199, you'll need to sign a new two-year agreement.

If you don't mind selling stuff you could easily sell the ip5 when your upgrade comes around and you'd probably get $500 for it if you have the 64Gb one.

I usually go between 2-3gb, so that's not an issue. I just don't want to lose unlimited. It gives me some degree of personal satisfaction to watch AT&T beg me to change my plan.

I'll just buy it off contract when a nice check comes in. Thanks.

If I sold my 4S, i would get the 32 GB iP5. After taxes its ~830. So it would be $300 out of pocket if I sold my 4S for $500. I am guessing I could sell the 5 for ~$300 in a year. I sold my 32GB iP4 in a day for $300.

It is tempting but I dont think I am going to pull the trigger just yet

wouldn't you be better off having a backup phone and then selling the iPhone before the new launch?

I sold my iPad 2 for $400 a week before the iPad 3 came out. And it was a refurb model I bought for $420 lol...

Same here. I had one tab open that continued to show the "we're coming back soon" message. I hit F5 and Ctrl+F5 repeatedly, even closed-and-reopened the tab repeatedly, and it wouldn't go away. Opened an incognito tab after I checked-out from the iOS app and the page loaded fine in my incognito tab...while the normal tabs still kept showing the "we'll be back" message.

Ugh.

I used to feel that way, so I understand. At this point, the 6GB share plan is a wash cost-wise and I get FT over the cellular without jail breaking, personal hot spot and I can throw my ipad on it for $10 and that will save me about $20 a month. There's usually only one month a year we go over 6GB combined.

I'm still basically on the fence between this and the GS3. I thought about buying a GS3 this weekend, trying it out, then paying the restock if I just can't handle the screen size and going with the 5. One of the main reasons I'm thinking about the 5 is because my upgrade scheme is that I basically upgrade every year and the gf will get my old phone. She'd get my 4S this year and I know there is no way she will ever take a device the size of the GS3 from me next year so that will be something else to deal with.

Buying a phone shouldn't be this hard. :)

I don't know if I should buy iPhone 5 or used iPhone 4s. 2-3 weeks shipping time on iP5 is pissing me off. I don't want the iPhone but I know my wife will like it. We're on Straight Talk so I would have to sign a contract with AT&T to get the phones. I don't want to sign the contract but if it will make my wife happy, I will. If I buy iP4s for her, I can stay on Straight Talk which I would prefer. But I know the wife will like the new iP5 over used iP4s. She claims otherwise but I know her. But if I buy iP5, I would pay more for AT&T service for 2 years, wait 2-3 weeks for the phone, and have to deal with the hassle of selling one of the iP5 as I do not want the device. I'm perfectly happy with my Galaxy Nexus. Ugh. My heart says make the wife happy and get her the iP5. My brain and wallet is saying get her used iP4s to use on Straight Talk.

Go to costco. No restock.

:| Gave in and ordered two. 16gb white and 16gb black from AT&T. Haven't told the wife. It will be surprise for her. She can take whichever color she wants. Strangely enough, the email confirmation from AT&T shows the phone will arrive on 9/21. I'm keeping my fingers crossed 9/21 date is correct. Maybe AT&T is favoring new customers and sending it to them first. I can only hope.

I would do it. Why not? You sell it for 450-500, buy one cash unsubsidized and just pay a tad extra.
It's what makes the world go round for us compulsive geeks.

When I looked up iPhone 4S prices, the only ones going for $500 looked a bit fishy. The guy's phone was in good condition but came with nothing. Only two people appeared to bid on it, but the same guy multiple times to bring it up to $500. I found one that looked like it had far more legitimate bids, and it was only ~$375.

I trade mine into Amazon for $500 in Amazon credit. Other than it refusing to print the label (I ended up paying $15 to ship it myself), it was pretty painless. I shipped it on Tuesday and they gave me the money today.

Hmm I keep wanting to check Verizon's site to ensure that my pre-order is set for the 21st, but their order checker keeps saying that its down due to technical difficulties. :(

It could be because I saved two in the online shopping cart in morning around 8am. I didn't have time to finish the transaction because I needed to leave for work and wanted to think about it so I saved the cart. At that time orders were showing 9/21.
