Dang.. is that your pic of yours? I can still see tiny bit of light bleed from the left side but still, hardly noticeable. This is at 100% brightness right? If so, you sure got the golden one.

Yep. That's mine. 100% brightness in complete darkness. Taken with my iPhone 4. It's actually brighter than in reality. The new screen is not that bright. I think it's about as bright as my iPhone 4 at most.

Anyway, I can confirm reports about heat. The new iPad gets warm pretty fast.

A good upside is that I have only wasted 15% battery in 2 hours, so I believe I can get some pretty good battery life out of this.

May swap mine out. I'll have to see how it looks at night

That further proves that the black levels has clearly improved. So not only did Apple quadruple the display resolutions but they also improved the black levels. Sounds like a winner, minus taking risk of getting dud ones...

Mine just got crazy hot playing Infinity Blade 2. Seriously had to move it from my chest or I would have been burned. Ugh. I'll have a leather case this weekend but maybe it shouldn't be getting this hot?

yeah the screen quality went downhill with ipad2. ipad1 and hp touchpad had great screens flawless. at least Apple store has tons in stock to swap out 🙂 lol

One thing I really noticed is how night and day better iphone apps are at 2x on this thing. Wow. Some major upscaling or processing going on there.

Yeah it is easy to swap out and they're good about it there, but it's such a freaking process to make an appointment then go to any apple store. And I always feel like im being a weird nerd when I exchange shit there that would probably easily pass for perfect for someone else.

^ Same here, which is why I stopped returning stuff... tired of exchanging shit and driving. Waste gas, waste my time, having to deal with sales rep, it's stupid...

I wouldn't mind it if Apple care specialist comes over to my house and bring a whole pallet of ipads for me to hand pick.... now that I don't mind. 😀 But I've seen so many people having to keep going back to Apple store for exchange only to get a worse one...

Looks like runawayprisoner is having good time with his iPad! it's gotta be fun weekend for him 🙂 Hehe I just got myself a "black" set of Audioengine A2 speakers yesterday and I'm jamming with this thing woohoo wee wee!

I definitely have a little backlight issue. It's only noticeable in the picture. I swear using the device you can't tell one bit. I'm amazed at the difference in comparing it to the human eye and what gets picked up on my camera's sensor. For reference, I'm using my iPhone 4S to take the picture.

Haha yeah cameras sometimes I exaggerate the clouding a lot. Sometimes they make it look not as bad too...but usually way worse.

It's amazing how much different it is. I mean, I can't notice a difference visually, but the camera apparently picks up so much worse. I'm definitely going to stick with this iPad. There's no reason for me to exchange it over a tiny bit of backlight that I can barely notice.

The thing is that if you are using the device as most do / the default (auto brightness or at least not 100% 24/7) you will almost never see any backlight bleed. In broad daylight the iPad screen will brighten, but it'll be too light out to see it and in the dark the screen will dim and won't bleed.

In other news, I am not seeing the heat just from using LTE that is being reported here and I've left wifi off entirely just so I can get a feel for how amazing AT&T LTE is (very amazing - speeds anywhere from 20Mbit/15 to 42Mbit/25 so far).

And for comparisons to the 2, it's not just the screen change, it's also a better camera, more ram (more simultaneous tabs loaded in safari without purging the other pages for example...), Bluetooth 4.0 for ultra low power Bluetooth devices (there was a car finding kickstarter project that uses it), and more. Don't get a 2.

went by my local target last night and they had about 5/6 16gb wifi's in stock... tempted lol.

I guess if I did bite and got a sh!tty screen I'd just go back and return..

I got mine yesterday, and I have probably spent $100 in apps already. This is my first ipad, so I had to search for what is out there.

Can anyone recommend a back cover that will fit this new ipad that is compatible with the apple smart cover? I thought about just diving in and buying the otterbox defender case for it, but I dont want to add that much bulk to it.

im a sucker....went to target and got one...saved me 5% off my 7% tax at least...

syncing now. will update with backlight pics! they only had white..oh well

I bought this, it should hopefully fit

anyone try using their old cases with the new?

it 'fits', a bit snugger of course, but the "smart" on/off feature seems to not be working, they must have moved the sensor/magnet?

Anyone know if the 802.11n in the 3 operates at 300Mbps or higher? Don't want to clog up my N traffic =\

I am dubious of back covers as any dust or grit that manages to get under it will simply be massaged into the aluminum over time. My feeling has always been that you wont do better than an Invisible Shield for the back.
