Decided to make an official thread for the new iPad. Do you guys use screen protectors for your iPads? Any case recommendations?

I don't use screen protectors because I've not found any that keep the smoothness of the glass intact.

I do like to use skins on the body, however.

As for cases, you really have to decide if you want a stand or not. If you don't want a stand, there are a ton of great TPU cases out there cheap that protect the body of the iPad. If you want a stand, you just have to decide how much bulk you want.

I put a screen protector on my iPad 1 after I dropped it and chipped a corner of the glass around the bezel. I used the Monoprice ones, along with their skins. Word to the wise, they're extremely difficult to apply without getting bubbles.

No screen protectors here, but have a Yoobao case, it's not the be all or end all of cases, and had to use some packing tape to get it to stay on once the flap lost it's stiffness, but for the price not bad.

powersupport antiglare is the best screen protector I've used, no glare, no fingerprints, smooth surface.

only downside is it kinda takes away some of the screen fidelity, doesn't look as vibrant.

alternative is the powersupport crystal, which is what i plan on getting for my new ipad.

Isn't that like $30 for one protector though? What if you mess up?

don't mess up then, you gotta pay for quality.

protip: if you get dust under the screen protector, get some scotch tape, lift up a corner, and apply the scotch tape to the dust particles on the sticky side.

No screen protector... no case... except for the Smart Cover. Practically naked for me.

And not a single scratch anywhere.

I am still baffled how some people could treat their tablets so poorly that they'd get scratches and dents on it. And it wasn't like I treated my iPad like the Lord. Perhaps try not to throw it around so much, or not to put it into a backpack full of big calculus books with pens and rulers and sharp objects all over?

I use Spigen (formerly SGP), and I always get the Ultra Crystal clear. At first, it's a sticky feeling, but after using it for a little, that wears off and feels almost precisely like glass. I'm thinking about getting one for my iPad just because. In the 4+ years I've had touchscreen devices, I've only got a scratch on one of them ever and that was an amazing freak accident due to the tiniest grain of sand. :l

I currently have a crystal clear on my iPhone, and you can't even tell it's on there. It feels the same and just is wonderful to touch. Definitely recommending it for the iPad.

I'm thinking I'm just going to get the smart cover along with the other user up there. I definitely won't be dropping it, and all I really want is a stand for it when I need to type and that seems more than sufficient for me.

I use an SGP screen protector on my iPad (1). Looks good, feels fine.

I will say that although I think the new iPad looks amazing, I think I am done buying iPads. I don't really use mine much - I always grab my 13" MBP instead. Next computer will be a 13" MBA, but since my MBP is still in nearly perfect shape after almost 3 years, it may be a while.

2-3 weeks for all of them now.

I'll get one when they're in stock at BestBuy.

That's what I told myself for iPad 2 and all retail stores were out within hours of getting them in stock. Far easier to order online and ship to work/home.

I don't use screen protectors because I can never get one to go on perfectly. There's always bubbles or tiny specks of dust trapped under it. When I bought my ipad 2 I also bought a $20 pack of screen protectors. All of which I threw away because I couldn't get them on exactly right. I guess that's a pretty ocd reason to not use them, but that's why.

Of course this has caused my ipad to manifest some scratches of varying severity. I have no fing clue how the screen got scratched, but there is a long gash that is visible with the screen on that drives me nuts. Even so, I don't see myself using a screen protector on my next tablet (probably ipad 4).

I got a cheap speck brand case from wal-mart that I still use. It serves it's purpose, but it's starting to get a bit dog-eared. My only recommendation in the case department is to get something that doesn't add much bulk to the ipad. You want it to remain as slim as possible for ease of use.

My iPad2 has no case, no screen protector, and regularly gets thrown around. No scratches yet, and it's even been in harm's way when I yakked my guts out once. Works great still.

Yeah.. And you'll be throwing your money away on taxes, when you can get it somewhere new and tax free or buy it used in good condition. Seriously, after I discovered newegg, I don't even want to hear about taxes on anything electronics/gadgets. In fact I don't want to hear the word "tax" when it comes to any of my purchases, not to mention BestBuy's merchandise is usually overpriced compared to online retailers, and salespeople are rude and know nothing about technology.

Ouch! Talk about not valuing your stuff...

What are your experiences with jailbroken iPads? I was thinking about jailbreaking mine, for a few games/apps, but I dont want to compromise reliability/security.

What's another good screen protector that's almost exactly like the Spigen Ultra Crystal (SQ)? It's not available on Amazon at the moment, and I really need a SP! :(

What's this thread about exactly... iPad 3??? Or are we here to discuss about ol' ipad 1 and 2?

Man all I wish from iPad is to have some real computing power on the device like the laptops! too bad you can't do 90% of the things you can do on a laptop.

I learned something coolest and most important. iPad is appropriate for average Joe... Mom and dad grandma grandpa grand kids dogs cats birds bears fish....

It's not for end users like me.

FAIL

:D

I feel like Laptops and iPads have their places. Try not to make it something it isn't, and you'll be much happier with what it is.

And if you want "screen protectors" or for bodies just go order a sheet of ventureshield clear bra film and wrap the whole thing with it. You can cut holes for things like 3.5mm headphone jack, USB input, etc. You can cover up buttons as this material is extremely flexible. You can order by 12" x 12"+.
