What are your experiences with jailbroken iPads? I was thinking about jailbreaking mine, for a few games/apps, but I dont want to compromise reliability/security.

What games/apps are you needing to jailbreak for?

My opinion on jail breaking is that you just need to have a very specific use for doing it. On the ipad, I jailbroke last just for Retina, which displays retina graphics on iPhone apps that are displayed on the iPad. I decided it wasnt really worth it, so I stopped JB'ing with iOS 5. Replaced XBMC with Boxee and a transcoding server.

On the iPhone, I feel like I must have BkiteSMS and so continue to run jail broken.

What's this thread about exactly... iPad 3??? Or are we here to discuss about ol' ipad 1 and 2?

Man all I wish from iPad is to have some real computing power on the device like the laptops! too bad you can't do 90% of the things you can do on a laptop.

I learned something coolest and most important. iPad is appropriate for average Joe... Mom and dad grandma grandpa grand kids dogs cats birds bears fish....

It's not for end users like me.

FAIL

😀

Wait wait wait.

You can definitely do 90 percent of what you can do on a laptop on any tablet. It's that remaining 10 percent that requires more processing power and precise input that everyone seems to have their panties in a wad over. Perhaps you should be doing more with your laptops so you'll actually know how much is equally possible on both platforms.

wut.... I can't even do 50% of the stuff on iPad 2 like I can on Macbook!

For example,

- You can't install MPlayer X on iPad 2. It doesn't exist.

- iPad 2 doesn't have the ability to properly de-interlace the videos from decoding the 1080i files. You can decode "compressed" 1080p fine, but it's worthless for 1080i. This is a huge mega dunky arse deal breaker. 😀

- You can't run iTunes on iPad 2 like you can on Macbook.

- There is no RJ-45 port. How am I gonna get gigabit ethernet connection?

- You can't do file transfer between windows like you can on Macbook and Windows PC.

- Probability of getting light bleeding issue is at 270%. Macbook seems to be a little better... so laptop wins. Plasma is king though, zero bleeds.

- No USB ports. Yeah you can get adapter for it, but the fact of the matter is that the device itself does not have USB ports...

- Pending... 😀

I mean seriously.... this is year 2012 guys. Some high tech device like iPad 2 should have the ability to play 1080i files... but can't do jack. I mean if we are talking in the year 2000 I can understand that..... 2012 is like future.

You see, I'm an end user, or you could say "professional user". I'm really not asking much here... You just can't do much with the iPad1 or 2 or dinky dunka....

I want a iPad type tablet that is open! Jail break works but I want it to be officially like that so everyone has the same kind. Then we could play whatever we want on it and custom it just the way we like it.

Are you trolling just for the sake of trolling, or what?

If the iPad (whichever generation) isn't the right tool for you and you don't have a real use for it, then DON'T BUY IT. Simple. Have you given some thought to the possibility that you aren't Apple's target market for the iPad? If you need the capabilities of a MBA or MBP, buy that instead.

On second thought, n/m

There are any number of Android tablets out there, crazy go nuts.

Don't we have guidelines somewhere about trolls?

You're right... I should probably just ignore him, you know, like officially. But i am concerned that someone, somewhere is going to actually listen to him, and I would rather that not happen.

Well, I think you can choose to not respond.

In any case... I think I just found something interesting. My iPad 3 order is marked as shipped, and through FedEx. Going to the tracking number, it shows "standard overnight" and that the package was picked up on Sunday, but it's now 2 days later and no update, so chances are... I suspect it'll only get on a plane on Thursday. Looks like Apple is doing all it can to make sure everyone gets their iPad 3 on time.

They couldn't help some folks over at Vietnam to sneak one iPad 3 from nearby Foxconn facility, though, and they did some crazy benchmarks to it, confirming a few things... among which is the fact that we are finally getting 1GB RAM for iOS!

runawayprisoner, mine shows it's been picked up by Fedex but "Future Delivery requested" is under Details.

Yeah, mine was picked up on Sunday, too. It's from CA, which is where I live. For something from the same state and can possibly travel by truck over the whole week from Monday to Friday, I'm surprised Apple chose "standard overnight" is all.

Why does "standard overnight" surprise you? As in, is there any other option they should have picked to ship it?

Mine is on the other side of PA near Philly. I can't wait for it to be Friday. >_<

Mine is picked up and is showing in Nashville. I read somewhere that the trucks with the iPads are actually staying locked till late Wednesday / early Thursday.

This is the same guy who bought a crappy DAC for his MBP instead of getting Apple to fix his problem... :hmm::hmm:

It's in the same state. They can just do "Ground" and it would be here in about 1-2 days flat. Heck, if they have from Sunday to Friday, I'd bet that someone can deliver the package from the warehouse with a bike, and that's also considering how he has to stop to rejuvenate, sleep, and so on... It's a 6-hour drive.

Ah well, less surprising than if I was in the same city as the warehouse!

To be fair though, it will make the delivery person actually rush to meet his goal. I know that even though it says overnight, they do get lazy because they are normal people and they could definitely miss their target if it's just standard ground. That way they have the urgency to actually deliver.

I'm soo nervous about:

Stuck pixels (or dead pixels)
Backlight bleed
Dust underneath the glass

I had to exchange three iPad 1s because of this and just returned it, then I skipped the iPad 2.
