No, they had to redesign every vehicle for the new engine. Every one, in every detail they wanted to fit in the game. They didn't scale back anything, they started clean slate.

There is no point arguing with these people. Simply by including the option to buy tokens to buy cars normally available, Forza is forcing you to buy cars because getting them in game is too hard according to these guys. Also, GT6s amazing car list full of PS1 quality garbage is obviously superior.

The stupidity with which you have lumped me into an unnamed group of "these guys" is remarkable.

True, but that doesn't change the fact that the car count was cut, nor does it justify the insane car DLC prices, in my opinion. Obviously, enough disagree to warrant that price point, but I personally think that the Season Pass is AT LEAST twice as-expensive as it is worth, but that's me. I've long been a DLC cynic.

"car count" doesn't really mean jack. i hate how people use the number of "things" in a game as some kind of measuring stick. more != better. i remember back in the day when gran turismo had a shitload of cars, but once you play the game, you realize that about 90% of the cars are useless. most people find the car they like and stick with it.

this goes with other genres too. like ultra street fighter iv just came out and they added 5 new characters (as well as other changes). but imo, sf4 doesn't NEED new characters. there are now 44 characters. then you have a game like killer instinct that has 9 playable characters (1 being a clone), but every character is drastically different. it's not like street fighter where you have 5 shotos, and a handful of characters no one takes serious.

then you have umvc3. game has a retarded number of characters too, but whenever you watch tourneys you see the same 8 or so characters at the top because they are the best. with killer instinct so far you have seen all characters do well which is awesome to see. fulgore has been out like a month or so and the latest tournament the 2nd place guy was rocking him.

so moral of the story is content > content. i know today's ADD audience doesn't get that, but it's just the truth. its the same with mario kart. the SNES one was best BY MILES and it only had 8 characters, 20 tracks, and 4 battle tracks. now with the new one, they don't even have a legit battle mode, but they have shitload of characters, tracks, and items, yet the game is ass compared to the OG one.

I agree, there's absolute truth that more doesn't mean better. However, the effects of losing cars will vary form person to person. Most might not find there to be a meaningful loss of cars, but there are plenty who will be used to playing their games with their own cars, only to be presented with a racing game without them this time. For example, my dad's car (2002 Camaro SS, not the red-silver anniversary model) is no longer in the game. I could technically just put the 35th Anniversary in black and roll with it, and I don't legitimately care THAT much, but it's still a bit disappointing.

My point about the cars wasn't necessarily that the car count bothered me. It's about the price of the DLC, which drives me insane. Skipping it is the obvious answer, and I have, but like I said, having those Achievements listed as unfinished on my game is a bit bothersome. If they just cut back the cars, I would have gotten over it almost immediately. That they put a $50 price tag on getting the game to half its predecessor's number of cars (regardless of detail, I know), it's just a crazy cost.

The real content issue that bothers me is the tracks. I know, they laser-tracked these tracks or whatever...I can't say I actually care. What I care about is how they went from 26 tracks to 14. In all honesty, Forza 4 got a bit redundant towards the end with that number of tracks. With Forza 5, basically every event in the career mode involves racing on every track, because there are so few tracks in the game.

That's admittedly tougher to put up with, because it's so much of the same thing with every event. However, the real punch to the gut there is that basically all of my favorite tracks are gone. I loved Nurburgring, as I think most did. I was also a big fan of Maple Valley and Fujimi Kaido, and they're gone (with Bathurst being the closest thing to that mountainous racing, at small sections).

Really, the car count didn't bother me, it was the Season Pass's price tag. The track count...that actually bothered me.

After hearing some of this stuff, I might check it out. it doesn't really bother me to be honest and will have no bearing on me getting it or not

i just realized yesterday that this game comes out in less than 2 months. i had thought it was coming out around thanksgiving/xmas.

it's actually the first game since the launch of ps4/xbox1 that i'm excited about.

I'm somewhat excited about the game, but not sure I'm up for another Forza game after just getting 5. Will wait to make sure that Drivatars are heavily improved as well as what cars come with the game.

My concern is how this will stack up against The Crew, which claims coast-to-coast racing. Thing is, I think the map in that game only take a couple of hours to traverse, end-to-end. I've yet to hear anything about the size of Horizon 2, either in terms of end-to-end drive time or what we'll have for an environment. I similarly just for FM5(though for the second time), and have a lot still to complete, so getting this ASAP isn't a big deal.

Horizon 2's map is supposed to be 3 times the size of Horizon's map. So, we have a generally idea. Also, MS stated there would be 200 cars in the game at launch.

The game takes place in Northern Italy and Southern France.

Also, as per EA being EA, no Porsche. =(

I never played the first title, so no idea what the scale is. However, comparing the U.S. to parts of 2 small countries (combined, they're about 10% the size of the United States, I think), the scale is going to have to be much larger for FH2, or the result will be a much-smaller game, which I think is probably the biggest factor in an open-world racing game (being able to go and do a bunch in different environments).

Horizon felt like a large city, say Chicago but not as detailed set in a more vast Nevada environment. For comparison, I did 500 miles over 10 days in Horizon, while 200 over 18 days in Forza 5. Much less driving, but was able to do almost 100% more worth of achievements in Horizon. The one thing that I remember is a good mix of tracks, off road, highway and interstate.

horizon seemed big as shit to me. like to the point that it was too big sometimes. i'm really glad they have ways to just transport in horizon 2 so you don't have to waste time going across the map. i know they had ways to transport in the first one, but you had to first drive to specified points that would transport you to other specified points (if my memory is correct).

but horizon 2 will seem even bigger than 3x the first one imo because there are no "walls" so you can literally drive in a straight line to any point in the game, unless there are like cliffs and stuff.

i haven't heard much about the crew since prior to launch of both ps4 and x1, but i thought those were more arcade racer games in general, that are designed to be played with other real life people. the premise seems like it isn't very similar to horizon 2 in general. that was one game i had on my radar too but haven't heard anything about it since like a year ago.

I loved the first Horizon, perfect blend of arcade and sim for me. Even if this is just more of the same, that's great to me.

The Forza Horizon 2 Demo is Coming!

ForzaMotorsport.net said:
Forza Horizon 2 fans, you’ve been asking for it and today we’ve got news: The Forza Horizon 2 demo for Xbox One is coming on September 16! If you haven’t been lucky enough to be at E3, Gamescom, PAX, or any of the other shows where Forza Horizon 2 has made an appearance, September 16 will your day to finally get hands-on with the latest open-world action racing game from Playground Games. Explore the beauty of southern Europe in a handful of the world’s most amazing cars in this demo, which has been designed to give you a brief taste of what to expect when Forza Horizon 2 launches on Xbox One, beginning on September 30.

I'm really pleased to hear this. I'm right on the middle of the fence between Horizon 2 and The Crew. My biggest fear is the scale of each game. The Crew sounds really small for a nationwide game (they said it's less than 2 hours, end-to-end). I want the game with the biggest, most-open world to play in. It sucks that neither game's given a proper message on the size of the in-game map.

The other thing is that I don't want to see Horizon 2 get a $50 Season Pass like Forza 5 did. I'd like to try to actually get all of the Achievements in it.

I know they said that in horizon 2 you can cut through the fields and such. Did any other game do this before in a more or less open road type of racing game?

nope, i believe this is the first one like this. burnout paradise was the closest to this but not nearly at the same scale, and it had more of predetermined ways to get off of the roads and stuff. it wasn't like you could get anywhere in a straight line though, and there were definitely areas you couldn't access.

It will certainly have DLC and a Season Pass. You'd have to be pretty naive to expect otherwise.

I guess it's that I'm confused at the lack of an announcement. I wouldn't say it's being naïve, it's more a faint hope that the lack of an announcement means either it won't happen in this game, or it's priced more reasonably than the $50 price tag. I'd MAYBE buy in at $25, but I've been such a DLC snob over the years I don't know what would convince me in a racing game, where the DLC isn't exactly a big part of the game (to me).
