NEWS

10/31/08

It's finally up! I worked pretty hard on this and have been waiting to get this to you guys.

Here is a snip:
Just a few feet in front of me stands a balding, wiry man who wants to kill me. He snaps at me with a loathsome tone for asking a line of ethical questions about his occupation of slave trader. Sun-weathered skin cracks around his mouth as he barks "get yer ass out of here if you don't like it then!" I relent and cool him down a bit. I inform him that I would like to inspect and possibly acquire several of his goods, but I am swiftly denied.

Perhaps he knows of my true intent, to rescue two children who have recently vanished from a neighboring shantytown. He hints to me that I can gain entrance to his slave pen if I offer him the right sum of caps, which are the legal tender in the Wastelands. Better yet, giving him a slave from a nearby town might improve my odds. I question whether I should even continue this harrowing discussion as I eye the road behind me.

I notice a raggedy man in a hockey mask standing behind him, holding a rifle. I quickly pull out my combat shotgun and literally blow the balding slaver's head right off. The grunt in the background raises that shotgun of his, but I put an end to things before he can even pull the trigger. I have found a more favorable solution and fashioned my own means of entry outside of the dialog tree. I'll continue my search for those kids, but first I'll pick these bodies clean of munitions and rations. This was my way of doing things in one of the numerous side-quests in Bethesda's long-awaited and skeptically-approached take on the Fallout franchise, Fallout 3.

Enjoy. :)

Now they just need to get Cpt. Jean-Luc Picard to revisit their studios for an appearance ...

Any ETA on the game?

Liam Neeson.

$5.75 million to buy the Fallout IP, and now they're going to do another Patrick Stewart. I guess that means they'll have 3, maybe 4 voice actors to do everything else.

Considering the quality of 'regular' voice actors (*cough* crappy actors), I'm happy they're hiring top of the line ones. Been playing Shivering Isles and it really is the same 2 or 3 people doing every voice. However, they all stink! In the original main quest, it was an absolute pleasure hearing dialogue from Picard and Sharpe:). Probably ran it over budget and costed the same as 20 regulars, but I've rarely heard any good ones. Just off the top of my head, the BEST voice actors I remember and loved the most are real film/movie actors. My all time favourite is Jon Irenicus in Baldur's Gate 2 played by David Warner (Various Star Trek parts). Too bad they can't just find another Hank Azaria to do an entire game...

Well it will not be bethesda's fault. They have been pretty mum on the subject. All the hype seems to be fan driven. Makes me feel sorry for the devs.

I love the concept and atmosphere of the Fallout games, but never actually got into the games themselves...I am not a huge fan of turn based combat. The only Fallout game that stuck with me was Tactics, which I know is blasphemy within the Fallout fanboy network.

However, an Oblivion gameplay take on the Fallout universe could prove interesting.

Or, if they choose to go 3rd person, they will need to couple the IP with a suitable engine...kind of like the advancements from Baldur's Gate to Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic.

It will be nearly impossible to apease us old timers who really enjoyed fallout 1/2 (not wasteland, I am not *that* old) I would be happy with a isometric view, turn based game with slightly better gfx. The problem is most of us have been waiting forever for another true fallout game. Tactics was fun but very shallow, linear, and kinda boring.

Gawd, at this point I would buy an expansion pack for fallout 2!

I like oblivion, but I don't want an action rpg. I want a dumbed down rpg feel with basic control over my stats.

I just want to say--personally, I think this game is going to blow us away and surpass most peoples expectations.

I know, I'm going out on a limb. :)

I wonder precisely what kind of thermonuclear weapon Bethesda supposes the Chinese used to destroy half the capitol building, and not the other half.

Hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes with Oblivion, as well as past Fallout titles, to make Fallout 3 the best they can.

As long as they get Ron Perlman to voice the opening, I don't care who else they hire.

"War. War never changes..."

Unfortunately, I don't think Bethesda believes they've made any mistakes. When I hear them proclaim Oblivion as a 'deep and complex RPG' it seems to indicate that they're pretty pleased with the direction they're taking.

Then most recently, a Fallout 3 dev essentially says 'We don't like humor in games'. Most of Fallout's soul was humor, risque humor moreover, which will be a no-go at Bethesda.

Must be a North Korean built atomic bomb.

Well to be fair, slapstick humor does not belong in a dark themed RPG like Fallout.

If anything, with Bethesda releasing the "Shivering Isle" expansion for Oblivion, they have proven that they are quite capable of taking an RPG into the realm of the bizarre, risque and dementia.

Highly looking forward to this.
Don't have any expectations.

Really enjoyed oblivion for about 25 hours, until I really realized this isn't that great of a game. Hope fallout 3 is not similar.

I kinda understand what you are talking about. It is so open ended you spend lots of hours exploring and doing side quests. It can really burn you out.
