I was under the impression that it allowed more than 4 GB to be used, but it looks like you may be right. That does seem like a pretty bad oversight in an era where many gamers run 64 bit operating systems and often have 12 or more MB of RAM.

Since upgrading from 4GB to 16Gb last week (after rec from Locut0s ;)), I've noticed that with Chrome running on Win 7 64, Skyrim now pushes the total address up to ~5gb.

I don't see how it will ever use as much as 4gb, unfortunately. :(

There's no way to "Retro-code" it, is there? better CPU utilization and multi core addressing is about the only significant thing that can be done after software is released, right?

How do you get to the construction kit? Supposedly it's out but I haven't seen an update, and I don't see any new menu choices or files with dates later than 2/1.
It's under tools in Steam menu, if it's up yet. I've got the hi-res pack. I see why they didn't include it originally. Maxed vram walking around Whiterun. You have to get really close to things before they start to blur. Lighting is different, everything is clearer in Breezehome now, you can actually see books in the stands now. Shadows still suck in interior of Breezehome by the fire. Totally changed view distances, I had everything maxed before, now 3 of them are at 60% or so, others about 30 to 40%. Haven't changed anything yet, 1300 vram outside, but pop-in isn't as noticable.

It's a much bigger deal to code and test both 32-bit and 64-bit native versions of a complex application. If you set the LAA flag on a 32-bit app you get most of the benefit your end users will care about anyway, and you can support both versions of the operating system from one code base.

Thanks. Must not have been downloaded by my client yet, since I don't see it in the tools list. Some people on the Steam forum are already reporting some issues with it, so I assume it's out.

Wish there was a concrete way to see the history of downloaded updates in Steam. When I go to properties/updates/update history it just takes me to the news page.

You can either click on the library tab twice, or maybe you have to wait for an update to begin in the bottom to go to the update list--also part of the "library" menu.

I have a running list of updates over the last 3 or so weeks. I wish they were dated, though, It just shows the time...which is useless.

Changed view distances to ultra. At 1519 vram outside now, with a little hitch at cell borders. Just dropped to 59.1 fps before, still do but have the little hitch now and again. Just some borders.

Uninstalled the one exterior mod I had, Improved Rock and Mountain textures, and my vram usage dropped, even in Whiterun. Not a lot, 100 to 200, but it's not maxed anymore. And I am not running at 95 GPU usage anymore, dropped back to 40 to 50 on both cards. Have to investigate that some more. Backed off item and object distance also. My ini got reverted to stock setting, only had some shadow settings changed. Shadows aren't that bad outside now. Still have some jags when moving for the sun, but other than that they look pretty good.

5 PM and I still don't see the construction kit in my tools menu, not sure what's going on.

Edit: ok, figured it out. It's listed in the tools page on Steam as "Creation Kit" and you have to right click there and install it, and then it is available to use. If it's not listed in the tools page restart Steam and it will be there.

I had to actually launch the game for Steam to initiate the high-res download. I have several texture packs already installed, the game ran great with everything for about 15 minutes when it started bogging down to ~5fps in outdoor areas. This is brand new and never happened prior to the today.

So I removed the mountain and rock textures pack that someone mentioned already in this thread. Seems to have helped with the bogging down but there's still a noticeable performance impact at times. It's sporadic though, I may need to comb over some of these additional texture packs I'm using to determine if some of them can be removed now.

I don't suppose the texture pack is something that can be installed uninstalled as easily as other mods? I'd like it start downloading it, but I don't want it to suddenly make the game unplayable for me without being able to remove it...

Raven how's your Xfire handling it?

Like crap, the game looked and handled better with all my previous mods!

Thank god I kept my fully modified version backed up in my RAID0 drive, otherwise I'd be stabbing my self with a fork right now.

Based on what I've read, it is (but I haven't tried it myself, so take that with a grain of salt). I hear it installs as two .esp files which you can load through a mod manager or through Skyrim if you load loose files. If you don't like it, you can disable the .esp files. Worst case scenario, you delete your /data folder and get Steam to verify files (so it downloads necessary files again). That said, I'd give it a few days; with the creation kit being released, it seems like we'll be seeing quite a few texture mods that put the Bethesda HD textures to shame.

On a completely different note, has anyone tried to play the game in a different language, with different dubbing / voice over? I'm curious how much space those language packs take, considering the game was released on a single DVD.

I finally bought the game (just built my PC last week) and got the official HD textures as well. The game looks absolutely amazing. I grabbed a couple of other mods too (SkyUI, CBBE :p) and they all run awesomely. I can't wait to get home and play some more.

I don't know what my deal is right now, but I totally don't understand the joke you are making, or what you're referencing if anything...

Too much Skyrim on the brain :p, though I am at work right now, and doing my job awesomely as usual.
