Anyone having trouble with having dragons show up in towns?

I just killed my third Elder Dragon within the city limits of Falk_____. I go there often to use the general store, but if I'm not careful, the dragon kills off some of the towns people.

Everything else wise, I'm now at level 41 and leveling has gotten much slower. Meanwhile, all the good perks have opened up, or I've realized I've fallen behind. Must start whoring magic with my base 100 mana...

Yeah I have trouble with dragons appearing in town when I quicktravel. I quick save before just incase it kills off some needed merchants and townsfolk.

I set my settings to low and it seems to work better, no CTDs, but i never had any issues with it being on high or even ultra. It was nice and smooth except for the CTDs.

Also, is anyone else getting tired of lockpicking a master locked door or chest and only getting like 2 gold and some useless junk but yet you can open a unlocked chest or do and get like 5 magic items?

I have a question for someone who has done a few thieves guild quests.

Is there a golden statue to find in each quest? I'm only 3 missions in and I found 2 gold statues in the first 2 quests, but I didn't find one in the 3rd.

I'm 70+ hours in and have yet to see a dragon attack a town, nor have I seen more than one dragon at any time.

I quit the main questline after reaching High Hrothgar, maybe I needed to go farther to "activate" these type of events?

I feel the same way. Cloth mage all the way. Reminds me of my eq1 necro. Next go around will be orc or nord 2h with heavy armor.

I hit level 37 and finally got enchanting to 100. A bit crazy now that I can do the 100% magicka reduction in destruction. Chain casting expert level destruction spells + dremora pet is a bit OP even on Master difficulty setting. Can't imagine this with two pets when I hit 100 conjuration.

EDIT: Meant to say Expert level spells, don't have Master spells yet.

Ha! I too call them my pets. :D Thought I was the only one. I say "Come, my pets" (or "my pretties" if flame atronachs)! when I enter a dungeon. I use a pair of potent dremora lords indoors and tend to switch to storm atronachs outdoors.

Currently grinding the enchanting skill. I know the quest and the location of the master trainer but I'd rather be buying soul gems and grind it under the Sleeping Giant Inn or in my Archmage quarters.

I now have all three pieces of a long-gone amulet. Time to go reforge it, then sell it maybe ( I already know what its properties will be when reunited).

I have the same problem. I only go there and Riverwood to sell stuff. Must have killed 5 dragons so far in Falkreath. I fireball their skeletons into the river or else they clutter the street (had up to 3 still around at the same time before they vanished - untidy).

This makes me sad. You should get back to it, it's amazing on so many levels!

Also, in completely unrelated news (and to answer my own question from about 10 pages ago) I can confirm that leveling is possible beyond level 50, but slow, and you continue to gain a perk for each new level obtained, even beyond 50.

I think the short answer, if I understand your question correctly, is "no." There are several of them around Riften (and elsewhere), and besides the quest where you HAVE to steal one, I think their presence is just coincidence. You'll see as you progress that they quickly become unrelated to the plot.

2nd confirmation if anyone wants it, I hit 52 today but it really slows downs I find after 50 for your "main" skills.

I know, but for some reason for me they like the college of magic, I had 3 in the courtyard and 2 more in the town. it was when I was doing the college series of quest. I would walk out and boom there is an elder dragon flying around.

Ditto. I had more than one appear simultaneously when returning to turn in some quests there.

Well, I finished the main quest line today at 39. Below are my rants on the ending and on the game in general.

The Alduin fight was a huge and I mean huge letdown. This was entirely too easy even on Master level. There were no surprises, no drawn out battle. Just dragonrend zap dragonrend zap.. rinse and repeat. Makes me lament for how much I miss the end battle in Baldur's Gate 2 and Jagged Alliance.

And then when he dies he just evaporates and doesn't even drop anything. Seriously?

The most fun I had in this game was early on doing the Winterhold mage quests. When I got the end reward I was pretty excited and was looking forward to other similar quests with maybe upgrades. Little did I know that the Arch Mage robe was the best in game at that point. The staff is ok and the mask of Morokei is nice but once you get to a point where magicka regen isn't important because you can enchant 100% reduction in destruction spells it trivializes the whole regen aspect.

The Dremora pet is far too powerful. Now look, I don't mind spending time making my toon a tad bit OP but when the mobs don't scale to your power it sadly makes the game boring. I almost fell asleep in Skuldyn(sp?) killing endless draugr because it was not challening in the least.

Now here is the part I hate most. As much as I want to create a melee toon and do this again I really don't see the point. I'm sure I'll have fun doing the companion and stormcloak quests and/or dark brotherhood but then probably not enjoy the mainline quest at all knowing what is ahead and how easy it is. I'm sure I'll get some nice rewards but I also know I can just smith my own uber weapon/armor. IMHO, quest rewards should be the best items and you should have follow up quests to upgrade them. This would make replay much more interesting.

IMHO what they should have done is this. Cut back on some of the side quests and make the mainline quest branch with different endings and different rewards in each branch. That would give me a big incentive to go back and start a new toon.

Sigh. I dunno, the whole last 1/3 of the game seemed so boring and not very challenging. Pretty sad that the first 1/3 of the game was the most exciting and rewarding.

One thing I might do is go Orc 2h and just kill everything in sight to express my frustration :)

Oh well. Here's hoping people can come up with some great add ons.

Good rant. Despite really, really enjoying the game overall, I agree with nearly everything you said, and plan to massacre Skyrim on my next playthrough since I will have already done every non-random quest chain on my initial playthrough, and can just craft the best gear. Did the same in Morrowind on my second playthrough. Killing some important NPCs broke the game a bit, but it was just so satisfying killing EVERYONE in EVERY town after spending countless hours doing their bidding.

Dragons that sometimes don't even want to land. Obviously nobody is going to play a melee character...

Sneak mechanics that makes no sense. On one hand you had psychic enemies that always seem to know exactly where you are once u are detected, on the other with Shadow Warrior you can simply sprint right up to them, crouch, x15 sneak attacks rinse and repeat. How very logical.

Writing so bland that whatever talent those VAs had goes entirely wasted.

Ah, yes people love scaled quest rewards! Sucks to be you because you completed quests at low levels and are now stuck with crap loot. Never mind that Diablo II had item effects that scaled to your level 10 years ago, and EVERYONE hated scaled quest rewards in Oblivion.

Doesn't the game autosave before quick traveling? I think quicksaving is unnecessary.

OK. Came across a place while wandering the countryside (not on a quest) and it sure was worth the trouble. Siege on the Dragon Cult at Foreholst Hold was the most 'kill lots of badass baddies and avoid very nasty traps while getting awesome loot' fun I've had playing this game so far. Toughest dragon priest too. That Rahgot was a nastard (nasty bastard).

Just did that at level 41. Drusilla's leveling very slowly at the moment because she's concentrating on grinding enchanting and still using her summoned minions a lot (which does not help leveling as her conjuration is already 100). Gonna use her destruction more once she has maxed out enchanting and can make herself some mean summoner destructor gear. Once that's maxed out, she'll grind her illusion and alteration. There's also this archery stuff. :colbert:

As a side note: in 104 hours of play, Drusilla has yet to use a potion (unless I've forgotten). That comes from having her pretties do most of the fighting while she conjures them up from a distance. She has a few good healing and magicka potions in reserve for when the real nasties appear but otherwise, she's sold the lot of them in Riverwood. After a visit to that store, her items load generally weighs around 40lbs including the darn lute (I'll console it away eventually). She travels light.

She loves conjuring her minions on the other side of portcullis grates and watch them run at the enemy while she waits. Once they come back and all is safe, she raises the door. Such is the summoner/necromancer way. We may be chicken shit but we're chicken shit that will kill you and teabag your remains before re-animating them as a thrall like this son of an infamous mage whose name must remain forgotten to history.;)

hmm, if anything that 4gb .exe made my ctd worse...very annoying- hope the official patch fixes what ever it is that's causing these. Love the game- 60+ hrs in, had maybe 3 CTD in the first 20 hours, then average maybe 1 every 2 hours after that...w/ the 4gb exe I've had 2 in 20 mins.
