Yep, I've seen other people mention that happening. In my current game someone has sent the Dark Brotherhood after me, haven't figured out why yet (this is a "good" character). Probably pissed someone off during a quest.

In Oblivion you could be basically good and still get the Brotherhood. You only had to murder one person to start the quest. After that none of the quest murders was considered truly evil, since it was directed and since ideally no one should see it.

Ditto the Vault dweller from Fallout 3. No matter what you did the Brotherhood would still take you in and make you save the wasteland with water.
As opposed to New Vegas where theres 4 distinct endings one of which is very evil, the others open to interpretation.

I mean, someone sent DB assassins to kill me.

AMD CAPs UPDATE

AMD has released CAP 2 for 11.11 drivers and they DO NOT include optimizations for Skyrim.

I gave up on AMD a while back. Intel and nVidia have been too solid to even think of AMD. I say this after having built two AMD machines and one Intel machine. I have also owned many AMD/ATi cards, but unless something dramatic happens i cant ever imagine buying AMD again. Even their drivers come packed with nonsense...

Only about 10 hours into the game, yeah I know not playing that much. I notice that textures are missing on a LOT of things. So you get the default blue/purple colour on lots of objects. It's random and not reproducible.

CPU wise they are good for budget builds. But yeah I've been burned by their video card drivers more than once. Nvidia all the way from now on. And I got a 5970, lol. Performance is great when they can get their driver act together, which isn't often, or soon enough on popular titles.

It's a known AMD/XFIRE issue. The damn cap needs to be here..

Does anybody know whether the game ends when you beat the main quest? Or does it just go back to normal just like oblivion? (so you can complete other quests)

Can someone help me?

I just installed the game, but when I click on Play the first screen starts to come up (black background with "Bethesda Game Studios" logo), then it just goes back to the desktop. It won't let me into the game. :'(

Has anyone else experienced this? I tried putting it on my native resolution, windowed mode, then back to game default settings. Think it's a driver issue? I'm running 11.3 drivers.

Thx

sigh i pay 1k for a horse and it dies within 10 minutes. bah

Better without a horse imo, I never use mine. I only use the horse when traveling through an area that I had already previous explored. On foot I stop and check out everything, it takes forever for me to actually get where I am going cause I clear out everything I come across lol.

You guys with 10s of thousands in cash. Did you get most of your money from selling loot or quest rewards? If selling loot where did you sell it? I find it hard to find a merchant with more than a thousand cash and when you clean one out you have to find another.

I just sold mine all over as I went. The merchants get new coin every couple of days. You could fast travel around or use the wait option (not in the store).

Edit: I get 600-1,000+ gold per quest reward now, but it's not really needed. There's tons of loot to sell all over the place.

This is what flames in my game look like. Not things like torches or dragon breath flames but anything that is set on fire looks like this.

I had to

"Uncheck (disable) 'Enable Surface Format optimization' under Catalyst A.I."

now it's fine

Ahh didn't realize the merchants got more cash every couple of days thanks. I'm actually the type of player that likes to loot every single thing that's not nailed down and sell it for cash but the game, like Oblivion before it, doesn't make this all that easy.

I just visited the Skyrim Nexus. I now understand what you guys are saying about the Mods. Linking off a Kotaku article, I have just witnessed the power of Mods. Genuinely got me excited, and totally made me say 'screw the console versions'. I'll be downloading off of Steam shortly.

One of us! One of us!:sneaky:

Horses are said to be able to climb steeper slopes than you on foot. That said, I'm not very fond of horses in real life (city boy with a stable a couple of blocks away for tourist carriages and every once in a while the diaperless horses take a stinky dump in front of my apartment building) so I don't ride.

Ok a tip to get Gold relatively fast (although not easily so, it's the price to get rich I guess) is the following (from a quest, both directly and indirectly). It's a small spoiler though, it isn't related to the main quest, but it's related to one of the factions in the game, and it's the second mission they give you. So even though it's a spoiler, it's just the second mission, so not a big deal in my opinion.

The quest in question that will inevitably lead you to a crap load of loot is the second mission given to you by the Companions in Whiterun, more precisely coming from Skjor. The name of the quest is "Proving Honor". You'll speak to Skjor first, and then to Farkas. Even though I'm typing this within a spoiler tag I still won't spoil the entire thing. But basically there's dozens of baddies to kill in it. What makes it "different" to some extent than any other random dungeon around with roughly the same number of mobs in them is that the enemies you can loot from that quest will give you valuable items, well most of them anyway.

Now the thing is you'll soon realize that once you've completed the mission that you could loot 20+ mobs (approximately) and go back to various merchants to sell all that. I swear I made nearly 6K Gold from the loot of every single mob from that mission. Obviously looting dozens of enemies means that you'll be over-encumbered very often and easily so. But that's up to you on how to deal with the over-encumbrance. You could loot what you can, get to a merchant, sell, then go back to the dungeon while the mobs are still there and loot again, rinse and repeat until you've looted the whole place. It takes a long time, but you can do it that way if you want.

What I did myself to fight the over-encumbrance wasn't cheating though. I bought some potions of strength to increase my carrying capacity for 300 seconds. But despite that I still had to go back in a few times to loot again, since there's just too many items to loot, especially from the last part of the quest, it's just crazy. You'll see. But be prepared for a challenge, I was Level 23 when I did that quest, and I drank all my potions. And I died a few times too.

BTW Dennil how are you managing on that 4870? What resolution are you playing at and how does the game look? Is it stable for you? Also have you used any of the mods?

I play at 1920x1200 at high+ settings. Looks very nice and runs smoothly (I haven't checked the FPS but there is no jerkiness at all). In fact, I'd say it runs better than my modded Oblivion did. Stability wise, I've had one CTD and one full freeze in 47 hours of play. After thousands of hours playings Morrowind and Oblivion, I am used to saving every couple of minutes anyway. I always use three named saves on top of the quicksave and automatic ones, so I can go back a few minutes if needed.

So far, I feel no need to upgrade and I'm not even overclocking anything. That will change once a high-res texture pack appears and I need more than my 1GB of VRAM.

It's nice when you can still get so much enjoyment out of three-year old hardware.

No mod used yet. Just changes in .ini to enable shadows on trees and rocks.

This is what the game looks like. I have disabled AA & AF in game and just enable them in Catalyst Center like I did for Oblivion to have HDR.

I must be hearing things. Just ran into someone in a dungeon that was talking about me. He said:

"Who's this? Probably just some smoothskin looking for food."

:)
