Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Gold is real. Here is Samsung's twitter feed:

I do not like it in gold color. It only spoils that phone. I do not like any phones in gold honestly speaking. They look too cheap then.

A different device hasn't changed my opinion, gold is an ugly, tacky color for a phone, tablet, laptop, etc.
You win the prize! First reply in the thread with the exact response I was expecting. (However, I was actually expecting it from someone else.)

P.S. My gold iPhone 5S is still on order, but my friend is getting his today. Bastard.

i really hate some of the stupid trends apple set and then almost everyone else followed:

1- make the phone so skinny, absolutely no protection. then sell a case to protect the phone. save money on material that was supposed to be there in the first place. brilliant.

2- non removable battery. nobody carries extra battery? but they sure are buying those even bulkier battery packs

3- glass phone. thankfully this trend died or almost died completely till google revived it with Nexus4

4- gold. what is next?
wood? stone? brick? bamboo? unobtainium?

I like glass phones a lot too. In fact, that's one reason I liked the look of the Nexus 4 somewhat. And yes, they are generally very scratch resistant. Our iPhone 4 looks almost brand new after 3 years. All I did was put a screen protector on and a back glass protector, and for most of that time used a bumper. Not shatter resistant though I agree.

Any phone is going to look like new if you put protection on the front, back, and sides...

Yeah I feel the same. My iPhone 4 looked brand spankin new with no case. Glass and stainless steel band made a resistant phone to common damage. Not good for falls, but I bump my phone into things much more often than dropping it.

The 5 on the other hand is better at falls, but very fragile when it comes to scratches due to aluminum being soft compared to glass/stainless steel.

Indeed, which is why I do it. However, for non-glass-backed phones, you can't keep the original back look in general easily. Glass accepts a clear protector easily and it still looks good. With plastic, metal, and rubberized backs, not so much. The option then is just the full-on case.

BTW, for my Android phone, I don't have a case or bumper because the phone is so damn wide in the first place.

It should be noted though that glass backs without protection do withstand scratching much better. There is a good video at iFixit with a 2 year old kid scratching the hell out of the iPhone 4S vs. the iPhone 5. After the kid-test, the iPhone 4S looks like new, but the iPhone 5S looks like crap. That is a fault more of the iPhone 5's anodization, but the same holds true to some extent for other phones.

But like we said, the drawback is that glass can shatter if dropped.

Copy copy copy.

I'm not saying Apple invented a gold phone, but they took something that we all thought was stupid and turned it into success.

I have yet to see Samsung do that. But of course they just follow trends and copy what's "cool."

Sorry, iphone hasnt been "cool" since the 4. But i agree, copying gold was dumber than having gold in the first place.

Hmmmmm, Samsung Gulf. They do like their shit shiny in the Gulf states. I'm just slightly more surprised it's not real gold. 😀

This post. It makes no sense.

People have been releasing extra tacky versions of phones in the Gulf for ages.

Also lots of people said big screens on phones were stupid. Samsung seems to have made a success of that. Indeed the market seems happy to follow them there.

iPhone is still cool enough for the android market leader to copy it at every turn. Shit, Samsung copies stuff that Apple is just rumored to be working on (iWatch anyone?). People scream all day that Apple doesn't innovate (which is valid in a lot of cases). So if Apple doesn't innovate, then what does Samsung do?

I never thought a gold coloured phone would be stupid.

As I've said in other thread, I have gold-coloured home theatre equipment, and I've always thought it looks great.
