The 16xCSAA definitely looks better to me - there are more in-between steps going from black to white. Those pics are zoomed, and I don't even know if that's real or not, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

Wow. Check out post #669 over at Hardforum.

3DMark05 1600x1200 16xS AA, HQ 16xAF = 9500

3DMark05 1600x1200 4XAA, HQ 16xAF = 10,692 (post #662)

That's pretty amazing to drop only 1200 points moving to 16xS AA. Although I hope games will show more of a difference in IQ than the images in the leaked press kit.

IIRC, isn't the Xbox 360's GPU an example of the "the world's first unified DX10 GPU"?

It was the worlds first unified part, but it isn't any Dx10 part...
Yeah, you're right. Click
If I have read it once, I have read it a thousand times, ?The Xbox 360 is just ATI?s next generation (fill in favorite code name here) GPU.? The simple answer to that is, ?No it is not.? While most modern GPUs share many architectural similarities, Bob Feldstein and Chris Evenden of ATI went out of their way to explain to me, no matter how hard I tried to convince them otherwise, that the Xbox 360 GPU is very much an original creation. While some will try to tell you that is it simply a modified DirectX 9 GPU, you might be interested to learn that the only API spec that the Xbox 360 hardware meets is its own API. That is correct, the Xbox 360 GPU only meets it own Xbox 360 API specifications. While of course some lessons learned in DX9 and upcoming DX10 were applied, the GPU of the Xbox 360 is very much its own and comparing it directly to anything in the PC world is simply ?not right? according to Mr. Feldstein. Obviously, the Xbox 360 can be thought of as a very innovative solution specifically for the Xbox and only the Xbox.
So it does have attributes that can be used in both DX9 and DX10, but doesn't officially meet the API standards for either Direct3D version.

We're DST free atm thank god, but if the main newspaper here has its way we'll have it forced upon us before too long, nevermind that we've voted against it in two referendums already :p

Release date is November 8th North America time I believe. Those on the other side of the world are gonna have to wait. ::chuckle:: I'm thinking at Midnight tonight EST you'll see the official reviews go up followed by official sales launch. This is assuming the supply is there. I'm still betting first couple weeks most places cant keep them in stock.

And this bit of info is especially for our beloved Apoppin (from someone not under NDA).

The GeForce 8800 GTX is not only the first shipping DirectX 10 GPU, but it was also the reference GPU for DirectX 10 API development and certification.

Ooh, even more interesting...

Important things... Shimmering effects are gone on G80 and it has better IQ than ATIs current high end offering.
- nVidia began designing the G80 in the summer of 2002 and it looks like it was unified from the start
http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showpost.php?p=868348&postcount=2670

If you would have asked 6 weeks ago if G80 would be unified, I think 90% of all people following it would say no (especially based on what nVidia PR was throwing out, as well.)

But it seems we all just learned our lesson that you can never really predict with nVidia and should always expect last minute surprises, that in this case turned on to be quite a big surprise. :p

Less than a day left to go!

I heard in one of the threads that GF8 High Performance IQ is way better than that of G7x High Quality.

That would indeed be nice ;)

Not too hard to achieve either, since arguably ATI's HP setting was as good as if not better than NV's HQ last time round ;)

Actually, 609 for a GTX is much cheaper than the $800 I was expecting. However, I highly doubt we'll see those prices in the states.

Here's an excellent review IMO thanks to the link above.

GTX & GTS Review

Shows what we've been saying. The GTX is a beast beating X1950XTX Crossfire in a number of tests. The GTS also performed well, but was beat in a number of tests by the 7950gx2. It all depends on price.

We spoke to nVidia about the pricing and the MSRP according to them should be US$449 on the 8800GTS and US$599 on the 8800GTX. However, the couple of vendors we spoke to had a much higher pricing. MSI quoted $567 and $747 for the 8800GTS and 8800GTX cards respectively.

There is no way I'm buying a GTS for over $500 bucks. I think I'll just buy an eVGA 7900GTX for my new rig and step-up next year.

All reviews have been taken down. :Q I'm guessing NVIDIA wants to open the gates only after the LAN part has commenced...
