Just in case anyone doubts that High Quality Anisotropic filtering is present.
(EDIT: couldn't resist adding an ATI HQ aniso shot for comparison)

The AF looks amazing, I just hope we can enable it for next to no performance hit like ATi's HQ version.

Looks great. Kills my 7950GX2 in terms of IQ... :Q

Mm, yeah. Do we have any info at all about how big a performance hit you actually do get when enabling that sort of AF quality?

That guy on HardOCP's forums said Oblivion took a 20% performance hit. I don't recall if he said from nothing enabled to AA and AF enabled or from AA enabled to both enabled.

I really hope something like the eDRAM on Xbox360 comes to discrete graphics so that we can get somewhat free AA.

Looks like NV30s AF there. The one they abandoned when ATI's angle dependent AF smoked them performanc wise.

NV3x/4x/FX Af HQ no opt

G80s AF looks to be much better than even the geforce3 and its variants.

Almost, maybe 90% of the way to perfection.

I'm very interested in seeing some in-game comparison screenshots and how big of a difference this can actually make.

Agreed. In fact this will probably be the first time since GF3 that stupid optimizations haven't ruined IQ (I have no problem with optimizations so long as they are controllable).

When you think about it, you can see what happened. 3dfx disintegrated and engineers went to ATi & nvidia in roughly equal numbers. Once there they said to their new employers "we can make you chips perfrom much faster its FPS not IQ that gamers care about". Not long after that the optimizations began.

With G80, nvidia finally appears to have said "screw you" to the 3dfx engineers and gone back to GF3 and earlier methodologies for IQ.

If you look at the R520 and GF-3 aniso examples, you'll see they comprise 4 "lobes" around a circular region. G80 has 8 such lobes.

The 'tighter' the circle is, the better. :lips:

I love the fact that NV finally fixed the AF, in time when I finally learned how to tell what 'shimmering' is. I didn't know what it is until like 2 weeks ago.

With 16xCSAA being idnetical to 4xMSAA in performance levels, looks like a winner to me.

G80 allows both FP16 and FP32 with HDR. Add in AA as well.

Not to mention AA supported on all render targets: 32-bit RGBA, FP16, and FP32 (I can feel some splinter cell and halo patches coming on...)

Is it just me or does 16xCSAA look like 4xMSAA?? I'm not that impressed with it from those images.
