I know there have been quite a few posts on this LCD, I've read quite a few of them on many forums, actually since it first hit the scene, but now that it's been around for some time, how has this LCD turned out?

I know at times there will be panel revisions, so I was wondering if this LCD has seen one or two updates, and what the overall response is on this LCD now that some time has lapsed since it came out, good, bad or otherwise?

It's excellent. Everything ever said in the reviews is true. The speakers are regular ol' TV quality so don't expect too much :p
It's been a pleasure owning it and recommend it to my friends.

I'm not sure whether there have actually been clear 'revisions' of it or not. You can be sure if you get the 20WMGX2 you'll get a true 8-bit AS-IPS panel, second only to the A-TW-IPS panels used in photography LCDs.

Mine is the most uniform screen I've ever used. Details and saturation in the dark are awesome and colors are deep and vibrant without being overpowering. Midtones are very saturated. Color tracking in the grayscale is excellent; there is little to no color tinting. It's able to faithfully reproduce any sort of picture without hesitation. The glossy screen helps raise the contrast and reduces the external light reflecting from the surface. Watching TV in PIP is fun. The response time is awesome, and the viewing angles are almost flawless for most images displayed.

Well for me it's a toss up between this and the NEC LCD2070NX. This is going to be mainly for my WorkRig doing mostly text work, and watching movies, and later I'm going to get a 7600GS for gaming, but I have my GameRig which will be for high-end SLI like gaming, and anything that isn't SLI worthy I'll game with this, but I still think that maybe this LCD might be overkill, hmm.

Personally this might be a bit extreme, and I'm leaning more towards the 2070NX which is also a S-IPS panel, and personally if the 20WMGX2 was all black, not the silver and black I'd jump on it. I just hate light colors in a monitor.

Hey xtknight ;)

So the AS-IPS are nicer panels then the S-IPS?

Darn I wish they made this thing ALL BLACK. :(

The LCD2070NX definitely isn't in the same league as this. Slower response time, much lower contrast, lower brightness, no glossy screen, and much fewer features. And yes the AS-IPS panels are the second generation of S-IPS. They push the backlight harder and draw more power but they deliver amazing brightness and still have a deep black. They also include much-improved response time reduction circuitry, as well as dynamic contrast (DV modes/advanced DVM) if that's your thing. Dynamic contrast can of course be turned off.

Among other things it has HDCP, component/S-video/composite inputs, audio inputs, and a TV tuner.

Pfft...well I ordered the silver+black version and got the silver version. I kept it anyway. That's how good it is. If you get the 2070NX over the 20WMGX2 because of bezel color I pity you. ;)

LOL, I ordered the silver+black version and got the silver version, poor guy. :(

So how's the backlight bleed on this thing?

And heck if it isn't that bad then I'm hitting the ORDER button. ;)

xtknight anyone running a great price on these besides NewEgg, and also a trusting site to order from?

I have virtually no bleed at all. Everything's very uniform. Totally different from other LCDs where you have that bluish fluorescent color seeping through the edges. I fullscreened a 1680x1050 black image and there was just a tad of a violet tint in the top right corner. I can't tell if it's just because I'm looking at a different angle or if it's actually bleed, but it's very hard to see. The coating all but obscures it. Now, if you look from different angles on a black screen it gets a violet tint like all S-IPS screens. Other than that though, I haven't seen the violet occur on anything above really dark colors.

The black level on mine is 0.2 nits which is about the best any LCD can do. Most TNs get around 0.4. Still, you will see dark gray on the LCD when it's displaying black in a dark room. With the lights on, the coating takes control and it looks pitch black, even over a large area. I can guarantee you this will best the Apple Cinema 23" S-IPS you had in graphics quality. Another interesting thing is the fact this thing actually displays dark gray instead of the bluish seepy light you see on other LCDs when displaying black. The dark and uniform gray, while not black, is still far less annoying.

I'm not sure...I got mine from Newegg. No dead pixels, just like every other LCD I've ordered from Newegg.

Ok I'm HITTING ------> ORDER ;)

THANKS xtknight, heck I might even just keep this for my SLI rig and get the other NEC for my WorkRig. ;)

I also just bought the Corsair HX520W at ZZF though, hehe to beat the shipping, and they're selling it cheaper then NewEgg at $117, so now with the PSU I'm all set to get my GameRig back up and running.

I built that SLI box in Dec. 05 and I've probably only put 40 hrs of game time on it. :(

Sheesh I've always been tinkering with it, trying to perfect it, LOL

About frekkin time:p... 20Wmgx2 has NO competition.

It aint perfect like no height ajustment and no all black bezel but the screen itself is far and away better than any LCD I've seen on everything. Color, blacks, whites, consistancy, reponse, viewing angles.

I fixed the height adjustment problem with a 2080UXI stand but unless you break out a can of nylon black paint (if done right it can look professional and factory) you're stuck with silver.

BTW excellent PSU.. and I would probably have ordered from Circut City for monitor, they carry it and are local right? Hawaii has them right? That way you can do in store pickup and RMA if you are unhappy without shipping costs.

Hands down the best LCD I've ever owned. I had a chance to compare it with the VX2025WM and the 2007FPW all at the same time and the others weren't of it's quality. I can't wait for their 26" version to hit.

Zebo, LOL, yeah about time, considering I've only been dorking around with LCDs since Dec 05 last year, AHHHHH ;)

No worries with the height adjustment I'm only 5'8" so I sit down low, and I like LCDs that sit low so it looks nice the way I see it.

Man these things would look so killer if it was all black. Why the heck didn't NEC do one all black?

Spray paint it, LOL. Well I did have a Apple 23" for a week and I didn't mind the silver in it, so I guess I'll get use to the color of the NEC, but I ordered the black-silver one and I better get it, cause I definitely don't want the all silver one.

Oh heard it's easy to take those speakers off, so I plan to rip those of, ha ha. :)

Well Circuit City is on Oahu, and I'm on Maui, we don't have one here. I just checked the shipping and it gave me, out of stock. So who knows when it will be back in.

No biggie, I don't mind paying with it through NewEgg, one because I figure they have gone through a hugh shipment of sales on this, so I would hope then that I'm going to end up with one of the newer ones, so that's the main reason I bought it from them.

I have been observing your monitor decision posts & watched you waver around between so many different models :p

But what's important is that after all that mental anguish (i do the same thing to myself before buying something), you ended up purchasing the best LCD out there :D

GJ ;)

BUT when I saw this review I was wondering then if I pushed the button to soon, LOL.

The GX2 Pro Series
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/nec_press.htm

From what I see from this review the GX2 Pro models are all the same specs as the 20WMGX2, only the response time is faster, so if that's true that was a BIG SIGH of relief from me as I started to panic there for a sec, LMAO ;)

But I can't wait to see the LCD2690WUXi, that might end up becoming my SLI LCD, and this one for my workrig.

Nah that 26" is going to cost $1600!!! MSRP is $1899!!! Not only that it won't have glossy screen which makes contrast and colors so vibrant to the eye on GX2.

The one you'll want next year is the LCD24WGX2 pro. I think there every 20" owner in here will be a race who can own it first and post a review:)

Ahhh LCD24WGX2 pro, yeah that sounds nice. :)

Oh my bad I guess these new GX2 Pro panels coming out are some newer specs.

Do you think I'm missing out by not going with one of those, or do you know if the 20WMGX2 is pretty comparable to the Pro models?

Ahh wait I wasn't looking at this:

"There didn't seem to be any difference in the spec for the LCD20WGX2 Pro". After checking with NEC product line they confirmed there is no change to the panel used or to the specs.

So they mean from the 20WMGX2 specs about the same?

"TN Film based 90GX2 and 70GX2 Pro models".

Forget those TN :(
