Dont throw away your money on that nec from newegg. Those monitors are not really new-baches but more like overstock that was shipped back from corp. companies. It is new but it should not be nowhere close to 800 dollars. If you want to be a quality trinitron crt this is the place to look:

Very good monitor but not the BEST.

The best trin ever made is this one:

Well my reply to this guy was, given the popularity of the NEC I can't see this happening.

Anyhow it came today, and I'll be opening the box soon, how old should the manufacture date probably only be, like maybe only 2-6mos old, and anything older then this, could of possibly been some overstock sent back from some company?

Would NewEgg buy overstock from companies?

It's funny how he never mentioned half of those 'grade A' monitors have serious geometry and convergence problems.

THANKS

All 20WMGX2s at Newegg are new. He was speaking of the Trinitrons you get at AccurateIT...they are overstock. Unless the black level/response time of LCDs really bothers you, the 20WMGX2 will still have more accurate (also more vibrant) colors because of OptiClear. Besides you don't get all the inputs or HDCP either.

fairly certain they are just putting pro on the label of the 20wmgx2 because it would be odd, if the 90 and 70 were "pro" (becasue fo the new 2ms time) and the 20wgmx2 which is the flagship is not called "pro"

the change probably wasnt enough to make it a 3 such as 20wmgx3 .

Well I'm having issues with this thing CRAP. :(

xtknight all I've done in the setup menu is just change the brightness and contrast, I can't say I'm like major hardcore for sitting and playing with monitors, but is that all I really need to do, because it seems ok as it is, or should I be installing some sort of drivers for this?

I have just found a few quirks, when I open up windows explorer, and as bright as it is with almost all white in the background, when I close that and go to a program that isn't as bright I see the LCD going from bright to dimm as if it's adjusting brightness on the run, compensating for lighting conditions, is this normal?

Also in the menu with the Advanced DV mode off, and in the DV mode I switch to movie, gaming, or photo I get some slight pixelation appearing, the only place I noticed this was in Windows Explorer at the top.

Here is a screenshot of the area I circled in red.

http://img139.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sshe8.jpg

It as if there is very light blotches that appear, but if I leave it in Standard it is ok.

I can try and take a picture if you don't get what I mean.

Darn just as I was typing this a light color red pixel appeared, how can I know if it's dead or stuck, and if it's stuck is there a way to clear it, I've heard people talking about this.

I just came back and re edited this post and another pixel actually I don't know if this is a pixel or not, but it appears as a grey blotch about 2times the size of a pixel, ahh man this sucks, is there a way to try and get the LCD to clear these out?

Well after only 10mins of running Undead Pixel 2.1 the grey pixel is getting smaller, but the red one is still the same.

I hope this works guys, I'll leave it running for a few hours.

xtknight where are you when I need you?

DasFox: Where am I? Sleeping in the eastern time zone. ;)

OK...let's back up a bit. With brightness>=50% and contrast >50%, the top end of the grayscale gets clipped like with a lot of LCDs. For now I recommend standard DV mode. Advanced DVM is a dynamic contrast feature. I don't use it because I find it annoying (screen flickers while scrolling a web page as it adjusts to compensate). It might be OK for movies though.

Sorry to hear you got stuck/dead pixels. Mine arrived flawless from Newegg... If you fix the other problems you should consider RMAing. Ask NEC, they'll probably replace it for you. Remember, every monitor model, expensive or cheap, has its share of defective units. That includes the Apple Cinema, Samsung 215TW, or any other high-end LCD. Generally the more expensive ones have better QC but of course that doesn't rule out the duds. Maybe it was because it was shipped so far.

But when you say the pixel "got smaller" maybe you're speaking of something else like banding. See what happens with these rather normal settings:

DV Mode: Standard
Sharpness: 16.6
Brightness: 20
Contrast: 40
Advanced DVM: Off
Color should be set to sRGB

Good luck...

The settings didn't change anything, still all the same.

Do you think NEC will pay for the shipping, cover it both ways, given the price of this LCD, or not?

This isn't banding, it's a tiny red, and grey dot, and with Undead Pixel 2.1 it's been making them get smaller, not to mention I have been rubbing, pressing and tapping on the screen which has seemed to help.

I'm just worried if I have to pay the shipping and get another dud, then I'm going to be out even more to ship it back again.

I don't know, but I know in Europe, NEC's support is very generous. They really should as the unit is defective (if pixels keep appearing places).

Make sure you say they appeared consecutively right after you turned it on and used it for ~5 min. They'll probably be more generous that way.

WoOt NEC support is awesome. They said they can ship a new LCD first, and send me Fedex way bills that pay the shipping back to them for FREE, YEAH no cost to ship, man this ROCKS!

Now I'm a happy camper, and I can't wait to get this new one, ahhhh it's been 10 months I've been dorking with LCDs.

Anyhow my box is purring like a swiss watch, my new Corsair 520 PSU seems to be running this thing sweet, and two new 7900GT KO superclocks I did an RMA with evga about 3-4 months ago, because of the uproar the 7900s had when they came out, so I sent mine in, and now I finally got to fire the new ones up, and running sweet, AND last but not least, put in a new Opty 150, and man it's all purring excpet that ding dang LCD just had to go blow my fun. LOL

Well heck I can still game the weekend away.

THANKS xtknight ;)

Glad to hear...

How do you like the LCD besides the two dead pixels? Glossy coating, response time, contrast, uniformity, viewing angle, etc?

Sure, keep it installed, but you should isolate the pixel area you're blinking with the dead pixel tester. If you flash the whole screen you could create more dead pixels in other areas.

So far it looks great. Undead Pixel 2.1 only flashes small squares for one pixel at a time, but the thing is it requires the .Net frame installed and I only use this box for gaming so I like to eliminate as much of the BS as possible.

Oh late at night sitting in the dark with only the kitchen oven light on I get no background reflection from the screen. ;)

I only game in the dark with some background lighting, it's the best visual experience. ;)

NEC support rocks and it's like this good for 3 or 4 yrs depending on model. Sorry you had bad luck.:( Back light bleed and/or dead pixels happens with all LCD's but IMO NEC should not release those at the price they charge. I mean you pay premium you want no worries...

Sorry for late resp... I'm R&Ring all house cabinets before Mrs and kids get back from Ill in Tues so I'm really busy... like 6am-10pm work schedule cause project takes about 5x longer than I anticipated...

No worries Zebo if you read my last NEC is sending me out a new one next week and shipping labels from Fedex to ship the old one back free of charge, so all is cool. ;)

Are there any revisions on this thing I should be on the look out for trying to get my hands on?

Sheesh NEC tells me to send in my invoice by email, OK so I do this, then I call tech support and they tell me to attach it now as a jpeg, LOL. I said WELL if techsuupport would of told me to do this in the first place I would of. The guys reply is well even though we tell them sometimes it doesn't get done.

NO I said what I mean is that IF your tech support person that I spoke to told me this, I would of done it, but all she said was send an email so I sent the one that came from NewEgg. I said I'm a Unix geek, and if I can run Unix I think I'd have a hard time running it, if I couldn't handle taking a screenshot and attaching it to an email

LOL, sheesh all these tech guys think everyone on the phone is a newbie, LOL ;)

Ok NEC is suppose to ship the new one out tomorrow. Hey this one I've got just popped up another dead pixel, sheesh this thing keeps crapping more and more each day. Boy I got a real doozy with it. MAN just my luck to start out this way, ahhhhh I want my mommy.
