Do you think I'm missing out by not going with one of those, or do you know if the 20WMGX2 is pretty comparable to the Pro models?

They hav'nt changed the 20" at all except in name according to that site. It's the same monitor.

Yeah on the site it's saying, for the LCD20WGX2 Pro", after checking with NEC product line they confirmed there is no change to the panel used or to the specs.

So according to that it's the same as the 20WMGX2.

LOL for a sec I was like OH NO, should I wait. :)

Boy just as I hit the buy button I see this, man technology keeps the ole head spinning.

*Das takes a big sigh of relief, AHHHHHHHH ;)

THANKS Zebo

So they mean from the 20WMGX2 specs about the same?

"TN Film based 90GX2 and 70GX2 Pro models".

Forget those TN :(

They are the best TN's out. If I were looking for a cheaper game monitor 90GX²Pro would be it.

Yeah, I wonder if the "Pro" version of the 20WMGX2 will be more expensive than the "plain" version despite there being no difference, or maybe it's going to replace it in the lineup. I gotta wonder why NEC is doing this.

Hype, marketing... I'm suprised they did'nt call it: LCD Extreme 20WMGX2-XTX -GTOproGX² ...wouldn't fit on bezel probably

What is the 90GX2 pro supposed to have over the current one? I like many things about mine but find it unsuitable for most games due to the ghosting. I rarely play games on that computer though and it works great for general Windows usage in the daytime.

Faster better contrast

The 70GX2 and 90GX2 Pro now feature an improved response time (2ms G2G as opposed to 4ms G2G) along with an improved contrast ratio of 1000:1 (DVM featured).

Is the 20WMGX2 generally just considered the flat-out best monitor you can buy for that size? I'm trying to justify the cost in my head. I mean, if it's really just leaps and bounds above the Dell or otherwise, then I'll drop the cash. I just need to make sure it will handle things GREAT in this order of priority:

1) games
2) general use; surfing, working
3) DVD playback

I would be pairing this with an x1900xt.

Well I've been into looking at LCDs since Dec. 2005. If that's any consolation, and then after trying several, decided to buy this helps, I'd say from what I've learned it's the cream of the crop in the 20" widescreen LCDs.

In a word, Yes! I have Dell 2005, many many other monitors too nothing compares to 20WMGX2. As I've said It has it's weaknesses, Size (wish it was 24"), stand, fat body, high price but it's screen is unmatched in every single catagory compared to other LCD's. Fastest, color, blacks, whites, contrast etc. I would pay $750 for this monitor tomorrow if mine broke.

One issue you might have is slight back light bleed first week as reported by some users. This is a danger however with every LCD.

I dont try and hide anything form people about products but NEC's GX2 has made me very evangelical in a long time about a product dispite it's noted weaknesses.

One more Issue I forgot to mention is LCD centered mode this monitor does not support in hardware. You will not be able to do it with ATI graphics card either as ATI drivers do not support it. :(

This means you must always display native res or it will stretch image to fill full screen which looks like sh1t. Thankfully you have a fast GFX card and can do 16x10 always and don't have to play games at 10x7 or something else.

Means you can't do this wth ATI. It will stretch all non native resolutions, 12x10 in this case, to fill whole screen.

Ok, got ya. I would hope that with my hardware I could run pretty much anything at native. Thanks for the heads-up!

Of course... this means that I probably won't get this for my girlfriend though. I think she's only sporting an ATI9600, or something similar. Maybe a 9800. Hmmm... she's going to be jealous.
