In my opinion the most significant flaw is in that laser cannons should not have a "kick" to them.

I think you're right. Its played up in the original trilogy that Anakin was this mega great jedi that was lured by the dark side...but he isn't. He never really became a full blown awesome jedi, he was just Obi Wans b|tchy side kick who lacks any discipline or control.

Actually, in the recent book, it is mentioned that Anakin is the great mega jedi...there are just no details about it. It mentions all of his exploits that must have happend between Ep II and III...but it's a pretty pathetic attempt at making him a "hero" so he can fall from grace.

From Ep I, he was a nice kid but just a kid. In Ep II, he was a spoiled, whiny brat jerkoff...not too much to fall from grace from IMO. More poor writing abounds in the last installment it seems (much like this post).

If his seduction by the dark side is anything like the novelization, it's pretty weak.

Emperor Palpatine: "Join the Dark Side, Anakin!"

Anakin: "No way, I would lose any chance at gaining the respect of Obi Wan and the Jedi Council then, not to mention the fact that Amidala would quit being a friend with benefits!"

Emperor Palpatine: "We have beer."

Anakin: "What are we waiting for, let's go!"

Actually I believe Jacen Solo is the chosen one but you'd have to read the entire New Jedi Order series to understand.

I agree that the movies portray Anakin in a bad light but the books imo paint a different picture.

Though Lea is her mother through and through. She will act all dignified one second, then proceed to gun down storm troopers the next.

I think he did a great job of acting. Yes, he's a whiny brat, but he conveyed it very well, along with the awkward social interaction. I'm suprised that a forum of adolescents, post-adolescents, and adult-adolescents ;) is unable to see this.

Does anyone else remember the scene where he's trying to do the whole "tell her I love her so I can get down her pants" but he isn't quite capable of pulling it off - not so much that he isn't smooth enough to do it, but that he's still internally conflicted as to whether it is "right".

While the acting was towards personal interaction rather than delusions of galaxy conquest, I felt that it was an excellent job at character development. Sure, he's never been a "good guy" as much as just an innocent kid, but contrast his child character with bloodthirsty young Boba Fett.

It actually put me in mind of the Dune miniseries, where the actor who played Paul did a magnificent job of playing the development of whiny spoiled brat to self-empowered manhood.

You sound like me defending Half-Life 2. :p ;)

You probably should have put "SPOILER" at the top of your post! ;)

Sorry, I forgot that part was cut from the trailer, so no one would have seen it yet. :(

My roommate and I were discussing Star Wars today and we figured out what sucks so much about the prequels (other than the glaring acting and scripting flaws). It's really pretty obvious; I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before.

Basically, the originals spent a lot of time setting Anakin up as a dignified, respectable jedi warrior who sort of fell from grace. They made him seem like a legend. Then we find out he's really just an annoying, whiny twit who needs a good beating. It totally destroys the Vader image.

I have no respect for the character. I don't dread his turning to the Dark Side. I look forward to it because maybe then he'll stop whining.

Just one of many major problems. I don't know if we really need to analyze why it sucks. I mean Yoda turns into miss piggy in episode 2... is it really necessary to analyze the movie after that? I don't think so.

That's also why The Matrix series bombed :p Aside from the last two movies sucking.

Hayden Christiansen isn't a terrible actor, he was alright in "Life as a house". I agree with the OP but I think a huge mistake was making the prequels with a PG rating.

The most significant flaw of the Star Wars prequels... is the same as the "Special Edition" versions of the originals. They were made.

Lucas has changed the whole story from a glorious rebellion of underdog good over powerful evil into a complete and utter POS. Now it's just more or less the poorly-written biography of Annakin Skywalker, a person the viewers no longer have any reason to like or feel sympathy for.
