Actually, in the recent book, it is mentioned that Anakin is the great mega jedi...there are just no details about it. It mentions all of his exploits that must have happend between Ep II and III...but it's a pretty pathetic attempt at making him a "hero" so he can fall from grace.

From Ep I, he was a nice kid but just a kid. In Ep II, he was a spoiled, whiny brat jerkoff...not too much to fall from grace from IMO. More poor writing abounds in the last installment it seems (much like this post).

If his seduction by the dark side is anything like the novelization, it's pretty weak.

Actually I believe Jacen Solo is the chosen one but you'd have to read the entire New Jedi Order series to understand.

I agree that the movies portray Anakin in a bad light but the books imo paint a different picture.

While the acting was towards personal interaction rather than delusions of galaxy conquest, I felt that it was an excellent job at character development. Sure, he's never been a "good guy" as much as just an innocent kid, but contrast his child character with bloodthirsty young Boba Fett.

It actually put me in mind of the Dune miniseries, where the actor who played Paul did a magnificent job of playing the development of whiny spoiled brat to self-empowered manhood.

Just one of many major problems. I don't know if we really need to analyze why it sucks. I mean Yoda turns into miss piggy in episode 2... is it really necessary to analyze the movie after that? I don't think so.

Hayden Christiansen isn't a terrible actor, he was alright in "Life as a house". I agree with the OP but I think a huge mistake was making the prequels with a PG rating.
 
The most significant flaw of the Star Wars prequels... is the same as the "Special Edition" versions of the originals. They were made.

Lucas has changed the whole story from a glorious rebellion of underdog good over powerful evil into a complete and utter POS. Now it's just more or less the poorly-written biography of Annakin Skywalker, a person the viewers no longer have any reason to like or feel sympathy for.
