My roommate and I were discussing Star Wars today and we figured out what sucks so much about the prequels (other than the glaring acting and scripting flaws). It's really pretty obvious; I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before.

Basically, the originals spent a lot of time setting Anakin up as a dignified, respectable jedi warrior who sort of fell from grace. They made him seem like a legend. Then we find out he's really just an annoying, whiny twit who needs a good beating. It totally destroys the Vader image.

I have no respect for the character. I don't dread his turning to the Dark Side. I look forward to it because maybe then he'll stop whining.
 
the new movies really needed more work. better actors and better scripts.
george lucas has done better. maybe he just doesnt care bc he has so much money
 
Hmm, you do have a point. Even from the trailer, where Kenobi screams, "You were the chosen one!" ...where did it ever seem that way? A prodigy, sure, but nothing amazing or Yoda-replacing. Boo, Lucas. Boo urns.

Of course I'll still be watching Ep III ASAP. 😛

i don't think lucas wrote the scripts on the first 3. i think he just directed and came up with the plot line and main twists
 
On the other hand, we now know who Luke gets his whining from.

Though Lea is her mother through and through. She will act all dignified one second, then proceed to gun down storm troopers the next.

I think that as a whole, they would have been better if they'd started off with Anakin as an adult/teenager and spent more time focusing on character development

Very good point. We could have skipped the whole "Ani" and "midichlorians" crap. Completely unnecessary.

That...and the fact that he aged 15 years while Padme aged about 3 😛

I'm sorry...but I just couldn't choke down that part. The casting/aging process just did not play off well from Ep1 to Ep2.
 
At the end of ROTJ (the newest edition), Anakin appears as a "Blue glowy", so I think that tries to say that he was once a good guy who fell from grace. I agree that the prequels don't reflect this though, at least not yet...
 
No it's because George Lucas wrote the dialogue for the prequels and not the original guy(forgot his name). But from what I hear Lucas redeems himself with this last movie.

It will be ok.

There will be death, space battles, lightsaber fights out the wazoo, evilness, explosions, lava, disfigurement, intrigue, throwing crap around with telekinesis, force lightning, Etc.
