saved john smith?

and apparently, this series isn't just about an alternate future where the allies lost.

I didn't read this thread until I finished the first season and I'm glad I didn't. Some people had appropriate spoiler tags, but not everyone did. Had I read those non-spoiler-tagged spoilers, I would have been quite irritated.

Anyhow, good series. A little slow at times, but on the other hand it did feel like they didn't rush things too much like so many other series. My main beef with it was that it also felt like there were too many small coincidences in the show, which made some of the plot seemed too forced. Nonetheless, I liked the overall premise of the show, and am very much looking forward to season 2.

I'm also curious how much Japanese and German some of these actors learned. I was also impressed at the American accent by some of the non-American actors, given that I didn't know they weren't Americans until after I saw interviews they did after watching the series.

I finished the season yesterday. There's room for improvement but I liked it a lot, definitely has potential to be something good. The whole film thing is mysterious, I hope we learn more from it if there's another season.
So, is Hitler technically the MITHC? Since he's watching the Juliana movie that the resistance supposedly got to him.

Presumably. But if that's the case, who does the resistance think they are working for? Do they ever give you any hint about that because it seemed pretty bizarre even at the time I watched it.

Heh... the ending had me briefly rooting for Hitler to survive. Think about that for a second... you know that a show is different when Hitler isn't the biggest bad guy in it :)

So, you're saying that the resistance is sending Hitler the videos in order to show him that the world would have been better off without him? I don't think that would work... Hitler doesn't seem like a very touchy feely guy to me.

Guess I'm kind of confused, I thought they inferred that TMITHC was the man making these films, but I also thought he was the one requesting the resistance send them to him, it can't be both so which is it? If it's the latter, I'm thinking Hitler must have infiltrated the resistance to the point where they don't know it's him they're getting them to, remember they supposedly don't even see the films so they shouldn't even know what's on them to show him how things could be.

Bracket the text with {spoiler}{/spoiler} - except use square rather than curly brackets.

Or you can hit the reply button to take you to the full editor. There you will see a spoiler button. Just highlight the text you want blacked out and hit that button.

And here we go:

1. What the hell was up with the ending to ep. 10? I mean the actual last 10 seconds with the trade minister. You knew Juliana was a chicken shit...

2. Didn't see that one coming with Ed. Knew he was a good a loyal friend, but what the hell was that all about?

3. So Hitler is a man in a high castle, but is he the man? As weird is that sounds, I am getting a creepy sci-fi vibe with a "rift in time and space" feeling. Also, that ending gives me the vibe of "special powers". None of this is what i was looking for in this show.

That is all. I am interested in Season 2. Just cause I need some damn answers.

I feel ya. Sometimes you don't want things to be explained but other times, if you don't explain anything, it looks like you're pretending that your lazy writing is actually art - that you want each viewer to have their own interpretation.

Maybe they're just setting us up for season 2 but I'm curious as to how this was handled in the book. I think I actually read somewhere in my distant pass but nothing in the series really looked familiar.

Threads full of spoilers bars suck.

For the weekly show threads like Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, it's understood that spoilers are fair game for anything up to the latest aired episode.

For these dump-released shows, I think people should just understand to avoid the threads until they're finished with the season.

And of course, these threads are for show watchers. Book/Comic readers need not apply and keep their goddamn knowledge to themselves or make their own thread.

I know Phillip K. Dick is a renowned scifi author but I felt seriously cheated by this show. I don't know if the book explains the origin of the films, but if not, that sucks. It's like he wanted to talk about the issue of parallel universes but didn't know enough about the idea to create a believable explanation.

The novel has no films even in it. So that was a plot device created solely for the tv show. There is a book in the novel, that I guess is the basis of the concept of the films in the tv show. But it's not really the same thing, or even a huge focus of the majority of the story. I think the tv show really has very little to do with the novel other than the broad concept of alternate history.
(and I still stand by my statement way back towards the beginning of the thread that the book is one of the worst books I've ever read. Honestly sounds like the show is infinitely better since it actually has a plot. I haven't watched any except the first episode though).

This is an example of a show with an awesome first episode, and then horrible episodes ever since.

Thanks for this. I must've missed your earlier comment, but aside from the fairly enormous leap it takes to imagine that the US could be conquered, I've enjoyed the series enough to consider reading the book. Won't bother now.

Thanks for the info. Although in terms of the show having a plot, that seems debatable. If you're going to call something a plot it has to make some amount of sense and this one just doesn't. It's hard to imagine that the book would be even worse.

I decided to give this a shot, even though I am not a huge PKD fan. I'm almost through the first season, and honestly I don't quite get the rave reviews this show received. Pretty much all the actors seem capable of basically one emotion and two facial expressions, and I still don't have a clue how these films are supposed to relate to the plot.

Probably will finish the season, but not sure it has grabbed me enough to carry on from there.
