It's Damon Lindelof, so I'll be skipping this one. Dude never knows how to actually explain things, just likes to create a bunch of WTF situations. I especially have little to no interest in this show because the premise is so outlandish which means the eventual "answers" will be equally outlandish and that's just frustrating.

I don't know. Not explaining a show like this would work better, IMO, than trying to explain it. People disappeared and nobody knows why. The show can focus solely on how people deal with it, not how it happened, and actually be good. Now, will that actually happen here? Who knows. Also, Lost wasn't good.

Between myself and the handful of people I know who watched the trailer, all of us wanted to know why they all disappeared, that was by far the most intriguing plot line. If they aren't going to answer that question then there's zero reason to have such an outlandish event take place at all. And the other problem is that if something like that can happen in the show, then the writers can continue to show crazy things and just hide behind the unexplained magic/aliens/supernatural card which is really dull.

Agreed, while I am very interested in the show I will lose interest pretty rapidly if they do not explain the event pretty soon (even if it's just a reveal in a closed door political meeting).

You guys focus entirely too much on what is a plot device. Who cares why the disappeared? Did you hate "In Time" because it was never actually explained how the time stuff came to be?

OK I'm out, I didn't realize he was involved. Not investing in his shit after Lost.

Asking an audience to suspend their believe on the main plot device for 2 hours while you delve into story/characters isn't the same as 2+ years.

Also, yes, that bothered me with that movie but I still watched because it was a small investment.

I hate "In Time" because it sucked.

The disappearance plot device is just the tip of the iceberg on this show. That hack Damon Lindleoff is already starting to pepper in a bunch of nonsense that will never be answered, or answered stupidly. I learned my lesson with Lost and Prometheus and after 2 episodes of the same old shit, I'm done with this one.

What exactly wasn't answered in Prometheus? Everything that was left unanswered was intended to be as such, and has been as such since the start of the Alien franchise.

Can't see the youtube at work, but the website is pretty stupid. David's motivations are to get Weyland to the "creators" to keep him alive indefinitely. Why does David poison Holloway? For science, same as in Alien, you know, where the android tried to preserve the alien and let everyone die in the process?

David was also the first to remove his helmet and 'test' the air, now of course there could be consequences, but if you're willing to suspend belief that there is an organism that can evolve extremely rapidly, but can't accept there was no bacterial infections that would kill everyone, you're stupid.

Vickers was a bitch because her father (who she knew was alive) was wasting all these resources to find some fountain of youth, rather than just dying and giving her everything she was entitled to. She didn't believe this alien nonsense, or even care about it. She wanted her money. Now, why she came along might be a more interesting question.

The pilot (and his crew) were going to go "down with the ship" and based on assumptions using scans and some knowledge (the scientists being killed by that goop) that this was a military facility and the ship was header for Earth, he destroyed it.

I think most of you didn't actually watch the fucking movie. And, guess what? Every movie with and kind of plot has holes in it. Fucking deal with it.

The LOST series, up to the ultimate series finale explained the meaning of human life. the most secret confidential knowledge.

Oh, this is going to be fun.

How did the geologist with the 3D map of the cave get lost? Twice. Down a hall with no branches, one room (discovered) and an exit.

Why did they go play in the black goo and with the alien-snake if they were afraid to check out the first room they ran from?

I never watched Lost, but did watch about half the first season of Under the Dome and The Leftovers reminds me of Under the Dome in a way. Which means I probably won't be watching it too much longer. lol

Well you're the first person I've ever seen defend this movie as a non-retarded pile of shit.

It was a decent movie set in a great universe. Technically, it was also really well done. The casting was kind of silly (because who the fuck didn't see Idris Elba having a major role later in the movie?) and the story wasn't perfect, but as an Alien horror/thriller movie prequel, it was decent. It certainly was much better than Alien Resurrection.

Anyone still watching? I liked the episode last week that focused on Father Jamison. I don't know if it's the actor or the character but I really like the character in the show. Eccleston is doing a great job with it.

I kind of like how they focused on him for the whole episode and it looks like they are focusing on the "Nora" character in the next episode.

So far it seems to me the show is less about the "event" and more about the downward spiral of people that are still there. Maybe that's too obvious and turns people away, but I'm okay with it. Garvey's slow decline into psychosis (or just alcoholism) and fearing he'll turn out like his father.

The last couple episodes have been pretty good IMO.

Hmm, where have we seen that before...

jacks-dad-lost-022410-lg.jpg

The problem with not going into how and why the event happened, is that it makes it pointless to call bullshit on anything strange that happens in the show because hey, in this world people can vanish in the blink of an eye! Why are people randomly deciding to forgo their friends and family and join a cult ("It's not a cult!") where you smoke all day, wear white and stalk other people? Who cares, because in this world people vanish in the blink of an eye! If the writers don't have to explain that miracle, then they certainly won't feel the need to explain anything else that doesn't make sense.

Again, I've never seen an episode of Lost, so comparisons to it mean nothing to me.

For someone that has zero interest in the show and isn't going to watch it, you sure seem interested in talking about it. But hey, knock yourself out. My question/post was more geared to people that actually are interested in it (enough to continue to watching it).

Still watching, and still enjoying. However... The fact that there are so many mysteries, and zero answers, will get frustrating if they don't start revealing something.

This statement might be premature... But it's almost as if they wrote each episode based on questions, and will figure out the answers as they go along.

Which, I hear, is kind of like what Lost was... Although I never saw a single episode.

I'm giving it a shot, doesn't cost me much to watch the first few episodes to see if maybe Lindelof has changed his tune. But it doesn't look likely.
