Hate you all. Will buy this weekend.
So what that means is if you want this, wait till the mid-week sale as GREAT probability..... It WILL go on sale next week. :'(

the game is still deep in beta and probably wont be complete for a long time. You may as well spend the money cuz theres no way to be sure what the final product is worth. They might add an amazing amount of features between now and then, so you'd not only have tons of practice, but would have gotten onboard at a low price.

I finally docked a ship, the first attempt my docking ship grazed 4 extended solar panels creating a huge debris cloud. In this picture I accidentally ejected my fuel tank and engine from the return craft, it kindof sucked to watch it drift away. I plan of adding more to this, although I wish I could make something that looked better.

it helps to put a small probe unit on every item that you plan to separate, that way you always have control over loose items (a solar panel and small SAS module help too).

I was able to get 4 ports to line up and dock at once, it took a few tries, here is the result. I have another space station, it's will be a prime target for a collision in the future, hopefully I don't end up reenacting gravity.

I bought it off steam.... Liking it so far.
What's the best site for tips and tricks? Wiki (My usual "Go To" is OK.
After a week of playing I just found out that I get more science when I CLICK on the capsule and save a report. HELL, I can land safely on earth and collect samples there for "Free" science points.
I suspect this weekend I will LOVE the game.
I SOOOOOOO need that stabilizing flight thing. I cant steer a rocket ship for sheet.
Trying like hell to keep Jebadyah (Spelling I am sure) alive.

The KSP website has a forum with a subsection for beginners. They have links to beginner videos. They weren't 100k views or anything(at least when I checked) but they explained everything pretty well.

I added 2 more sections to my space station. I counted that each module has 17 docking ports on the inner 2 sections, and 21 on the outer modules. I think I'm getting close to the limits of my computer, the game turns into a slide show as more and more craft are docked to it. It's orbit fluctuates between 91k and 106k.

Here is a better view of how large this station is.

2014-03-28_00007.jpg

I have 3 ships docked with it now. I is a 3 man capsule that I may take out to the moon sometime.

One of the other ones is a craft with 6 single kerbal pods that I can use to get back to earth.

The last one is in a similar layout, but it has lights and xeon engines and rcs thrusters to dock to ports and light up the rest of the ship. Docked towards the right side of the space station.

The most important thing for noobs to remember is theres bucket loads of science before you even start flying.

Make a ship with just 3 command modules. And one radio antenna.

Do crew reports from the launch pad. Do EVA reports from the launch pad. (transmit both if possible).

Get out and on the ground. Take at least two surface samples (one per astronaut).
End mission, collect all your pilots from the tracking station, and all loose vehicles.
You should have a crapload of points.

Do the exact same thing from the runway, only this time build a vessel in the hanger instead of the tower. 3 command modules, 3 pilots. Pick up soil and EVA and crew reports.

Do it again in the open area BETWEEN the runway and launch pad. Thats known as KSC, kerbal space center.

Tons of points before you ever light off an engine.

When you finally start using engines, just get yourself into the water. Obviously you need parachutes.

Do the same thing, crew report, EVA report, and yes, soil samples. Make sure you get two samples for full science points. Again, use a transmitter for the crew reports to simplify your life.

UPDATE!

Still on version .23, but they added asteroids (and things to do with them) and a claw part. Needs research if in career mode, but it only costs 160 and isnt too far up the chain.

oh, and they added a super mega size everything. Rockomax is no longer king.
And some new junk like liquid boosters, improvements to UI, speed accelerating in the tracking station and on the ground.

I really love the recently new heavy rockets engines. I know that we've had them for awhile from mods but I prefer to use vanilla parts where possible. The game is really coming along. What I really want now (without mods) is a simple display that shows delta V per stage in the VAB and orbital information when in ship view. It's annoying having to switch to orbital view just to find out when to cut my engines. Perhaps that is just an oversight on my part though. :p

Do your engine work in the map mode.

I like watching my rocket in camera view as it goes through it's various stages of launch. All I'm asking for is Camera view to include Apoapsis/Periapsis data so that I can better judge when to shut my engine off without changing views. After that I can switch to map view, set my destination, and then go back to camera view for burns. For me the visual feedback of my spacecraft doing its thing is just as important and what it's actually doing.

This is honestly one of the top 10 "games" ever created. Been playing on and off for a long time, but I still suck at it. I finally managed to land on the Mun the other night, but more of a crash than a landing. Jebediah survived, but the lander/return vehicle was destroyed.

Still, seriously, this is SO worth the money. Especially with the sale right now, $16. This is endless entertainment.

Oh, and they also tweaked some old stuff.

Remember those mini 1.5 engines? They now get 4.0
The Xenon thruster? Used to get 0.5, now gets 2.0.

And the stats look the same, but I swear the nuclear engine is a LOT more useful at ground level with max atmosphere. I was able to get off Kerbin and slip out of orbit with just a small fuel tank (the 45/55).

Oh good

it always seemed like these econoengines were woefully underpowered....especially xenon

well, xenon still isnt good enough to give you any lift. Its only for adjusting orbit of very light vehicles. And it still does that.

what is the limiting hardware

PROBABLY CPU, as each and every part needs its physics constantly calculated and once you get massive rockets or stations with loads of individual items, it gets complicated.

Just for laughs I made a long skinny vessel with a buttload of struts. They too have tension and stress and pressure which must be calculated. Get enough of them, the game slows down.

multi threaded?

so should a 8350 run this game well?
