Yeah the career mode seriously needs to be rebalanced. Getting to orbit should give you enough money to unlock enough things to be able to orbit the mun. And getting to the mun should unlock enough things to be able to land on the mun. And then interplanetary, etc. They should have some hard-wired progression contracts that mimic the space race instead of just a bunch of random part tests and such.

Don't get into KSP now unless you're willing to either deal with an unfinished product, or deal with as many mods as it takes to make the game to your liking. There are a crapton of mods, most of them pretty good, but it can be a pain to deal with and that's a rabbit hole that never ends.

It was enough on the early versions. Then they added money and budgets and shit and now you really gotta do a lot just to make any progress. Its kind of a pain.

I also dont like having a dozen biomes on MUN. And I wish I could get 100 percent of the science from transmitting.

But the game is still awesome.

KSP can be quite confusing when you start playing it, and 20x as confusing if you start in the career at this point in time. For a kid, it would have to be sandbox all the way, but whether they would like it or not (because you almost have to watch videos to help you figure things out); I guess it depends on if they are big into space and/or building games.

KSP and Prison Architect are two early access games that are BETTER if you got in early. I don't like the current direction of either of them after having played through 10-20 beta builds. They just keep layering more and more into the game, which is good and bad. The good is that regular updates keep the game fresh; the bad is that they both feel a bit like games with expansions (complex for new players compared to when they first went on early access).

Well, the tagline is "how hard can rocket science be, anyway?" so you've got to expect a serious learning curve. Playing sandbox or science mode and using MechJeb will cut that down a lot, though.

I'd think science mode would be easier than sandbox, just because otherwise it's easy to be overwhelmed by the number of parts. Science mode adds them in gradually.

Defiantly agree with you on the sandbox mode, I went over to my brothers' house for Christmas and he was playing the demo in sandbox mode. I ended up buying the game and gifting it to him without him knowing and then told him to play in regular science mode. Some of the stuff he had built was ridiculously complex.

Even if they did stop developing the game now, I still think that I've gotten my moneys worth out of the game.

Got my 64 Kerbals to Duna. All stock, no mechjeb.

Took a while to design the monster lifter and all, and took forever to get them all of the lander (and got laggy too).

It's official: Kerbal Space Program is coming to GOG.com this Monday, in a day-one release!

For those of you that don't know, it's a game of spaceship building (and - more often than not - prompt spaceship-destroying, or at least spaceship-crash-landing) as you strive to create your own space program with the huge help of little pilot helpers that seem to lack basic survival instincts.

It'll be appearing on Monday - I'm not yet sure at exactly what time, but I'll share it if I find out a bit beforehand!

So, who's excited? I know I am!

[EDIT] There'll be a pre-release stream of the game with Scott Manley himself (you may know him better as szyzyg from YouTube, the guy that made Kerbals surf) at Twitch.tv/GOGcom tonight, 10pm GMT (6pm EDT/3pm PDT)!

If you read this after Sunday, check the past broadcasts section for the stream :)

I started playing this game when it when fully released at 1.02.

Started a career mode game and dug into Scott Manley's videos for beginners. I think I'm 2 years into the career and have:

Kerbal space station.
Mun base, small but it's there. Adding a science thingie this weekend.
Minimus landing and back.
Duna landing probe.

This game is awesome.

Hate to bump this but there is a career mission that I can't figure out. Even using Google with quotes yields me nothing.

"Be in command of satellite."
Don't understand that part. I have used a probodobodyne by itself, all used the probodobodyne with capsule/pilot and transferred control back and forth.

No, no, no, no, no. Theres ALREADY a probe. You need to find it from the tracking station, then take control and start the mission.

LOL, so much for reading! Me that is, I read what you said; then go look at my screen shot.... (sigh). "Satellite is currently in orbit of the Mun".

Well, that will be an easy mission I hope.

Thank you.

Thats OK.

If you think about it, thats sort of a strange mission. Normally you have to build something new.

they released new mission in the 1.05 update. Could also be part of remotetech too.
