I think it looks pretty cool in concept, though I would want some kind of pull down keyboard. What's the point of a computer device if you still have to write by hand? I would rather be able to still type, but then be able to also make diagrams directly in the document, which is where a tablet PC is really awesome.

Apple has this weird marketing where anything they make is always the winner, so it sadly probably wont be the ipad killer, even though it can do more.

maybe it has some sort of handwriting translating ability

Yeah, if you watch the video you'll see it does. As someone who has a lot of experience using a tablet PC with Windows, I have to say that MS's handwriting recognition is pretty damn good.

I agree with you in terms of consumer electronics, but not in general. MS has released a ton of innovative software just in the past 5 years and continue to do so.

And they also have some pretty innovative stuff coming out of their pure research divisions.

Kind of old news now, but just FYI...

No Courier for You! Microsoft Kills Its Dual-Screen Tablet Project

While the iPad has had a wildly successful launch, one tablet we were looking forward to testing was Microsoft's Courier, which first debuted last year at Gizmodo's Gallery event in New York. The dual-screen tablet prototype had been secretly developed by Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices department (where the Xbox and Zune also incubated), but that development seems to have been halted as of this morning.

Must have took a lot of effort for Microsoft to kill off a Flash demo :D

Seriously, Courier was just a planned leak by Microsoft to try and counter iPad sales. There's no way a device like that could ever be made by Microsoft.

well since HP bought palm and they have stated to want a WebOS powered tablet, I think killing the slate was a good idea. I for one look forward to a WebOS tablet.

Lol at iPad killer. Why would someone want to compete for a product there is no need for in the first place? Kinda like a pet rock killer.

Wow I am so disappoint...I was planning on getting it if it performed like the flash demos.

Wow, they killed the surface? I was pitching a startup that was more or less the MS Surface...then I quit pursuing it after I found out about the Surface.

Surface is alive and well, i dunno WTF you guys are talking about. The Courier was never announced, promised, etc....it was TECH DEMO. It would have been great, but the hardware just isn't there yet. People chill the FFFFUUUCCCKKK out with the anti-MS FUD.

LOL, I know, the Courier demo was pretty unrealistic considering today's current screen & battery technology.

5 years from now, maybe, but today it's have to be pretty large to accommodate the batteries it'd need to be functional for more that an hour or so, and the touch interface is years away from being polished enough for consumer use...

So, it was an iPad induced abortion?

Rumormill is currently saying google will be producing their own tablet..which may in the end be made by HTC, but w/e

One can only hope it works better than their last collaboration, the Nexus One...

Check out the 2K+ long thread about the touchscreen... (they used a touchscreen that was never designed for multitouch)

Google killed the 3G/radio thread and announced they're not going to work on it any longer.

I'm not even going to list all my issues with the damn thing... If anyone's interested, just browse the support forums.
