5 years from now, people will not recognize their computers. Things are going to go thin client. It's when, not if.
the day my entire computing experience is controlled by a closed-source app store where Microsoft or Apple have to approve any app and can delete any app they don't like for any reason is the day I start building a shack out in the wilderness.

Why does everyone seem to forget that Apple is not the only way to get an app on the iPhone? You can release a webapp that delivers the same functionality.

HAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHA!!!!! What utter nonsense! The iPad will reign supreme, just like the iPod and iPhone. Just face it, Apple products are better than anything else on the market. Fools fool themselves into thinking they made a superior purchase whenever they buy the next "iKiller" product, but the fact is they just wasted their money on useless garbage. lol Everyone knows this.

Not even close. Shitty screen, as it is now is riddled with software problems, and even if you stick a different OS on there you're not going to have usable battery life (its what 2-3 hours with the stripped down setup it comes with). All that for $500? Yeah, no thanks. Oh, and I forgot to mention, who knows how Fusion Garage is for support, let alone if they'll even be around long enough to support it.

The Courier is cool, but its just a concept so far, and while it seems that Microsoft might have realized people would want one and are still developing it as an actual product, it will be a while before we'd be able to buy one. By then it'll be like the Zune, cool, but it likely won't live up to its potential.

There are two major points that I like about the iPad, the IPS screen and the battery life. The price is a bit much for me, but something tells me most other companies will not get both things right. Also, it would seem that Apple's touchscreens work a bit better than other companies'. There is better touch tech out, but the chances of a company utilizing that, getting a good quality screen, having good software, being not huge, not even more expensive than the iPad, and having great battery life just is not going to happen. Instead, we'll end up with a bunch of crap running Netbook hardware with cheap screens and an OS not aimed at touch usage, smartphone hardware with poor software support (Google's OSes are not ready for a product like the iPad), and a bunch of other junk. The best I've seen was a Tegra 2 based one, but I'm going to guess it will have a crappy screen and not be stellar software wise and likely have not too great battery life.

I'm not even saying the iPad is perfect. I hate the screen resolution. I hate the addons (should have had a MicroSD slot...), its too pricey (I think Apple basically even said they left plenty of room to drop the price if its not doing as well as they hope like they did with the iPhone), and it just needs time to be properly considered as a platform (apps, prices, web content). It is however, likely to be the best overall experience of lightweight tablets for a while.

better than ipad, hardware you can actually modify easily.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/05/fusion-garage-joojoo-review/

LULZ, from the review

There are just so many things we wish Fusion Garage did differently with the JooJoo. Even putting aside the fact that Apple's $499 iPad brings more to the table than just web browsing, the JooJoo is less portable, has a worse (if larger) screen, is unintuitive to use, and ships with half-baked software. We commend the start-up on its nice piece of hardware design, but until the software is given some much-needed love and the price is seriously reevaluated we simply cannot recommend this tablet. To add insult to injury, Apple's entry level iPad provides a much more seamless and feature-packed experience, and there are plenty of $199-ish ARM-based tablets just around the corner.

Did we read the same review, or did I miss something?

The ipad is a closed system . The other tablet is not.
If you want a product that is just what the company making it wants it to be then get an ipad. I like things I can customize to do what I want and this product does that. I can upgrade ram, storage, change the OS , etc.

LOL, you need to re-read that review, the JooJoo is a massive pile of crap.

If you want an open OS, there will be many, better options very soon. Id take an Archos tablet over that thing, they're horrible, the Dell Android tablets are looking good too. http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/04/17/dells-7-inch-and-10-inch-streak-get-pictured-dated/

I have seen the internals of one taken apart first hand, so the hardware is there, it just needs the correct software. I never buy anything from companies that limit what I can do with the hardware that includes apple, dell, hp or any other major oem.

Even Microsoft engineers admit the Courier is vaporware and they are still trying to figure out how to get decent battery life while powering two screen. iPad killer, lol.

Courier: Not even in production yet (all concept designs). So we'll see this maybe 3 or 4 years into the future.
HP Slate: Windows 7 condensed into a tablet form. You can't make a desktop OS into a tablet OS. You need to have a specifically designed OS for it. Yeah HP Slate plays Flash videos but with the same screen? battery life?. Yeah it has an Atom processor and a gig of ram but that's all because Windows 7 needs it.
JooJoo: read the engadget review. it's sh*t.

No, Modelworks, the hardware is not there. The software is not there. The value is not there. The JooJoo is garbage, and you are desperately trying to find some kind of justification to make it "better" than the iPad. You can't. The iPad is simply a better product. In a few months the JooJoo will be forgotten. No one will be foolishly trying to install linux, or BSD on it. No one will support it, and everyone who bought one will be wishing they bought an iPad instead. lol and what exactly do you do with your non-limited hardware, Modelworks? Heh, I'm sure you just install what other people have already coded and claim you have 'customized' your equipment. lol. Good luck with that. The JooJoo is utter garbage and no one will be supporting it. Everyone knows this.

I think it looks pretty cool in concept, though I would want some kind of pull down keyboard. What's the point of a computer device if you still have to write by hand? I would rather be able to still type, but then be able to also make diagrams directly in the document, which is where a tablet PC is really awesome.

Apple has this weird marketing where anything they make is always the winner, so it sadly probably wont be the ipad killer, even though it can do more.
