Nah look at the a6-1450, the A4-1250/E-350 are heavely cpu bottlenecked, BT is way faster than that, but slower on igp.

However, earlier in the thread it was mentioned even Bay Trail is CPU bottlenecked in Team Fortress 2:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost...postcount=1006

So I am very skeptical on the usefulness of these Extra EUs for gaming. (Maybe there are some upcoming games that scale to quad core cpu, but don't need much single thread performance?)

Source engine games (particularly tf2) are notoriously CPU constrained- very little is on the GPU so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that.

Dell Venue 8 Pro Available for Under $100 / €73 at Microsoft Stores on Monday

The sale kicks off on Monday, with Microsoft awarding the Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet for just $99 / €72. Normally, the device will cost you $299.99 / €220 so this makes for an incredible good deal, but before you jump for joy, you should be aware there’s a caveat here.

The Microsoft online store is also offering the promotion. So the first 100 shoppers ordering the slate will be able to grab it for $99 / €72. After the initial products are cleared out, the price will increase to $199 / €146 for the rest of the day.

Hah, better than any deal I saw on Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Too bad it is in-store only...

Intel to offer tablet platforms for various segments in 2014, say Taiwan makers

Intel has worked out an ambitious roadmap offering CPU platforms for entry-level to high-end tablet models in 2014, according to sources with Taiwan's tablet supply chain.

Intel has launched Bay Trail-T supporting Windows 8/8.1 and will launch Android-supporting models at the end of 2013, the sources indicated.

Intel will launch entry-level Android-supporting Bay Trail (Z3735D series) specifically for use in 7-inch tablets priced at US$99-129 and 7- to 8-inch models at US$149-199 in first-quarter 2014, the sources said. The Bay Trail and Cherry Trail platforms also target 8- to 10-inch tablets priced at US199-249 and 10-inch models above US$249, the sources indicated.

In September 2014, Intel will unveil Cherry Trail, a platform based on 14nm Airmont architecture and supporting 32- and 64-bit Windows 8/8.1 and Android, the sources noted. Intel will also release Windows- and Android-supporting Willow Trail based on 14nm Goldmont architecture in fourth-quarter 2014, the sources added.

In addition to tablets, Intel will launch 22nm-based Merrifield and Moorefield for smartphones in first-quarter and third-quarter 2014 respectively, the sources indicated, adding the two platforms can be used in Android tablets as well.

Interesting rumour by DigiTimes. Thats the second time they mention Cherry Trail in September followed by Willow Trail in Q4. Also, new Bay Trail model Z3735D targeting cheap 7-8'' Android tablets. :)

What should we expect the difference to be between Cherrytrail and Willowtrail? Is willowtrail part of Broxton?

That article is suggesting that Intel need to release new chips to support Android. Rather a pity that they aren't ready till next year. Intel have missed out on Android sales this Christmas.

Intel is already in android products using clovertrail+. (See Dell Venue series--not pro series). It's the Baytrail android stuff that won't be ready until early next year.

Looks to me this is based on the digitimes news which makes it useless. Intel itself called Broxton a 2015 product, it doesn't make sense that Broxton comes just 2-3 months after Cherry Trail. More likely a year after Cherry Trail. With a bit of luck mid 2015.

It appears the atom 3735D will be a 1.33 ghz base clock quad core bay trail tablet chip. Who knows on the turbo, if it has it all (if it does have turbo probably less than the 3740 which has the same base clock but turbos up to 1.86 ghz since the model 3735 is less than 3740).

Repeating some of what sweepr said above

Intel goals according to sources Q1 2014
7" Tablet $99-$129 (even these cheap tablets will be use atom baytrail Z3735D silicon)
8" Tablet starting at $149
10" Tablet starting at $249

holy crap, thats just going to create a bunch of pissed off people. 199 is good enuff for everybody

Goes to show how popular the solution is. Ms is killing BT more than the other way. Android solutions cant come soon enough.

What a waste of ressources for what? Bragging right for sales numbers. Sad. I guess the shareholders will be the ones most pissed off ;)

I think you're misinterpreting the sale. It was a door buster, designed to get people in the store. You do that by offering a great deal on a popular product. It was not a desperation sale.

Nonsense its heavily subsidized from both Intel and MS. This is just a single example. If there was huge demand the prices would go up. Not the other way. And the product would sell by itself like eg nexus tablets.

Wimdows 8 is not working and not selling. Its very simple. People dont use a tablet for excell. Ms needs to do something radically different. And Intel needs to move to android as fast as possible, and i am pretty sure they are working full steam on that.

It was a sale on 10 items at the store. 10. Of course Microsoft is taking a loss on those items, but not because they needed to clear inventory and get them out of the store. It was a door buster. Get people in the door by selling a popular item cheaply, and hopefully they stick around and buy your other stuff too.

As to Windows 8. I've used it with a traditional desktop. Mixed results. However, it comes into its own with a touch interface and is actually very nice.

Anyways, to make this more on topic, the Venue 8 pro runs really nicely. I've used Miracast to project it TVs and Monitors without a hitch. Combined with a BT keyboard and mouse and it works well as a workstation. Latency is an issue with games (maybe 100ms), but simple office work runs smoothly.

There does seem to be a performance hit as you connect additional devices. With Miracast, WiFi, and a few BT devices active, the device definitely runs noticeably slower (not slow, just slower) than without. I assume most of that is because of throttling due to thermal constraints.

Pretty much agree with this, the only time I use my Android tablets these days is if I forget to charge my W8 tablet (HP Elitepad - clovertrail).

The wife prefers it (The W8 tablet) to her ipad also, she's getting a baytrail tablet shortly. Kind of comes down to personal preference here though as far as the OS is concerned.

Looking at the 8" Dell also, but might spring for something with a higher resolution screen.

Edit; and yes, I use my tablet fairly often with Excel, not so much to do my main work, but I do use it to refer back to spreadsheets, edit if necessary, and if I'm in the field I can, and have, put together proposals if necessary. Maybe I'm the exception here though.

Performance does not look good there, especially considering the horsepower behind BT. Android has been ported to x86, I imagine at some point people will get it to actually dual-boot.

Yeah. Bluestacks runs "okay" on the dell venue 8 pro. Definitely has slow downs , even in candy crush, but usable.

Asus has dual booting BT tablets coming in early 2014 according to FCC filings. With how hard Intel is going towatds android, I bet we'll see dual boot Core laptops in a year.
