The day it was happening I heard someone say "I'm guessing they'll find at least one upper decker"

Close enough.

It seems to me that violently storming the Capitol, while Congress is in session, with the express intent of forcing Congress to overturn the will of the People, should warrant a lot more consequence than just losing your job.

The image that sticks in my head is that of a guy with a long handled sledge hammer at what seems to be mid-swing. Shows his intent for bringing it in all of his seditionist glory. Hope he's pounding big rocks into little rocks earning his keep at one of our fine correctional institutions after the establishment gets through with him.

Sophomoric drivel.

Some few people might be in dire straights, and need to steal to eat. But these people chose to go out of their way, with many traveling across multiple states, to attack the Capitol. There was no NEED to do that. They just wanted to do that.

Certainly it's sad, that they are deluded morons, and maybe we can work on some forgiveness when their prison sentence is up, and if the psych report indicates they have come back to reality.
You called me sophomoric so let me seek your more sophisticated explanation. If it wasn’t NEED to do that but ‘want’ that was responsible, where did that want come from?

Don’t worry too much, however, if you can’t get any farther than because, because, because. It is perfectly normal for people who make unconscious and unexamined assumptions to simply assume they are right. It’s the very reason the Trump cult blames everybody but themselves including that Trump had the election stolen from him and them.

Ethnic food for pasty white people. (I'm a pasty white guy, and not sure how anyone eats it, but my very conservative in laws think its amazing).

I think this is because Andersen Cooper said something about how the seditionists couldn't just go back to the their Holiday Inns and eat dinner at Olive Garden like nothing happened.

Obviously I don't think anyone is blaming Olive Garden for anything, but they still have more integrity than 70% of the republicans in the House.

Interesting that what we're finding out about some of these people is that they all seem fairly well off? They seem to have pretty well paying jobs.

I don't know if that's even more frightening? These aren't desperate people about to be evicted and on the street. They have something to lose and still did this. Committed.

Economic anxiety.

That’s gonna be a very, very long bus ride back to Alaska.
I wonder if the terrorist watch list applies to the state ran ferry too. If so, probably won't be seeing much of them in the lower 48 again.

the white middle class is the most terrified, because they have plenty to lose and thanks to how they vote, they are very likely to lose it.
They also believe they have more control than they actually do, and they are in danger of breaking that illusion of control, which is terrifying.
Do you remember Brexit's slogan?

Middle class, right wing nuts have a very distorted view of taxes.

Do you have a point, other than spouting aimless drivel?

These people went on a rampage, causing havoc and death, aiming to overthrow an election.

They deserve prison, at the very least.

We could write textbooks on how Trump manipulates his followers, but that doesn't absolve them.

Just like Nazis burning Jews in gas ovens, we don't really have to sympathize and make excuses for followers doing heinous acts, and them being pressured or manipulated doesn't absolve them.

At the end of the day, they are responsible for their terrible decisions.
