My sister in law makes this really good warm potato salad...or at least that's what she calls it. It's almost like mashed potatoes..but not. Haven't had it in years....might need to hit her up for the recipe.

German Potato salad I imagine, it's typically warm. Getting ready to make a double batch of scalloped myself, been peeling and slicing, the wife usually handles the saucier end :)

Making one batch with ham, the other regular.

I love all potatoes.

I'm a sucker for potato salad. Even if I buy potato salad from a store, I can easily polish off a 2 pound container within a day. The best has mayo and lots of eggs. If I buy it from the grocery I typically add a generous amount of diced celery and onion to whatever is there.

Steamed or roasted baby red potatoes. Love.

Maybe the best potatoes of all, though, are whole potatoes (and carrots) roasted in the pan along with a roast.

We all know it's lower than that....and that's before adding alcohol :D (no offense intended Zin)

I guess since I know I've had testicles at some point in my life...if it was cooked right, I would give it a try, but you might have to trick me into it.

Oh it's way lower. :D

Ore-Ida used to make shredded hash browns with cheddar cheese that was fantastic, so of course they stopped making it. Haven't been able to duplicate it using their plain shredded hash browns and adding the cheese.

wut? you are clearly not adding enough shit to the top of said potato. this is america. we are fat here. add some bacon. hell, add the grease too. add sour cream on top of the bacon on top of the potato. add extra coarse salt on top of the sour cream on top of the grease on top of the bacon on top of the potato. Then just wait for the heart attack to arrive.
Why not just fry the potato in the bacon grease and have a delicious, low effort, quickly prepared potato in the first place?

I'm already plenty fat, I'm not about to waste any of my precious caloric intake on useless stuff like "sour cream"

Bacon of course, is always appreciated, and also garlic and butter too.

My Dad always made great soups and stews in our house, and he frequently made potato soup. I'd always wanted to make some, but never did, until today. I looked up some recipes online, but most of them were somewhat involved - with things like bacon, leeks, cream, and spices that I don't have. I figured I'd just start simple. And it ended up freaking amazing.

I started with about a quart of chicken stock, made with Better than Bouillon (good stuff). About three tablespoons of butter, then five medium sized Yukon Gold potatoes, chopped to 1/2 - 3/4". Half of a large yellow onion, coarsely chopped. Four cloves of garlic, finely minced. Salt and pepper and 1/4 tsp of dill weed. Cooked for about 30 minutes. Thickening it was easy - just stir vigorously to beat up the potatoes a little. So simple, so delicious.

I wonder why I don't see potato bread anywhere anymore? it has been a long while since I've eaten some.

I see it all the time here. The loaves are rather small though.

I personally prefer egg bread, though.

:)

The the humble Potato is a really great food crop, as:

It can be grown in wide range of climates.
Can be prepared in many ways.
Provide the largest amount of food per acre and inputs.
One of the best stables known.
Has a very large variety of cultivars.

It really should be considered the most important food crop ever.

I like them pretty much every which way:

Home fries (w/ onions, peppers optional)
In stews (just ate a beef stew w/ all kinds of stuff in it!)
Mashed
Hash browns
French fries
Even chips, although I don't buy them, not healthy enough

As veges go, potatoes are not high on the health scale, probably not enough fiber for the starch content.

It's said you should eat only organic potatoes, BTW.
